Well is great that they have started with the cast.

Can we change the title of this thread to Super 8? And get rid of the annoying Aesop-Speak?

Thanks. :o

Have to say... aside from Chandler, Fanning and Emmerich, I've never heard of any of those people.

Cameras have barely started to roll on the set of J.J. Abrams' Super 8, but the 1970's location dressing is already the subject of much discussion on the Unfiction ARG Forums where posters have uploaded images from the Weirton, WV shoot, some of which show off some of the film's nods to some other works of science fiction.

It is unknown how large a role (if any), the following references play in the final film, but they certainly seem to convey a sense of homage that Abrams seems to be after.

it's awesome.

If it is an ALIEN or a monster, I hope it looks good. Something mammal maybe, would make it fresh.

I doubt they'd make it a "monster", Something mammal wouldn't really make much sense IMO. I'm pretty sure it's going to be something alien.

No I meant the alien was more 'mammal' like than the usual xenomorphs, bugs, or reptiles.

haha. THat's cool.

I'm not saying he should be like catpeople from Pandora or a Thundercat, but something new and surreal to look at.

I've read articles pointing to JJ as the next Steven Spielberg...

Althouth the article contributed this to JJ's return to small town approach to movies and drawing us in as an equal in the stories to the characters on screen, it failed to recognize that JJ is using Steven as a source and aspiring figure for direction in what to do.

Spielberg did his own thing and that is what made him "himself" not the next "someone"

I wish that JJ would play more with the mystery in his films and not reveal so much in the film, Cloverfield was good until you saw the creature on the screen in the electronics shop. then it went from "whats going on to ahh its Godzilla redux".

also come on JJ do the big ugly creatures have to be the bad guys in the a typical "eat you and poop you out way"? Steven excels at letting us guess whats going on in close encounters. by the time they are stealing the little kid people are pretty sure those are some bad A aliens and we see nothing, nor do we need to. its all in the setup.

and they aren't even bad aliens Steven sets up to be fearful and suspicious but we make those decisions and then when he shows us that they aren't bad its easy for us to change our stance, because WE took it.

Man JJ could learn a lot from a master like the ol' Steve, but until he starts making movies to let our imaginations fill in the rest and stops telling essentially (just guessing here) the same "whats in the box, oh surprise it was something nasty and bad" movie, it unfortunately looks like we have another Roland that is in love with just repeating the same idea.

p.s. i liked star trek... more star treks JJ less Box movies.

This is probably not JJ Abrams' Super 8 alien but look anyway

Another year, another JJ Abrams monster movie, and its no surprise that "leaks" are starting to spring up around the internet, claiming to have the inside scoop on what exactly his alien(s) are going to look like in SUPER 8.
From the surely reliable IMDB user SS-Cotapaxi comes this picture along with the explanation of why it's totally legit:
"So, my friends's brother's wife works for a company that does marketing for films, video games, music, etc. Occasionally she'll get chain mails from these companies which aren't supposed to go to them. A few days ago she received a chain mail intended for production staff within Paramount."
And voila:

Well, it's certainly alien looking, I'll give it that. It actually reminds me of some of the old Cloverfield "concept art" before that movie came out. Yeah, it's not quite what we ended up seeing, but it's on the right track, and perhaps this version could be as well?

I'm hoping for something more alien-looking. That like's like some kind of reptile-fish hybrid.
