James Bond: 007 - Spectre - - Part 11

Hinx was cool but his involvement didn't make a lot of sense to me. Blofeld apparently wanted Bond to come to his secret base so he could torture him. So why did Hinx show up on the train and try to kill him?

Like I've said before, I thoroughly enjoyed the movie, but a lot of it didn't make sense.

Why did Hinx waited that long to attack? Did he snuck on the train later that night? And now?

But you brought up a good point. Something I didn't think about, and that's why it's stupid to make it so personal for Blofeld. So obviously Bond can't be killed off because it's a part of a larger plan.

It is weird.

I think it's due to 'modern mis-memory' when we clump things together. It's like instead of saying "QoS was like Bourne', people would say 'Daniel Craig's Bond movies were like Bourne'.

The irony of claiming Casino Royale or SKyfall is MI like is that Spectre makes a far better case.

Not only the plot is similar to Rogue Nation, but Bond teams up with his MI6 pals at the end to take down the bad guy.

It also doesn't make sense why they were shooting at Bond while he was trying to escape from the Rome meeting.

And Rogue Nation handled the group aspect a lot better.

And Hinx attempting to Murder Bond even though Bond was going to Blofeld's base.

Why do people ignore that both Casino Royale and Skyfall have plenty of the "classic Bond elements", but use the far more organically for the most part? Casino Royale emphasis Bond's love of the martini multiple times, he beds multiple women, has the gunbarrel, he wears a tux, and ends the film with the best version of, "Bond, James Bond". Unlike Moore movies, he actually drives an Aston Martin. The same stuff applies to Skyfall. What exactly is missing?

Also, just because you didn't grow up in that era, doesn't mean the old Bond movies weren't heavily borrowing from the other films of the era. Roger Moore's collection is anything but original.

I am more baffled when Casino Royale is compared to Bourne. Has anyone ever SEEN the action? They are gorgeously framed and cleanly edited. The film has a middle that is comprised of a card game and a last reel that is all lovey dovey romance.

Yup, sounds just like Bourne.

Casino Royale is Batman Begins, QoS is Bourne and Skyfall is TDK, if we are playing that game. At least that is how I always saw it.

I think Rises is better than Spectre though. Sure, Rises in its dumbest moments are dumber than even Spectre, but its few highs, like Batman's return, Bruce's escape, the duel, and the ending montage far surpasses anything in Spectre.

Oh, no doubt. I actually rather like TDKR, even with its problems.

Saw it last night. Wasn't as good as Casino Royale or Skyfall, but I still thought it was great. Then again, I also I like Quantum of Solace.

It's nice having a traditional Bond movie again. It's been a long time since we've had one, and even longer since we've had a good one.

What is traditional about this movie, that makes it different from Casino Royale and Skyfall?

Gunbarrel at the beginning, overall lighter and more playful tone, Bond is more quippy, Bond getting *****ed at in M's office, Q branch scene, exploding watch gadget, cool car tricked out with gadgets, Spectre meeting scene, Blofeld, Blofeld's cool base, Blofeld's cat, great henchman, "Vodka martini. Shaken, not stirred.", Bond with the girl at the end, etc.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head without getting absurdly specific like for example the interaction between M and Moneypenny about the birthday gift, or how the way Bond lands on the couch is very Roger Moore. Or getting into all the awesome specific homages both big and small to classic Bond movies like how the whole train sequence obviously calls to mind From Russia With Love, or how the part with Bond and Madeleine getting taken to Blofeld's base is straight out of Dr. No.

Skyfall was gonna have the gunbarrel at the beginning. But the opening shot was very similar to the gunbarrel anyways. So they didn't want to be redundant.

Skyfall was a more widely accepted movie because, up until Spectre, it was a stand alone Bond movie. The audience didn't need to see either QoS or CR to understand what was going on.

This should be a lesson to the producers;

Stand alone Bond movies > Continuity Bond Movies.

Internationally, Yes. In the U.S? No.

I think it's pretty impossible for a Bond movie to flop. Even DAD did big at the B.O.

Outside of the Gunbarrel at the beginning (both movies still had it)and Blofeld, those scenes were in Casino Royale and Skyfall. Craig's Bond quips in the other three films, it just isn't super cheesy all the time like in SPECTRE. Skyfall had the original tricked out Bond car.

Also, plenty of those elements are missing from other Bond movies. How many movies is Blofeld in? Is there a Henchman in every movie? There is an exploding watch in every Bond movie?

Casino Royale had the Aston Martin DB5 as well. He won it from the cuckold he later kills.

I like a bit of both, standalone and continuity in my Bonds. But I love homages to previous Bonds and want every film to stick to the main traditions even when they do things differently.

It also had a better villain. Bane>>Oberhauser. Come to think of it, so does Rogue Nation. Solomon Lane>Oberhauser.

I know, but it wasn't that Q Branch one. It couldn't have been, because he won it. The DBS did have a few secret compartments however.

Lane is the one weakness in Rogue Nation imo. I didn't even remember his name, I just assume you are right here. :funny:
