Although escaping to northern and midwestern cities did bring an end to the most overt forms of Jim Crow for southern blacks, the North was not a "promised land," one completely free of racial strife. Many white city dwellers bitterly resented the influx of blacks, and violent race riots erupted all over the nation from 1890 to 1945. Major ones occurred in East St. Louis, Houston, Chicago, and Tulsa in the years 1917 through 1921. In nearly every case black people defended themselves and their families against roving mobs of white racists.

I mean you realize FDR's favorite movie was Birth of a Nation right...OMG...you really don't think the North was just as bad...they probably worse, because at least the South admitted they were racist...I mean c'mon the largest concentration of KKK was Ohio...they ran most of the sheriffs offices.

I mean the north was like a friggin bear trap. They were like "yeah come here you'll be free"...CHOMP!. Next thing you know you were lynched for looking at the new england woman the wrong way....It was just as bad up there, they just did not have slavery...but they beat the crap out of you anyways.

How exactly do you justify a position that a nation who based itself on slavery, the 3/5th comprimise, Indian genocide, subjugation of women, a justice system that did not notify you of your rights or provide you a lawyer, with no public education, medical care, and was fully cut off from the world hasn't tended to progress.

What is the point of a government IF THERE NOT DOING THESE THINGS. These are things that we create a government for, not things we should thank the government for doing.

What if the government made healthcare that costs only 5$ to you. You in turn say you dont want it and medicate yourself. They BAN the act of you self medicating forcing you to use there healthcare system. Does this not happen in our society now? Is this practice right?

Self-medicating...what are you going to give yourself open heart surgury...you do realize you can walk into an emergency room and not pay right, you realize that the Hospitals pay for you if you cannot pay...thats why medicaid is so expensive...and you also realize we aren't exacting shooting people who run over the border to Canada...and you realize we have the best medical care system in the world, also the most expensive (FOR THE GOVERNMENT)....and we don't even outlaw self medicating, in fact herbal medicine sales have been rising in the past few years.

Usually only government funded hospitals will give you free care but you would be required to fill out all types of paper work to prove you cannot pay. Some private hospitals will turn you away if you cannot pay or if you went to the ER they would do as little as possible to keep you alive and then send you on your way. But most are willing to set you up on a payment plan that will last for the rest of your life just for one visit.

Well they can do that but if you refuse to pay after the treatment there is not much they can do about it...its why Medicaid is so expensive for the Government....they can turn you away, private Doctors mostly, but its somewhat rare since they get money either way.

You can be sent to collections for not paying bills, but people who have no money probably don't care about that. And they don't do background checks when you go into an ER.

Indeed they did. But not all of us have the benefit of being able to live through historic events and comment on them years later. Thats why people write books. Reading something doesn't invalidate ones understanding of the event,even though one wasnt present.
