Anyone see Enemy? It was so f***ing weird. Jake was great in it, though I can't wholeheartedly say I liked it. It's definitely a movie that I haven't been able to stop thinking about though.
I just watched this on Amazon a few weeks ago. I though it was great, up until the ending, which was pretty lame, IMO. That movie had so much promise.

But anyways, I'm excited about Nightcrawler. I'm planning on seeing it the week it come out.

I think on first viewing that film almost made you think you wasted your time, but the longer I think about the film and its presentation I get more and more impressed. Did you by chance get to check out this analysis/explanation of the film? A bit long, but it makes you appreciate the film if some of its themes passed you by.

Jake's been on an incredible hot streak lately, I kinda hope he never really breaks out so he can keep making movies like this. :o

He has been on a hot streak. Prisoners was an all around incredible movie.

Yeah Enemy was a misstep for them (both the director and Gyllenhaal), even though it was acted well.

As far as Enemy goes:

It was great until that ending. It turned from a psychological thriller into an art house movie out of nowhere.

The thing is for me, the physiological thriller part had a good start, but it just went nowhere and then you get the nonsense ending.

I for one did not think the ending was nonsense. I find it fascinating how we all have a different perspective to the ending.

The ending of Enemy was brilliant. Stop whining. :o

Just got back from a free screening.

Jake Gyllenhaal delivers a fantastic and chillingly creepy performance that while fully committed doesn't veer off into obnoxious scenery chewing. Moments that could be bombastic are instead effective due to their timing and contrast with the rest of the performance.

Besides just being the Jake G. Show, this movie is also a biting glimpse at a version of news production. Its insights in that regard aren't necessarily ground breaking (The "If it bleeds it leads" mentality has been commented upon before) but it all still works as it is in service to a great character story. The goal of the film isn't to skewer the already infamously blood thirsty TV news circuit but rather show how it serves as the perfect outlet for someone who himself is ratings driven, but completely without empathy.

The best praise I can give this film is that it is going to make a fascinating double feature with Drive. There are stylistic similarities and they are both set in the streets of LA. The main reason though why I am excited to watch the two films together is that while Drive can be read as an origin story for a bizarre almost Superhero, Night Crawler plays like the back story of a super villain.

9/10.

I'm seeing this and Birdman this weekend.

Can't wait.

This and John Wick surprised me by how great the ratings have been. I still need to see John Wick.

I'm gonna try to see John Wick and Nightcrawler back to back this weekend....and hopefully they can finally show Birdman next week.

Just saw it tonight. Great movie. See it in Regal's RPX or other premium large format if you can.

Dan Gilroy and Robert Elswit make some very good choices with the photography, plus the car choice was great (hot red Dodge Challenger). Gyllenhaal gives one of his best performances and I loved the commentary on bloodthirsty news reporting. The climax of the film was awesome.

9/10

This movie was outstanding, I even had high anticipation and it blew my mind.

Jake was crazy good. He might be my favorite protagonist of this year...

Great score, might be my favorite this year. Not typical JNH either, very electric and nail biting when he usually is more orchestral.

This might be my favorite 'origin' film since Batman Begins. Honestly would love a tight trilogy franchise with this. When that last scene played out I was sad, could totally have gone another 2 hours and would have been satisfied.

Damn, totalyl pegging this as my favorite movie this year. Wonder if Interstellar can top how much fun I just had.

I think this is the best review I've read of the film.

Thought this movie was fantastic. Gyllenhaal gave a hell of a performance. So damn creepy.

That's a great review redhawk.

Just back from seeing it myself and was really impressed. From the trailers and clips I knew it was going to be a movie that I would love and it didn't disappoint.

Jake Gyllenhaal is just too damn good now.

Saw this tonight. It was a very good movie. Performances and everything were top notch. I only had one issue with it. It felt too restrained. Like the director was holding back. You have a crazy guy filming carnage, yet we saw no actual carnage. I'm not advocating a gore fest, but I just felt it was holding back a bit too much. I also wasn't terribly fond of the score. It felt very "movie" to me. The score should have had more life in it.

I saw this movie tonight and thought it was just okay. I get that the movie is giving people a glimpse of what news production/ reporting is like ( I have my college degree in broadcasting) but I didn't find the plot or movie to be all that engaging. The acting isn't bad and Jake Gyllenhaal is good here, but his character is so unsettling and unlikeable that for me it was hard to stay invested or to root for him. I also didn't like the ending and thought it was very unsatisfying for the audience. I am mad my regal theater charged 15 dollars since the only showing I could make was the RPX showing which is a cheap imax knock off that is no different than their regular screens. Anyway, I give the movie a 7/10.
