And so, with the new year upon us, millions of Americans are about to either subject themselves to the hassle of doing their own taxes by hand, a lesser hassle of buying tax software and doing it themselves, or they are going to pay someone to do it for them.

Which one are you?

For me, there's no way I'm going to pay someone else to do my taxes for me. And, I'll be danged if I'm going to buy software that tells me something I already 1) know or 2) know how to find out. I'll do my taxes by hand.

After all, I don't have "CPA" at the end of my name for nothing, you know. :cwink:

I hate the IRS. May a Pox be on their House.

Jman, this isn't about the FairTax, this is about the Current Tax Code.

Why do you always have to bring up the FairTax in every thread you are in? :o

I picked up a few pointers from a poster formerly known as SupermanBeyond.

I miss that guy.

I have done my over the past 10 years and have never had to pay any money to the government....

I rather put money towards my RRSP then send more of my money to the Gov.

I'm not reading any of the above posts, but since SuBe showed up in the thread I can only assume they are discussing FairTax.

You did pay the Government, you just paid them enough to get them off your back for one more year.

Do you have Income Tax Withdrawn from your Paychecks? You paid them then, it's a Falacy that if you don't owe anything more, that you didn't pay anything at all. tsk, tsk.

You mean you've never had to write a check to the IRS because your tax liability was greater than your withholding? Or, is it because your tax liability was actually $0 (and you received a full refund from the IRS)? There's a big difference betwixt the two.

I've had to pay a lot the last 2 years, hopefully this year it's corrected and I paid just enough to get some back, or even. I hate the IRS.

Well of course I am not a moron, I know I am paying taxes throughout the the year, that's why I said I don't want to pay any more taxes.

I suppose I should have been clearer and said I have never had to pay any taxes to the Government when I did my taxes but I didn't think it was necessary. People are nitpicky today.

I am from Canada..what's this I...R...S that you speak of...:woot::oldrazz:

However, between my taxes witheld during the year, combining that with my charity donations and RRSP investments I have not had to write any cheques to Revenue Canada.

My CPA is worth every penny.

HAHA, you wrote Checks with a "Q". You silly Northman! :hehe:

I use TurboTax and always do them pretty much as soon as I get the info I need, since I always get a refund.

Could you imagine not ever needing one anymore?

No more filings, not more CPAs, not more Lobbyists, no more April 15th being Deadline Day. No more IRS. :(

You'd no longer be able to carry on a conversation, either. :o

True, true. I would have to get another Schtick.

I'm just saying rehabilitation and therapy would be required before you could really function in society again.

I use TaxCut. H&R Block gave me a free copy back when I sold retail software, and I liked it.

I used to use tax preparation software. When I was singing in my blues band, however, the taxes started to become a little more complex so I found a good CPA. He saved me a couple grand more than what TurboTax was telling me my returns would be for that same year. I've used him ever since and he's always made it more than worth the $120 it costs to have my taxes prepared.
