Far From Home Jake Gyllenhaal is...Mysterio?

I think it was already confirmed Iron Man is not the MCU hero in the movie.

Just add a cape and this is more or less how I'm expecting him to look.

looks to much like Halo to me.

I hope it’s none. I know part of the deal with Sony was to have MCU characters appear but it makes it seem like Spider-Man can’t deal with his own problems without help.

I thought doomguy honestly.

I think the fishbowl looks good so it’s almost there. The purple cape could still work, I’m still hoping we get a kooky attention seeking mysterio. And we know because of doctor strange that marvel can do good capes

The Mysterio costume should look more theatrical. Not a Doom/Halo cosplay. I liked how they adapted Vulture's design for the first film, but Mysterio's costume makes sense for his character. No need to give it any sort of pseudo-military feel, just update the classic look.

Yeah. No armor, no tactical gear, nothin'.

Dude in a cape with a glass dome on his head, being wacky & eccentric. Bada-bing bada-boom.

Make his suit armored, he needs to withstand strong kicks. It shouldn't look heavily armored with lots of joints.

Mysterio is basically a cosplayer. His **** should look crazy. I think it'd be cool that if Peter finds out who he is under the mask he's actually a little starstruck due to being familiar with his work in movies or tv shows or something.

If they're going for an international espionage thriller vibe with this film, Mysterio would be perfect for it.

finally get a villain where I hope the writers can figure a cool way to show case Spider-man's spidersense ,

something we have never really seen done all that well before

but Mysterio is a great villain to show case the spidersense

Yeah, We still have to see the full potential of the spider-sense in a movie. It's an amazing and unique ability, and there's so much cool stuff you can do with it.

I know people aren't keen on Ultimate Mysterio, but I liked his dark, snarky sense of humor ("A fat man fell and broke his everything"), I hope they bring that to the film.

You know it’s funny you said that because as soon as I found out Mysterio is in this I realised I wanted something triply like that 60s psychedelic thriller ‘the prisoner’

You could even get Jake to wear that outfit as a civilian look as a homage.

You know the tv show I mean, it’s the one the simpsons ripped off

Why would Mysterio look militarised though? Like, I get Vulture looking a bit more like that than Mysterio.

Hope they pull something more theatrical off like the others have said.

Mysterio could be a cult leader where he brain washes people into doing things for him like the TV show American Horror Story Cult.

There's absolutely no need for the design to be militarized or grounded in any way.

Also what color would you guys want his mist to be? Green? Blue? Cloudy white?

Keep the Winkler Machine and the likes out of the master of illusions arsenal.

Mucus green.

I'd like Mysterio's voice to sound like the rabbit from Donnie Darko (hehe), calm but eerie and distorted.

As I said in the helmet thread, I think that they could combine some of the psychedelic visuals of Dr Strange with the web swinging of Spider-Man. Imagine having all these buildings curving all over the place and warping, and then having Spider-Man having to swing through these. What an action sequence that would be.

Also if anyone played Avengers Alliance, Mysterio could alter the environment completely. Spidey could suddenly be in a gravity-less space or drowning under water. There's a lot of potential.

I know nothing about this character (or actor) and as such have no real expectations, so I'm very much of the "just wow me" crowd. The basic idea seems interesting enough on paper and most of theses designs look cool. Pretty much any iteration of the suit has a head-scratching WTF factor, so I think whatever they do will have that effect on general audiences.

That would be amazing! As I've said before, there's potential for some groundbreaking stuff.

The big question is, how goofy should Mysterio be vs. how sinister should he be?

The big question is, how goofy should Mysterio be vs. how sinister should he be?

It's all in the execution and how fully they commit to it. He can still look goofy but be totally sinister. One's perception changes of a thing once it emotionally affects you. Something can look initially silly but when it has actually scared you, you don't think of it as silly anymore. After all, many people are scared of clowns. They're often just people in a gaudy circus costume with white make-up, a red nose and a wig. They could look ridiculous and goofy, but why do people find them so creepy?

And the 70s TV Incredible Hulk could seem goofy and rather B-movie-ish if you simply looked at pictures, but when you watch the actual series, it is really quite tense and like a psychological horror. That version is actually far scarier than any of the more monstrous versions from the films.

So Mysterious can easily have a fishbowl and theatrical costume. On the surface he could look silly, but once he's scared the **** out of Spider-Man (and possibly the audience) that is not going to look silly anymore.
