I think the media has it all wrong when it comes to speculation on this movie.

It's not about a camera.

Super 8 is a program the U.S. military invoked in with bio-genetics experts. 8 experts who were working on exo-genetic samples that were recovered from the Roswell, N.M. crash.

And also, Super 8 revolves around one man. Phil Schneider. Phil used to work at Area 51 and is responsible for building two of the main bases there.

Now back in 1979 there was a major incident that occurred there.

Could this be what they're referring too??? Maybe.

Now I usually take things with a grain of salt but I'm inclined to believe this is maybe what Abrams is basing his movie on. Not saying any of this is true, just saying that maybe this is the story Abrams is drawing his inspiration on.

One last thing about Phil. He's dead. Apparently it was suicide.

Well, 3D is still a relatively new medium with high risk and high expectation. The movie industry will have to do better than create 1 good movie with excellent 3D for every 5 bad movies with bad 3D.

It's an extremely elastic technology right now.

Yeah, and I think people hate it because it's being misused. Not the technology itself. Something like Avatar, people were amazed by the 3D. It was amazing. And I'd love to see 3D films done that way. It's not a fad. It's here to stay. I just don't think every single film should be 3D. Something like Tron or Avatar deserve to be made in 3D.

My concern with 3D is it can be a crutch for weak directors, plus on top of that I don't have any interest in seeing things coming out the screen at me or sitting with goggles on, so if the effects get to a point where they are so 3D geared that they look awful in 2D it will ruin effects movies for me.

J.J. Abrams' Super 8 to Film in Weirton, West Virginia

Production Weekly has learned that J.J. Abrams will start shooting Super 8 in late September on location in Weirton, West Virginia. Produced by Steven Spielberg, the Paramount Pictures film is targeting a summer 2011 release.

While the production is keeping the story under wraps, a few viral sites for the movie have come online this year at ScariestThingIEverSaw.com and RocketPoppeteers.com (which also has a Twitter account).

Meanwhile, reports by The Associated Press have turned up the news that Weirton residents have received letters on the filming, apparently moving forward under the fake title Darlings. The shoot, scheduled to last two to three months, is said to take place primarily on the town's Main Street. The plot, "revolves around a 14-year-old boy and is set in a steel town in 1979."

These details would seem to confirm a three month old report by /Film that suggested open calls for a J.J. Abrams project may be related to Super 8. Followups debunked the rumor, suggesting that the casting was instead for a J.J. Abrams produced remake of the 1980 film Little Darlings. Now, it's looking like the original report was accurate and that Little Darlings may be a fake production after all.

The casting sides as they originally appeared are as follows:

JOSH: Male 13-14. Josh is cute, but could be on the scrawny side – definitely not the school jock. Loveable, empathetic, smart and interesting. Must have a great sense of humor. Should have a Midwestern feel.

Neville Page Teases Super 8 Creature Design

Neville Page, the conceptual artist responsible for designs in Star Trek, Cloverfield, Piranha 3D and the upcoming TRON: Legacy, teased information to Wired about the creature design in his next big project, Super 8.

Though he's light on details, Page does reveal that he was tasked with designing the creature after the teaser trailer was created and that J.J. Abrams showed him the footage to help get him excited.

"When that door blows open," he says, "it's the ultimate reveal. It's Elvis or something."

What's more, Page hints that Abrams won't resort entirely to computer animation to bring the monster to life and that the writer/director will rely on some classic special effect work.

"I'll bet you anything there's going to be a rubber something or other at some point," says Page.
