It's his last name! The Benedict Wong as Wong Thread.

A few choices:

Daniel Dae Kim

Daniel Henney

Daniel dae Kim might have an intriguing level of chemistry with benedict. I just hope he doesn't call him master or anything like that (I'm sure he won't)

I can certainly understand why they shouldn't use the word Master, but I do want some acknowledgement that Strange is a Master of the Mystic Arts. I do hope we get to know who will be playing Wong (and Clea) before the end of summer.

I think they're leaving a lot of money on the table (Asian audience money) by not casting someone younger and "hunkier" as Wong. I am thinking of Nicholas Tse (who can speak English very well to boot). Jet Li and Tony Leung are a bit too "Dad-like" for how I envision the character.

Regarding the use of "master", I've always envisioned Wong very firmly telling someone that he is "a" Master, not my master." And be done with it.

Yeah I can see that too plus there's so many kdrama actors out there, I'm sure at least some of them wouldn't mind some western exposure. As long as they have a lot of chemistry with benedict, that's the important thing

I want Ki Hong Lee for Wong. I want a younger Wong as opposed to the other choices mentioned above.

Yeah I can totally see that. Id love it if he got the role, and id love it if he joined the mcu period.

@barryallen ki hong lee is a pretty interesting choice.

What's Aaron Yoo up to these days?

Oh wow yeah that's another good idea actually

Wong is probably the last major role to cast here, and it's getting tougher and tougher. Because with every other character that's been cast, it's been a "BOOM! MIC DROP!" moment as they get a blow-your-pants off awesome actor in the mix. Benedict Cumberbatch! Chiwitel Ejiofor! Tilda Swinton! Rachel McAdams! Mads Mikkelsen! And I want Wong to be another actor who when I hear they're joining the film, I want to punch the air with joy. But I'm struggling to think of who that could be. Most of the Asian actors I know are older now, and I imagine them skewing young with Wong.

I did have one potentially left-field idea. How about Iko Uwais, star of THE RAID?

That would be a casting that would have me jumping out my seat with glee, and would prime Wong to be a major badass in the film. There only a couple of potential problems:

1. He's Indonesian, rather than Chinese, and Marvel might want to cast this part more racially accurate, particularly after casting a white actress as the Ancient One.

2. I don't know how he'll be acting in English. He attended a showing of THE RAID at a festival here in Glasgow a little over 3 years ago, and he could speak broken-but-understandable English there, enough to convey that he'd been taking lessons for the past year and was keen to become fluent. But he also had a translator on hand to help explain the more complex audience questions to him. I don't know how far he will have progressed by now.

Also, in terms of Wong's portrayal, I think he can still work for Doctor Strange without being his "Yes Master" manservant. It seems I'm constantly referring to JONATHAN STRANGE & MR NORRELL as a benchmark for how this film could be realised, but I could see Wong being portrayed as being like the Childemass to Strange's Mr. Norrell. Someone who is Strange's "servant," yes, but someone who also has his own agency and opinions and commands respect in his own right, and who acts as more of a friend and confidante (and henchman!) to Strange than just a dogsbody.

Wong was working for the ancient one long before strange came along. So i think it should be someone older. Jet Li would be perfect. Has wisdom, authority, meekness and can kick crap out of people.

Childemass type role for Wong would be a good way to go.

I'm thinking John Cho. Would be excellent as some sort of comedic touch to the cast.

Just to point out, McAdams and Mikkelsen haven't been confirmed 100% yet. So lets not jump the gun just yet. What about B.D. Wong? Yeah he's like 54, but he looks quite a bit younger (he doesn't look like he's really aged at all since Jurassic Park, and that was 22 years ago).

And if they do decide to pull and Ancient One here as well, then how about Zhang Ziyi?

The only actor that will make me jump my seat is Donnie in his Yip Man look.

And if I post this enough times maybe it'll happen :drl:

Doesn't quite fit the role though, unless they want to change it substantially. He's too "city," doesn't come off as zen enough, looks like he weighs about 90 pounds.

that's why they call it acting

has there been any confirmation that wong is even in this movie?

well Wong is to Strange what Happy/Rhodey are to Tony, Bucky/Falcon are to Cap or the Warriors Three/Sif are to Thor. So far those characters have always been included in the movies. but no, no official confirmation...yet.

I'm going to say BD Wong, for no other reason than to have a guy called Wong who played a "Doctor Strange" to play Wong in "Doctor Strange" :o

it feels way too late in the game to not have anything wong related confirmed. i'm going to go out on a limb and say he's not in the movie at all.

perhaps for a similar reason we didn't get a proper mandarin we will not get a proper wong. i hope i'm wrong.

don't be surprised if we end up getting an "amalgam" character that replaces wong.

but we got 3 different versions of the Mandarin instead of only one, so people can chose which one they like most. Do you think we will get three different Wongs as well? great. the more Wong the better. same with the Mandarin
