is this a first pic of le chiffre?

I find it ironic that some complaint about Le Chiffre having some bizarre physical traits (like most of the Bond villains, and probably all the novel Bond villains) and nobody ever complained that they always cast stunning women as Bond girls. It's a cliché too! But it is a cliché that works properly in the Bond universe.

I actually don't find Vesper to be that attractive. I was actually a bit dissapointed in the casting, and I still am?

But when you bring up, why does the woman have to be beautiful is sort of saying, why is Bond handsome. It's obvious. You don't want some middle-aged, fat, drunk running around and eating doughnuts.

i think the beautiful woman thing is different though

beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and there are some out there who might find some bond girls undeserving of the title, or rate others higher than certain ones

however, with ugliness/deformities its a more universal definition...plus with the bond girls the BAD ones were hot too, not just the good ones. with the bond baddies who are men, you can bet that they won't be as handsome (especially when you have a james bond in your movie)

on the other hand, i like things like scaramanga's 3rd nipple, as it was more subtle and not in your face like largo's eyepatch

Well, yes, beauty is more subjective, of course, but it's a sine qua non requirement that the Bond girl should be considered at least very beautiful. Ugliness/deformity is just as much a condition to be considered a Bond villain, for most of the cases anyway (they are a few exceptions, but that,s what they are, exceptions). It isn't very subtle, but that's the way it is and has been since Fleming started writing Casino Royale.

There are reasons why the villains are physically bizarre. It is simplistic and manichean, but there are reasons. And Bond's universe is a manichean one, so...

There's more to his eyes than just a scar. He cries tears of blood, including while at the poker table. Very bone-chilling indeed.

So, in other words, emo kids will envy ole' Chiffre, huh? :o

Here's a better picture...

Much better, IMO, than this...

He looks really pasty and just weird in the second one, but in the first, he's very menacing.

I prefer the second one...He looks more inhuman and a bit fish-like.

well what disfiguration did he have in the book?
