James Bond: 007 - Spectre

I'm not at all sure what you mean by this.

Popularity, replacing Sean Connery was at the time, a very dangerous move, and the producers tried to ignore OHMSS as much as they could.

Die Another Day starts promising and then it just becomes awful.

I actually find the endless chase at the beginning to be very boring.

I think Die Another Day is good overall (except for Jinx's scenes) up until they go to Iceland. Then the nonsense takes over and it goes completely off the rails. And the tonal shift from the North Korean scenes with Bond being tortured to space lasers and face swapping is just so jarring. It is like they are from two different movies in some Frankenstein-esque melded abomination. Like if the first 30 minutes of Licence to Kill were stuck onto the beginning of Moonraker. Say what you will about Moonraker, but at least they knew what they wanted and ran with it.

I meant for the character. I also enjoyed that it had easter eggs for every Bond film up to that point for the anniversary of Dr. No.

In a way, it was the Bond franchise's own version of The Five Doctors

It starts.

I'd love for that bulldog to be in Bond's office or flat.

Yup, I hope its on M's desk, as a symbol that Bond will always be a part of MI6.

RE: Skyfall v CR, Roger Deakin's hand in Skyfall cannot be underestimated. That film is shot in the most stunning of ways, and I'm curious to see how SPECTRE can build on that

Yes, it's made by Royal Doulton. I happen to know someone in their marketing department: apparently Skyfall made them a small fortune.

Oh yeah, Skyfall looked absolutely beautiful.

Agreed. ^

The violence was just more abstract, but that doesn't necessarily make the film ugly...

QOS with the best cinematography?? That was a pain to watch. So dull and dreary and terrible camerawork. That was the worst-looking cinematography in the series.

Sorry? Before SF came along QoS had the best looking cinematography in the series.

I can't agree with that at all. It isn't nearly as good as Casino Royale for one, a long with much of the rest of the series. From Russia with Love, Thunderball, You Only Live Twice, On Her Majesty's Secret Service...those are gorgeous looking films.

Agreed. Diamonds Are Forever was really ugly too.

I rewatched Quantum of Solace a couple of days ago and while it is the weak link between the three films and, script aside, I think it does look nice. Too much shaky cam, yes, but some stuff looked good. And I specially liked how they had different typography to match each location. That was a nice touch.

And if M escaped? He was on a suicide mission. All he cared about was M.

But there was no way for her to escape. There were no vehicles there for her to access, and she's an old lady on foot that he could easily chase down.

But that was just one example. How about how they treat hacking like it's magic. Or how Bond is shot twice, falls into a river clearly shown unconscious at the time, and then is magically fine later with no scene explaining how he survived it. Just seemed the realism aspect that defined the reboot initially was ejected and they've started returning to the over the top stuff they ditched.

That is the one aspect I did like.

The editing eviscerates the film, but QOS does have some purdy shots. I dunno if I'd call it the best looking film prior to SF (YOLT exists), but it was in the upper tier for sure.

Agreed. Of course I've made no secret of my utter distain for the film as a whole.

Yeah, QoS's look and camerawork was pretty shotty. The constant shaky cam really hurt the movie. QoS in general tried too hard to be Bourne.

This is probably my favourite image from QoS.
