Holy **** I'm ten minutes in and literally just now realized it's a Birdman episode. Oh my Jeebus this is amazing.

Unless the guys saw Birdman way way way before it hit, I really don't think it was an intentional riff on that movie. The times just don't match up.

Yes that was a 13 min long single shot. It was done 6 mos before Birdman. BUT 6 mos after TrueDetective. And 60 YEARS after Touch of Evil.

another great episode

Charlie was downright hilarious. he's much smarter than he leads on. and everyone like always crapping all over Dee :woot:

But still, there's more than just the tracking shot and the music that is making this feel like Birdman. Charlie's manic behavior, that frantic, break neck pace Frank even mentions. Also, I'm not sure but I could have sworn I heard them drop a couple lines from the movie.

i think this is just one big coincidence with the whole Birdman thing

either way, it was awesome

Yea, honestly, who cares? I still think its way too big of a coincidence. If it was just the tracking shots and music I could accept it but it was more than that.

The music made me think it was definitely intentional but if Rob says it's not...

Anyway, good episode.

the music may have been added later in post production to definitely give it a Birdman feel. but the episode itself was filmed way before Birdman was released.

if anything, i think it was more of an homage to True Detective. hell, even Dennis was throwing in Mathew McConaughey's signature "alright, alright, alright" phrase in a few scenes

Great episode. Was that an actual 13 minute shot? There were a few times like Charlie leaving Paddys and him where the inspector going into the basement that I thought they cut with the darkness

Great episode even without that

OK yea, with the "alright, alright, alright" it makes more sense now.

I seriously hope it isn't. At one time, I would have thought otherwise but they have more than proven that they still have it in them.

They keep cranking out quality stuff, it's pretty dang impressive. I hope that we see a movie from them at some point.

This season has been great so far. 10 years and this show is stronger than ever.

I have not seen Birdman nor do I know what the reference to it is but the episode was very good and very impressive how Charlie did that.

Charlie Work is definitely a top 5 episode. Absolutely ****ing brilliant.

I can't believe how strong this show is in the 10th. So good.

Charlie's Work was a fantastic episode. I wouldn't be surprised if it was nominated for an Emmy. Everyone worked their asses off, actors, crew, vfx artists. Great episode.

One thing though, did i miss something? Why was Dennis so sickly looking/acting by the end of the episode?

I think it was because he was exhausted from moving the chickens around, and needing to run back behind the bar.

Charlie Work was fantastic, but my favorite episode of the season is probably the Bunchers/Raters episode. I love the episodes that reveal just how depraved and twisted Dennis really is.

And to think, we're not even half way through the season yet.

that entire "cream pie" convo between Charlie, Mac & Dennis at the restaurant had me in tears...hahaha
