This is awesome news. Also do you guys know that the legend of the monkey king and that magical pole is what inspired Akira toriyama to create Dragonball.

Damon Albarn from Blur and co Gorillaz creator Jamie Hewlett just did an opera adaption of The Monkey King Journey To The West.

Bwahaha agreed
Ugh, what a bad movie.
I think my favorite movie for 2007 so far is Hot Fuzz.

Zodiac for me... Hot Fuzz was good but the script was such a mess... You know we really should just take this to my review thread...

Jet Li Talks Forbidden Kingdom
Date: July 11, 2007

By: Ryan 'The Rican with the Irish name' McLelland
Source: AliveNotDead.com

Say it with me: Jet Li and Jackie Chan. Jet Li and Jackie Chan. Jet Li and Jackie Chan.

Are you excited yet? I've been drooling about this flick ever since Jet and Jackie finally hammered down what they wanted to star in together.

And what is that vehicle? The Forbidden Kingdom which has Michael Angarano finding a staff that launches him into ancient China where Jackie Chan plays kung-fu master Lu Yan and Jet Li as Silent Monk. Collin Chou plays a bad guy and did I mention action directing by Yuen Woo-Ping???

Honestly I don't care if Jackie and Jet are facing off against Godzilla, Jean-Claude Van Damme, and the Care Bears. The movie WILL rock.

Over on his blog Jet Li talked about some of his additions to the kung-fu adventure:

"I suggested that the movie does not have to be based strictly upon the original "Journey to the West". Everyone who is familiar with that story has their own perceptions on how that story should be represented. In the film, the story is the creation of an American kid's dream. This being the case, there are apt to be differences between these characters and those from "Journey to the West". But that's not a problem. this is a dream of this American kid's interpretation of these characters so there is a lot of room for creativity.

The producer liked my ideas. The screenwriter even flew to Hong Kong to discuss the development of the Monkey King with me. Naturally there are many differences between Chinese and Western culture and eveyrone has a different interpretation of the Monkey King character. There should be a lot of work done to create this character, but it's best to maximize the room for creativity and not base it solely on previous examples. I will put forth my best effort with this character, so I hope that everyone can understand this perspective: As this is a character based on a western kid's dream-world, this is a new representation of the Monkey King for a global audience.

To be honest, portraying the Monkey King has required a lot of courage. There have been so many successful depictions of this character in Beijing Opera, animation and TV series. For example, the Monkey King portrayed by Master Liu Xiao Ling Tong; his expressions and movements portray the character exactly as it should be from a Chinese cultural perspective. But if our interpretation of the Monkey King's character was based on the previous depictions, then it would not work in this new context.

The Monkey King in this movie is not just for Chinese audiences, nor just for Asian audiences, but for the whole world. There are many people in the world who don't know anything about the Monkey King. Therefore, as long as the character of the Monkey King is true to the world created in the dreams of the American kid in the movie, there is no right or wrong, and the room for creative diversity is enormous.

You will be able to see the movie next year, and of course I can't promise that you will or will not like it. I can only try my best, along with action director Yuen Wo-Ping and his team, to create the best Monkey King I can."

I can't wait for this movie, very awesome.

this movies gonna suck

Heh, I didn't know you saw the movie already. Care to share with us why you think this?

Today I finally “fought” with Jet Li. Although we have known each other for so many years, we have never fought with each other, but the short fight that we filmed today went very smoothly. It was as if we were brothers from the same kung fu school; every movement, punch, and kick was smooth – we could anticipate each others' moves, timing, and rhythm. I felt like I used to feel when I fought with Sammo Hung or Yuen Biao. Whether it was eye-contact, a facial expression, or a turn, we were very much in harmony and it was really terrific!

Although I hadn’t worked with our action choreographer Yuen Woo Ping in many years, all of us worked so well together that what was supposed to be a day-long filming was accomplished in just a few hours.

People always ask who would win in a fight between Jet Li and me. Since this is my diary, I will of course say that Jet Li would win ha ha ha! I always insist that you can learn something from everyone you meet no matter if he’s an unskilled laborer or a supers

Is Jackie's character supposed to be a drunken fighter?

Chan play Lu Yan, we know he's a kung fu master, but I don't know about a druken fighter. Maybe he knows drunken kung fu. :o

You know, I'm just going to say it right now....BEST MOVIE EVER.

If Jackie does A SINGLE Drunken Fist move, I'm uhh...I'm just going to trucking lose it.

Yeah, that'd be awesome. I really can't wait to see Chan and Li fight eachother.

War looks bretty good as well..I mean I know Jason Straham isn't anywher near on the level of Jackie or Jet..... but War looks pretty off da hook, and Jason plays the part pretty well

Yeah, I saw the trailer for War. I'm so going to see it.

The more I look into this production, the more potentially painful it sounds. Just having a Hollywood scriptwriter alone is the kiss of death (check out DOA: Dead or Alive, or any of John Woo's Hollywood movies), but throwing an American director into the mix, and then turning the Chinese folktale into a sideshow for a clueless gweilo exactly like the Hallmark version of this story (The Lost Empire) did...well, we'll be lucky to even get the Jet/Jackie fights unblurred and without a cut every 2 seconds. :whatever:

Also, apparently Jackie WILL be doing some Drunken Boxing

Cool find Gammy  i know they aren't in their prime and it's not a HK movie as such but i am still looking forward to this, hopefully we will get a trailer soon.

Np, friend
Yeah, I've very excited about this as well.
I know we're not getting Police Story era Jackie, or Fist of Legend era Jet Li, but it will still be awesome.
They are both feeling excellent with each other's speed and reaction, and the choreography is being done by YWP, it shall be awesome :cmad:
