Is the Rock a certified draw yet?

what happend to him being in spy hunter movie? I hadn't heard anything about it for a while. I heard that the rock was going to play in it.

It's gone through a bunch of different writers and directors, but Universal hasn't been satisfied with any of them so far. A couple months ago they gave it to Paul W.S. Anderson to try since he has so much success with his video game movies, I guess we'll see if that works. I'm not sure if Rock will remain attached but at least his involvement with the franchise brought us this if nothing else.

The Rock just needs his defining role. I'm hoping that it's Southland Tales. With that said, he is definitely a good and very credible actor.

And with the Spy Hunter film, The Rock already dropped out of it. It's been in limbo for too long, and he wanted out. I am sure that John Woo dropped out of it, as well, and in development hell, it will stay.

I like the Rock, but he isn't a certified draw to the masses. Only a small section of fans at most. Only 1 of his films has passed $100 Million domestic and that was Mummy Returns, he wasn't the draw there.

We don't know what the f*** it's about. That's what is either going to make or break the gross for this film. Personally, I think I will enjoy it better knowing nothing about it.

i love the rock as an actor. i think he just hasnt had that "ONE ROLE" that defines him
even though he was the funniest guy in Be Cool and his new football movie looks like a cute family movie

Vince Vaughn and The Rock were the only highlights of Be Cool.

He's a draw. Definitely. And he's a likeable dude completely willing to make fun of himself.

Although Rock did really impress my in Southland trailer, I still doubt it will be successful, even criticaly.

He is starting to become the Hulk Hogan of movies now.

waitaminnit...

I don't see him winning an award anytime soon...

Bruce Willis hasn't won anything and no one will argue how much ass that man has kicked in his career

Will Smith hasn't won anything ether (been nominated twice)

and as a matter of fact Dicaprio, and Damon have never won any acting award at least from the academy

I never asked do you think he will be a academy award winning actor (cause the best actors don't always win the awards anyways) I just asked is he an A lister, is he a big enough draw for people to go see a movie just cause he is in it

Nope .... not even close.

Outside the US he is nothing more than a Wrestler who started acting.

It takes YEARS of serious success and hard work to even get close to a point where people will see a movie simply because a certain actor is in it.

Depp is A list .... Thats an example.

In response to the original question of the thread, I dont think the Rock is there just yet, before I go any further I love his movies, I find him to be a good actor and he creates a compelling onscreen performance.

So why do I say no, the only competition for him this weekend was the Kingdom a rated R movie. Typically R is going to do less than anything below it mainly because often times families wont go to an R rated movie, parent will choose something tamer for their kids. This was a win by default cause there was no real competition in the same rating.

Give it another successful movie or two for him and I think that yes, his name alone will draw people into the theatres.

The Rock does have range, but people will always see him as The Rock. Be Cool was his first time actually acting different.
