BvS It's always Darkest before The Dawn... Chris Terrio IS the Script Writer

Some of the reactions to the dialogue in Man of Steel is beyond absurd. Were there some bad lines? Yes. Does every movie have bad lines? Yes.

I honestly think the dialogue in The Dark Knight is the worst out of the three Nolan Batfilms (and worse than MOS) but people act like Jonah Nolan is the God of Dialogue or something and any bad lines in that film were squarely the the fault of the actors.

I'm basing it more on his empty headed, whimsical Avengers fluff.

Well, maybe I'm just being overly sensitive, but I'd advise that you familiarise yourself with more material than just the one film if you're going to be passing judgement on the things that 'obsess' any given individual.

:whatever:

"Nice coat"
"Excuse me"
"Do you drive stick?"
"Take a seat, have a drink."
"Yesssss"

Nit picks sure, but nothing is near that bad in either TDK, or TDKR. That was all Goyer, and while not scene killers ... I still to this day don't understand why Nolan didn't axe those lines. They weren't organic moments of true levity from the weight of the darkness in the material either. Which worked quite well from other characters in TDK, and TDKR.

In MOS, there is definitely some worse examples, but it doesn't ruin the film. There is a corny line or two in every comic book movie.

"You feel that Zod ... I learned to hone my powers, now you're getting everything ... and it hurts ... doesn't it?!"

So forced, and completely unnatural comic booky dialogue.

That's the first I've heard anyone complain about the "hone my powers" line, seriously, I thought that line was fine. Was it comic booky? Yeah I guess, but... it's a comic book movie.

It's better to me than "You're gonna be in a padded cell forever!" or "This city just showed you that it's filled with people who believe in good." Those are comic booky lines too, but I find them much cheesier.

Sounds like you're attempting to be contrarian to a universally acclaimed film. Like I said, there are suspect moments of dialogue in every comic book film. Bale is easily a far superior actor than Cavill, so it's all in the execution. I bought those lines more so than Cavill. Even with his out of breathe ... I just laid waste to 2 SWAT teams Bat growl. Point is you literally said TDK was the worst dialogue of TDK trilogy. And that in itself is laughable.

I think all three of the Nolan Batman movies had some bad dialogue in it.

I think all comic book movies have moments of corny dialogue. Avengers, TWS, ASM films, all of the Raimi films are PURE Kraft cheddar cheese through and through. I could find moments of bad dialogue in all of them. If it becomes a trend, it's bad. Jarring. Actually B89 didn't really have any corny dialogue besides Batman's letter to Gotham.

This and "No, I came back to stop you" were the worst Batman's lines in the trilogy. I still cringe every time I hear them.

All comic book films sound like a bucket of cheese.

Shakespeare did not write any draft. Oh lawd.

I never got to overhear a bucket of cheese. I had a heated discussion with a cheddar once, though.

Well, like many have said, all CBM have some cheesy dialogue. However, the reason I see Jonah as having a really positive impact on the writing of TDKT is the amount of actually really good, memorable and quotable lines went up tenfold with the two sequels. Even the talky speeches, there's this literary quality to it that brings this grander feel to the proceedings. Dialogue in any movie, never mind a big budget superhero blockbuster isn't meant to sound like every day talk, unless you're making a Kevin Smith or Judd Apatow movie.

"You thought we could be decent men...in an indecent time". Stuff like that. I'm sure someone will say that's a bad line now, but BS, that's a gem.

End of the day though, we don't know who wrote what as Chris had his hands in all the scripts and did his own rewrites. But Jonathan Nolan is a very good writer, hands down. It helped that he had great outlines to work from, but those little moments of genius like the Joker's pencil trick- all him. When it comes to taking a screenplay to the next level, the devil is in the details. And that's hopefully what Terrio will bring to this project.

So many lines in Man of Steel were terrible. I'm glad that Goyer is no longer writing the screenplay.
If that's the case there also in Avengers (even worst.. 10% of a time? :lmao:), TDKT, The Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy, and I can continue... You know that they are CBM, right not The GodFather :whatever:

Are you sure those are Goyers and not Nolans? besides you know that TDKR screenplay was from Nolan Brothers right, or did Goyer also made the fake Thalia AlGhul dead scene?

I mean some pretend they're the coolest guys of the world and pretend to knowledge all the great things, but for me they just come worst with their way of thinking. I'd question.. do they know that DEPENDING ON THE AREA YOU ARE, YOU HAVE DIFFERENT PHRASES AND WORDS THAT SOME COULD CONSIDER oldfashioned or informal right?

I mean for example young Pete words, He's from Smallville not from the suburbs of England... SOME JUST DON'T KNOW WHAT IS BROAD CULTURE.. not everyone speak the same "language" even if they are from the same country... That's a fact.

Considering some other were praised ones that contained worst...yes I completely agree with ya :funny: Hyperbole at his max.

That's the thing... what makes it for you or me doesn't for others... just as some MOS, TDKT or other CBM's lines... but that doesn't mean we can generalize as bad or good that's odd and SILLY.... you can say is not from your taste however.

Seriously... If you guys have that criteria and critizice something little and make it so bigger... CBM are not your way to go... Go and look for something else... That's beyond nonsensical to make scrutiny of every line and I feel you don't enjoy a single movie... WELL LET US PEOPLE WHO LIKE THIS GENRE, ENJOY IT!! Geez...

This is not Goyer, Nolans, TDKT, Avengers or MOS THREAD!!!

THIS IS CHRIS TERRIOS THREAD, GET YOUR WHINING TO ANOTHER PART!

Man of Steel is a bad movie for some people. Yes.

Can we just get over this?

We will once those who hate the movie stop bloody talking about it, which we all know will never happen.

I agree completely but I'm not the typical moviewatcher. I just really liked MOS and as such am a little hesitant about Terrio. he could be fine but I don't know. Perfectly good director's and screenwriters have completely crapped out on genres they're unfamiliar with before.

I didn't say TDK was the worst MOVIE in the trilogy. And I don't necessarily think the dialogue overall is bad. I was just pointing out that out of all those films, and MOS since its the film we were originally talking about, TDK had the most lines that bugged me. And that's really what this boils down to, isn't it? A few lines here and there that rub people the wrong way (or make them CRINGE because apparently everyone here recoils in horror at the movie theater and exclaims at the top of his/her lungs, "CAN'T THEY SEE HOW BAD THE DIALOGUE IS?!" every single time a bad line is uttered onscreen).

This and "No, I came back to stop you" were the worst Batman's lines in the trilogy. I still cringe every time I hear them.

Yeah, that one was bad. I couldn't believe that's all they had him say at such a powerful moment in the film. Though I think they made up for it a little while later when he repeats Bane's "permission to die" line. To be fair, I also think that they could have given Superman something better to say in a similar moment in MOS than, "You're a monster Zod, and I'm gonna stop you." It's really not that the line is bad, it's just that it could have been so much better if Goyer put a little more thought into it.

Yeah, I like Terrio but he's only written one movie at this point. Granted, it was a really, really good one and it proved that he can balance a large cast and a fairly complex story, but it's still only one movie. But I have faith that the combination of Goyer's big story ideas and Terrio's dialogue and understanding of character scenes can create something amazing. I hope so, anyway.

Actually that was blade one:yay:

I do find this line perfectly frames the issue upon us. Imo, that's a 'great line', for the film itself is not that far removed from 90's Snipes glory and what's more, just who is this character apart from a deranged angry sheltered and quippy monster. There are other thing he could have said when vanquishing the villain, more natural everyday logical things but then again, whose to say that would have been 'better'. This isn't some documentary but rather a fun adaptation of decades old serial pop.

Everytime people get into the discussion of 'how people are supposed to talk' it comes off as self centered imo. What's more, it often ignores the intent of said films. Arnold has some of 'the best' and most memorable lines in his film genre's history. Hardly natural intelligent stuff there.

just saying.

As for the old you are a monster and I'm going to stop you. I find very much in the classic superman vain. Corny, unassuming an good old boyish, not quite the Tony Stark approach.

One day, Goyer is going to make a film about his life as a struggling, misunderstood writer and producer, who's trying to make an honest living while being constantly mocked by the online community.

Stanley Tucci will play him.

and the movie will start off with him in high school being called a dicksplash and getting teased for never getting laid.

And boy will he show them some day... he'll show all of them.

I honestly thought I was the only one who saw this uncanny resemblance. There's always a split second of me confusing the two, which doesn't happen very often with other actors.

Toss glasses on one of them, and folks will start to question if they are same person ala the flawed superman disguise.
