Is the audience really so stupid?

I can't blame them for having an enjoyable experience. I've mentioned this in the Watchmen thread. A kid in my class liked Slumdog Millionare so... I thin it could go both ways.

Maybe it's not the thinking, but the tone or how the film makes them feel from instinct. They pick out what works for them specifically.

And lastly, I've noticed that intelligent and unique shows(one Pushing Daisies comes to mind among many others) seem to be ignored in favor of things like Family Guy or South Park.

These are only a few examples of many more, but I will not bore you with others to make the following point: It seems that the broader audience can't seem to handle thinking. Anything that requires you to pay attention or accept something new, seemingly scares them!
On top of that, we're treated as stupid as the masses seemingly act. Why -are- things dumbed down? Why do we promote the simplistic? With so much technology and availability of products, merchandise, transportation, food, etc...Shouldn't we have ridiculous time on our hands?

And I don't think all of that accumulated free time is going to twitter, myspace or Facebook.

What do you think?

Pretty much....the simplistic is easy and yields postive results (20 plus million viewers a week for American Idol as an example)...no one wants to get invested in anything these days....

That's how I see it as well.

but the general publlic has always been stupid. I mean, they types of people who belong to that group are probably not the most observant people around.

I was watching the Watchmen last night I I felt in many ways it was more an example of how they dumb things down for the general public. It tended to be more action movie with a simple plot rather then a character driven story like the graphic novel. It was more about waiting for the next big gore moment then getting ya to actually think about the story.

Watchmen was definitely not an intelligent film. It was much more like a nerd doing a Vito Corleone impression.

Marlon Brando? Genius.

Nerd? Dumb.
100% agree. Just because the graphic novel is an excelent piece of work, it does not mean it HAS to be made into a film.

I would have to agree with everyone here. It isn't just as simple as stupid people. It goes much deeper. I think it has more to do with laziness than anything.

Everybody is fed up with crappy comic book films.

well when the people in charge aren't fans or even aware of the source material....that's what you get
Sorry. I meant films that are based on comic books. Even when is fed up with them. They suck. Comics are a bad source material.

Wait, you entered a place called SuperheroHype and you don't like comics?

in this topic, if you have different taste then you're dumb

great.

Whomever expected Watchmen to be a box office hit clearly overestimates the GA.

Action, explosions, and cheesy dialogue is what they thrive on.

I still say to this day that the main reason TDK did so well at the BO is because of Heaht's death. Had he not died I gurantee it wouldn't have made as much as it did. In addition, if you ask someone from GA what they thought of TDK, his/her answers will 9 times out of 10 be something like this....

"OMG it was teh best movie ever!!!!"

"OMG ya The Joker was awsome in that movie, and Heath was amazing!!!"

"That part where the Truck flipped over and the Magic Trick was insane man"

This is why Wolverine will make a lot of money :(

 You say that like Wolverines true origin is Shakespearian and the film version has been dumbed down.

every genre has its flotsam.....but when stuff like 'Disaster Movie' and 'Step Up2' get greenlighted it makes me cry on the inside
