Is the USA a pseudo-fascist state? (Police constantly abusing people)

I figure that if we make it off earth and have a space faring civilization then it'll be more like Star Wars than Star Trek. Things will continue like they are just more high tech. People are people Alex, I doubt there will ever be a time when there's no war or conflict even if we do get all the Star Trek tech, replicators and what not.

You made me want to watch Star Trek... which is available on Netflix. :yay:

Oh I get it...You must think of me as a coward and a wuss.:o
That's OK though. :) No offense taken.
No...I don't think of you as a wuss or coward, Alex. Please forgive me if it seems that way. I just think you have a simplistic view of things...and that's not necessarily bad. :yay:

I figured it was something like that but I also thought it might have been a mispost to the lounge.

I don't think the concept of money holds any value, when you can travel interstellar, through highly advanced technology. Hell, even today, does NASA think about building a space ATM for the astronauts or banks in the Moon and Mars in future missions? I don't think so.

The thing with the military is that you sign up for it. You chose it. The vets from WWI and WWII had to go. They didn't have a choice. I respect those vets because they were forced to die for their country. Not that I don't respect the vets of today, but I'm not about to put a "if you don't stand behind our troops, feel free to stand in front of them" sticker on my bumper.

I just don't like having to follow rules without question. It's dangerous. Especially when there's a gun in your hand. With one of the largest militaries in the world, the government could create a fascist state by turning the military on its own citizens. Will it? Hard to say. But the events in Boston after the bombings should raise a bit of a red flag. There are videos of the police forcing people from their homes, hands held in the air, and with terrified looks on their faces. All in the name of "security."

No reason to apologise. As I said, no offense taken.

There will always be a need for goods and services and payment in kind for it. After all much of our fiction has interplanetary/interstellar money such as Credits or the like with it being considered a general currency until you hit a planet at which time you convert it to whatever the local currency is.

I don't imagine that you'd have a society for very long that didn't develop some sort of barter or currency system.

That's complete la la land fantasy.

And it sounds boring too! A life without work? Boo! Make love all the time? Not physically possible. Partying? What for? Why are we celebrating? Because someone found a rock (or asteroid) shaped like General Zod's butt?

I don't wanna live in a society like that.

Do you really think it is in the government's interest to beat once and for all "terrorism"? Do you have any idea how many industries the "war on terror" fuels and the income it generates as a result?
I wonder after the wars in Afghanistan, in Iraq, with Bin Laden dead, Sadam is also dead, why are we still worrying about those kind of things anymore? What was accomplished after all this mess? I am sorry but there is more to it, than just some crazed muslim teens planting bombs and yelling Allah. That's just how it is. The evidence is overwhelming by a great number of military insiders that are deep involved and choose to speak the truth.

While the war may benefit some industries, isn't the US government in massive debt as a result of war?

"It sounds boring" lololololol
Whatever you say dude, whatever you say.

Idealists never understand reality.

I would love a life without work. Bring it! I could do absolutely nothing until the end of time or at least until they found my shriveled corpse clutching a remote control.

Yeah but that's the point. The government might be in debt, but the war industries are in charge and if they want to earn billions, they will give birth to a new conflict, regardless of what the public or the government has to say. That's why almost in every country, more funding goes to weapons and war industries instead of improving medical health and education.

lol, so in a world where we wouldn't have to work in order to enjoy life, all we would do is sit all day in front of a TV holding a remote control..?
My God, don't you have any interests or hobbies except working and watching TV? What the hell?

Ironically you seem to spend a lot of time debating this on the internet. :cwink:

You would be the idealist. In an ideal world you wouldn't have all those things you don't like but the reality is it will never, ever be the way you want it.

Is this proven?

A tad judgmental, yeah? That statement was about 40% joking.

And it's not like we'll ever live a society like that anyways. So, just don't worry about what I'll do with my make-believe time.

It's hard to meet new people and make friends without a job. I know all about that...

Yeah, I spend a lot of time debating this because almost every sociopolitical thread I get involved in here calls for it. It all comes down to this eventually.

I am not talking about an "ideal" world. You interpret it that way. I am just a logical person who points out objective facts about where we are currently and where we are heading. Nothing more, nothing less.
There can never be an "ideal" world or Utopia. Just a better one, that is constantly evolving and going through changes.

Detective: "It looks like this lady was murdered!:wow:"

Policeman: "Are you sure? How do you know?"

Detective: "I don't. Maybe I should change hobby."

Policeman: "Man, what the hell happened to the world..."
