The Naked Fun in The Superhero Cinematic Civil War Thread - Part 61

This one makes more sense. Especially given Mr Negative is a villain. He brings out Savage Hulk in Banner, we have an action set piece similar to Widow running from Banner with Punisher and Spider-Man having to figure out how to stop him, etc. I can see this clearly and it's fun

I think Mr Fixit makes more sense. But we will see.

The street level aspect is the only thing that I think disqualifies Mayday, but yeah Sink definitely has to be either Gwen or Firestar.

Spidey has to atleast have one of his Amazing Friends in here. :o

There's also Carly Cooper, who is also a red head.

It's strangely peaceful to no longer care about Marvel right now. There are exactly two DC scoopers worth listening to so muting everyone else is very easy. Marvel fans have much murkier waters ahead.

(cries in X-fan)

I finally sat down and watch MoM.

I liked America. She needed to team up with Kamala immediately. Raimi certainly tried his best.

And Sith, I just finished Final Destination Bloodlines and WHY DIDNT YOU TELL ME it was good?!

“Jerry Fenbury?! IS THAT WHY HE ALWAYS WANTED TO PLAY CATCH?!” :lmao:

That movie was so entertaining. But I digress.

[waves at Final Destination thread]

Fun fact, that line apparently was improved by the actor.

Anyway, I expect all you Minus One fans to show up for Shin Godzilla here in 2 weeks.

I'm still nervous and excited about the Minus One Sequel.

Part of me feels like it's unnecessary, but the other wants more.

Yeah Minus One is a PERFECT movie in my book. As much as I want to see the story continue and spend more time with those characters, I worry that any sequel won’t be able to capture the soul of the original.

That said, I know it will be a million times better than whatever Monarch/Monsterverse nonsense WB puts out soon (and I’ll still watch that because I’m stupid) so I’ll be there for Minus One part 2 on day one.

Oh wow, Bloodlines is on HBO Max already? I gotta start my Final Destination marathon soon. Still haven't seen any of them outside of a compilation of the deaths from the first five. :o

My first thought was that Tom is finally starting to age. :o

The suit looks great. It's pretty much the final swing suit from NWH but with deeper colors reminiscent of the Raimi and TASM2 suits.

Just realized that this will be the very first Spider-Man movie without Aunt May(unless she appears in flashbacks or through ghostly hallucinations, that is). It’s going to feel a bit weird not having May alive in a Spider-Man film — a little like not having Alfred in a Batman movie, in way, but at the same time it’s also pretty exciting since it’s uncharted territory we haven’t explored before, at least not on film anyway.

I like the idea of exploring a Peter Parker who is all by his lonesome, utterly consumed by his alter ego because of the tragedies that has befallen him and the sacrifices he’s made.

This is rumored to be darker than the Homecoming trilogy which would make sense given how NWH left things with the character and I’m really liking the idea of throwing The Punisher into mix. Not so much big on the idea of having Banner involved but we’ll see how that goes.

At the very least I have a Marvel movie to be actually anticipating next year. Which I can’t say same for that other movie coming out where they’ll be wasting a gazillion dollars for a gimmicky stunt casting.

Perhaps the greatest “What If” for me in the MCU is still The First Avenger (only the Marvels comes close). A moive that for about an hour is a fine throwback to the adventure flicks of my father’s youth, invoking all I love about Indy and the Rocketeer. Then the montage starts, signaling the cinematic universe’s slavish devotion to the next product as opposed to the story you’re suppose to be experiencing in that moment. The last half of TFA isn’t terrible. It has some real class moments, but the film it could’ve been will always be lost.

The Fantastic Four skips the pretense and starts with montage. Starving it's rather strong cast of material. It too has it’s moments. The Interstellar rip off is a really fun sequence. It even implies some interesting questions, like is Reed a statistic based psychopath, how ruthless is Sue, is Johnny the least attractive hot guy in a movie since Poldark Hobbit hit on the anti-vax elf? But none of the questions are ever actually asked, much less explored. It’s a movie barreling forward with implications of characters, story, and whismy in a shiny package echoing much better movies. Ben’s usual arc is completely disregard making him no more then a passanger. Same for Johnny. Same for the Surfer. Same for planet Earth. I don’t think anything emphasizes this more then the title reveal at the beginning of the film being a blink or you miss it moment.

I’m not the biggest Galactus guy, but after 20 years of hearing about how dirty Fox did him I have to ask, is this what I was missing out on? A sort of big, but not all that big, guy, who just walks around kaiju style like the worst of the Doctor Who finales? That’s cosmic horror? That’s one of the greatest villains of all time?

Superman annoys me on a cellular level. F4? It doesn’t even bother. Superman is more of a movie then F4, but both are products whose #1 job is sell you what’s next. It’s so ironic that it was the sixth sequel in a franchise that has exactly one good movie that felt focused on that task at hand. God, The Batman Part II feels so far away right now.

We don’t get the actuals till Monday. So…
It's not going to do much better then 40m, if it even gets to 40m. It's playing out like a very typical MCU flick these days. No real GA engagement. That it has all the PLF still and no real second weekend comp emphasizes that.

I think the Fantastic Four movie would've been a bigger deal if

1. Marvel hadn't already gave us a fan favorite casting for Reed Richards in another MCU movie, only to kill him off in the dumbest manner imaginable, and...

2. Gave us a more exciting movie rather then just remaking Rise Of The Silver Surfer.
