XY also had the benefit of having five previous generations to draw from. The Hoenn dex was set up to explicitly exclude Kanto and Johto species.

im pretty sure i've run into some kanto and johto mons in AS, some are even in the hoenn pokedex, but many just show as ??? but again they get unlocked later on in the game. Plus when you beat the game they let you pick one of the johto starters, and also one of the starters from gen 4 (I think gen 4)

its your call dude, but if you like pokemon you should like this game, again if you are looking for any mons to make the experience more enjoyable just let me know, I got boxes and boxes of very well bred mons just sitting in pokebank

RSE had Gen I and II Pokemon. Half of my team in Ruby was Gen I Pokemon. You could get Heracross and Phanpy in the Safari Zone.

Just finished the Delta Episode. Pretty fun. Glad there was something post game. Didn't take into account the high levels of the Legendaries, so I got my ass whooped a bit more than I thought I would.

So I'm not nearly as far as many of you but I have seen in game mentions of Genesect, Keldeo, and Meloetta and I hope they become event pokemon for this game.

OK. I have a question for you guys. Whenever you guys start a new game & receive your Pokemon, does it matter personally if it's a male or female?

No I never cared about the gender. I can always breed with a ditto to get a different gender later on. Faster than resetting the game a dozen times.

I dont usually care unless a pokemon really needs to be male (like mr.mime for example) or really should be female (like milotic, clefable, etc) just my preferences though

It's good if you get a female since there's only a 1/8 chance of it.

Anyone any advice on a nature for the togepi line, I'm planning on using a togekiss but I can't seem to get a clear answer on nature, I've seen timid, modest and calm all said to be the best choice.

Smogon recommends Calm. The 3 major physical threats are Fighting, Ground, and Rock. Togekiss has 1/4 resistance to Fighting and immunity to Ground, so your only real fear is Rock which you can get around with Roost.

The Special Defense boost helps survive Ice and Electric attacks which are usually special. It's also weak to Steel and Poison but those won't be encountered as much.

You guys hear about that secret base Blissey EXP trick? There's a bunch of secret base QR codes floating around online that give you someones base and inside you can battle a trainer with a few lv100 Blisseys. Massive EXP yields, especially with a Lucky Egg.

Playing the new Smash with my brother this weekend made me want to see what the hubbub about Greninja is all about. It's nothing special without Protean though, right? Or is there another high point that's more easily obtained?

The hubbub of Greninja is mainly Proten which gives him STAB on every move. However, he also has an incredibly diverse movepool (which improved with access to move tutors in ORAS) that give him a lot of coverage. He actually has no checks any more since his prior ones, Azumarill and Chansey, can now be beat with Gunk Shot and Low Kick.

I trained mine as a special sweeper but it's better to build him as a mixed sweeper with Life Orb since he has such a great movepool.

Anyone have an extra Spritzee or Aromatisse they can give?

Hoopa is "officially" confirmed!

Anybody have recommendations for a Vileplume moveset? I've been using a Gloom for a majority of Omega Ruby, and I want to evolve it, but I can't settle on a good moveset.

I'd like to keep Giga Drain in there, but Petal Dance and Petal Blizzard are stronger grass attacks, even though I wouldn't get the HP drain with them.

Sludgebomb is handy to have on Vileplume. Giga Drain is worth keeping for the HP Drain. Utlility movies like Sleep Powder and the like are always handy.

Keep Giga Drain for the recovery. Forget Petal Blizzard since it's physical. I don't like Petal Dance since it locks you in for 2-3 turns and causes confusion. Outrage is the same but it's more useful as a Dragon-type move. Teach it Energy Ball or Grass Knot.

Poison type move is good for Fairys. You can do a Venoshock/Toxic combo or just teach it Sludge Bomb. A status move like Toxic, Stun Spore, or Sleep Power would be good. You can also teach it Dazzling Gleam so it has a multi-target attack.

Thanks guys. I think I'm gonna go with Giga Drain, Sludge Bomb, Sleep Powder, and probably Dazzling Gleam.

Wish Vileplume could learn a ground or rock move to cover fire types. There are probably better grass types to use, but Vileplume has always been one of my favorite Pokemon.

Cool. Wonder how and when they'll distribute it.

In Japan it'll be distributed during the next Pokémon movie, since it'll be one of the featured movie Legendaries, plus it'll probably be more akin to OR/AS since the next movie and the next "season" of the anime will tie into the OR/AS content, ad of you've played OR/AS, this would explain all these random portals and time-space wormholes all over Hoenn (Hoopa being able to generate wormholes).

Its default form will probably be transferable to X/Y while OR/AS will probably let you access it's alternate (Mega?) form.

I was watching a guy on YT do a speed run on Generation One. He was trying to beat a record, but I don't think using the emulator would count, since it moves the game at a higher pixel rate, or something like that. Anyway, he basically bulldozed through it with a Nidoking. I forgot how much of a tank that thing was.

Sounds like the way I used to do Gen 1. Get a Nidoking early and rock everyone!
