Comedy It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia - Part 2

Anyone planning on checking out Kaitlin's new show The Mick? Everyone is great in Sunny so it will be interesting to see if she can carry a show on her own.

I think she's talented to lead her own project...I just don't think The Mick will be any good

I'll give it a look. I don't know if it will be any good or not though.

I thought the trailer they just put out looked great. Mind you, it's not just her, it's two of IASIP's writers and a frequent director too.

Any word on when season 11 is coming to netflix? I hate always being a season behind.

I didn't know that. Some of the previews look funny and that gives me a little more hope.

Kaitlin Olson's new show starts tonight. 8 PM.

Back tonight. Think I just saw that Scott Bakula is guest starring.

That was instantly one of my favorite episodes. How can shows like this and Community do musicals so much better than the travesty that was Glee?

And Charlie pulling something out of his pocket, while Black, and getting shot? He didn't see that coming?

Not bad, though I do wish they played the concept as just a straight episode of It's Always Sunny, rather than making it musical as well. Though I guess that tracks with the whole thing just being a dream.

Old black man was the last person I expected them to bring back.

Not a fan of musicals usually. I didn't find the songs TOO funny. But the concept was brilliant. Them being aware they were in a musical made the songs funny because the "gang" has no control over it.

"Here I go"

"Shhhh***" that was super weird"

"lets talk fast before another song starts"

"Oh Christ I'm singing again"

I thought it was great but the fans on FB are friggin' trashing it to hell.

I mean, I didn't love the episode but it wasn't a total stinker. They could have gone bigger with the musical concept but there were some good gags in there.

I'm glad I watched season 11 on Netflix the day of, otherwise I wouldn't have remembered Old Black Man from the suburbs episode. Anyway, I loved the episode.

I think the musical aspect was needed. I don't think this concept could've worked with spoken words. I think it would've gotten so dark that it would ultimately undermine the comedy and the underlying social commentary. Imagine watching the child get shot and the gang screaming in terror, as would be the response in spoken dialogue based on their body language in the scene, crying to go home as Charlie squirms on the ground dying. It would've been dark to the point of gratuitious. By adopting the musical format, allowing for the gang to address anything that happened with an upbeat, fast, catchy melody, the writers were able to simultaneously alleviate the viewer of the intensity of the dark social ill that the episode seeks to address and intensify the underlying message. The music lulls the viewer into a false sense of security, which makes the punch of that final song, of seeing the police shoot Charlie and it flashes to the little boy being shot, hit all the more hard and really drive the episode's message home.

Personally, I loved the episode. It may not be the funniest episode or the best episode (though I found it to be tremendous) but it was the smartest episode. It was easily the most sophisticated social commentary that Sunny has ever done. It is quite rare to see a show remain this smart and pump out it's smartest episode in its twelfth season while also remaining funny. This show has done it.

Not the funniest episode but definitely entertaining and I liked the musical concept of it. Love the social commentary throughout the episode. Bet that definitely triggered some people out there lol

Thoroughly enjoyed the premirere.

I liked it. The musical aspect fits with the social commentary and it was aptly able to avoid being blackface or racist in a way that was offensive although I am sure there are those who will disagree with that opinion.

It reminds me of that Twilight Zone movie segment where the racist white man becomes various minorities to learn a lesson on what it truly means to be a minority against that kind of oppression. Only the gang does it in a more light-hearted and less traumatic way using modern times.

I thought it was great. I don't like many musicals but it was done well by not being a full out musical and it did help with the overall tone of the show. Scott Bacula was awesome and the whole thing really made me laugh.

As for Kaitlin's show the Mick, not so much. I watched the first ep and that will probably be it for me. It had a few laughs and could of been funny if it wasn't so cliche and been done to death. After the first five minutes you already feel like you have seen this a million times before.

Hated the musical... but this weeks totally made up for it. Laughed my ass off.

I knew an episode about the gang going to a water park wouldn't disappoint. The Dennis storyline was great, but Frank going down the slide and the aftermath had me in tears. :lmao:

yea the aids blood was killer... but the ****ing Dennis story was so perfect.
