Arrow J.R. Ramirez is Ted "Wildcat" Grant!

And the knee-jerk pessimism/moaning begins. Never change comics fans, never change.

So everyone has to love every casting announcement? I don't see anyone moaning. People are just surprised/annoyed they cast a typical CW male for the role.

Actually I think it has been rumored he will be a love interest since before comic con when it was announced Wildcat would be on the show...

Why does anyone care about his age or his being a love interest exactly? You realize more people watch the show than probably ever read JSA right? Do you think 99% of the audience cares who Ted Grant is or have any idea of his back story?
Well why even call him Wild Cat? People enjoy seeing the iconic versions of these characters realized.

They call him Wildcat because that who the character is. That he isnt exactly the same as Ted Grant from the comics only matters to a very small group of fans...and I say that as someone who collected the entire volume of JSA and the first few arcs of Justice Society when it was relaunched and considered it one of my favorite collections I have.

This is not the comics, this is a completely different continuity that is a story growing unto itself. Hell, back when his character was created he would have been the same age as Oliver and Laurel because they all started around the same time so it isnt like this is new territory.

As long as he kicks ass and chews bubblegum as a defining character trait, he's Wildcat.

Doesn't mean he'll be free from CW-mandated-stupid-romance-subplot, but it doesn't mean it'll hurt him too bad. Both Oliver and Slade had some version of that which caused people to cringe, but not flee the show. They just recognized banal subplots as such and moved on.

I will say they should probably make a note to not do anything like the initial Oliver and Laurel angle. At all.

The show always had a couple and it's fine. First season was Laurel with Tommy, when they started having problems Thea hook up with Roy, now they are not togheter anymore it will be Laurel with Ted. The love triangle will probably be Oliver Felicity and Ray Palmer. Ted hooks up with Laurel, Laurel it's the connection of him with team arrow, he gets on the main plot, simple.

Making him a bit younger is okay, but they're like the same age. I was hoping for some what of an age difference. Oh well, not a big deal I guess.

Nevermind, I see he's 7 years older. That's good enough I suppose.

Don't like this, Ted Grant is an old crotchety guy that beat Cassius Clay senseless. This is just dumb.

since everyone in the show is younger than the comic counterparts.....it that not surprising that Wildcat is younger.......

Is it too late for them to recast Wildcat?

Or, everything is as it appears and Ted Grant just isn't that old in this continuity.

Shatner would be really interesting in Arrow. I'd love to see that.

But in the comics Ted is always older than everyone else. He is a member of the JSA, the oldest group of heroes. Making him younger kinda ruins that very thing people like about this character, the crotchety badassitude. He is not supposed to be younger.

Except that isnt true. When the JSA started in the Golden Age Green Arrow and BC were similar ages to Wildcat. It wasnt until the advent of Earth 2 in the Silver Age that changed that.

You're right, I should have said prefer when he is a part of the older group of heroes, I feel he works better that way and is a richer character.

I wouldn't have expected Wildcat to be the least physically imposing guy on the show, but he kind of just looks like a normal guy

Not going to lie, I'm having a hard time with the guy playing Wildcat. He's incredibly stiff, and many of his line deliveries are cringe worthy. The last episode he was better, showing a bit of playfulness with Laurel (it was nice to see any emotion from him to be honest) but it's still rough. I wish they could have gotten a better actor.

Yeah I still wish they had gotten an older actor, just someone Laurel could've looked up as a 2nd father figure.
