Far From Home Jake Gyllenhaal is...Mysterio?

I’m very interested in seeing how they interpret the character. I would love to see something similar to Cohen from Bioshock where he’s this twisted theatrical thespian who’s fallen off the deep end and desperately lives in his own fantasy world.

Not sure how that can work with Peter’s development though but cleverer people than I are thinking about that no doubt

He’s got the potential to be a totally unique villain. Going to be very interesting when we get to see more.

For his origin and motivation, can we not have another forced feud with Tony Stark/Avengers or his magic tech being Stark tech or Alien/Chitauri left over tech, please. No more forced tie ins.

What if Mysterio plays a role in setting off the marvel multi-verse on screen? I'm not suggesting they give us a Spider-Men movie, but in that storyline, Mysterio opens a portal to the Ultimate universe and transports Peter there.

Feige says that Phase 4 may not be a phase after all, and that this film will set the tone for the MCU moving forward.

I don't know, just sharing some thoughts/ideas. Let me know what you guys think.

I think that was just more important for the first one to fully establish that Spidey had joined the MCU. Hopefully won't be as prevalent any more.

I did not find Vulture's ties to the MCU "forced" in any way. He is the Vulture, and he is scavenging existing materials before the Damage Control gets its hands on them.

As Iceman mentioned above, it also helped establishes Spider-Man into the MCU. Spidey isn't just fighting a villain after getting his powers: there is a villain that has existed long before.

Vultures live off the scraps/remains of others, so Toomes running a business that thrived off the scraps of the Avengers made perfect sense. That was not forced at all. It was conceptually brilliant.

Fair enough... They did go a bit over the top with the MCU tie ins in the first film, but that was a bit more understandable.

The Spidey lore is big enough, they should explore that. Just don't want stuff like Doc Ock used to be a Stark Employee or his extra limbs are made from Vibranium kinda stuff.

As far as Mysterio's tech, I think he should build it himself. If he's already established as an FX genius, then it'd be entirely plausible he has the skills necessary to build his own tech without aid from Tinkerer and Chthauri leftovers.

Have you noticed how no-one here in this thread is disputing Gyllenhaal's casting at all. It's all about Mysterio's costume and how he can be executed in live action.

I think when you're a talented actor, there is a level of trust he will be great. The MCU has a great track record of landing stars who fit the characters.

Plus with Mysterio, he has a very iconic look relative to many other Spidey villains, so how that will be presented is something I see people having strong opinions on.

That's probably because Gyllenhaal's casting in this has been almost universally praised and has people excited, like when Keaton was cast as Vulture.

Exactly. The extent of the Gyllenhaal convo is:

"Hey, he is Mysterio."
"Wow! Great actor and great choice for the role!"
"I agree"

Nuff said on that :o

It's reminiscent of when Keaton was cast as Toomes. Universally praised and the discussion centered around the execution of Vulture and the aesthetics.

And those arguing that Keaton would be Norman Osborn instead :oldrazz:

Yeah that was annoying, people thought that he'd be "wasted" as Vulture or something, forgetting the fact that it's Michael friggin' Keaton, a man who could play the Condiment King and still make him terrifying.

How I relish this moment!!! :hehe:

If you don't like the actor as a person, that's you. But denying the talent is just sipping haterade.

You've seen Homecoming, right? I don't understand how any of that was "forced".

I have a better question...do you guys think there is any chance at a gigantic Mysterio? He has grown colossal a few times in comics, and was giant for his infamous boss battle in the PS1 Spider-Man game (one of my favorite boss battles ever in a Spidey game).

That'd be cool as long as it isn't too similar to the giant Sandman fight from SM3.

My favorite Mysterio story was when he made Spider-man believe he was shrunk down into a life-size model of an amusement park. I'd love to see something like that.

And he's back for a second appearance and maybe even a third once the Sinister 6 make an appearance.

Anyone think part of the Mysterio costume will be Mo-cap stuff? I could see it, especially the helmet.

The thing with Vulture and Mysterio too is if they're needed for the Sinister 6, you could always just use a body double/CGI and have Gyllenhal and Keaton do voice work for it.
