Saw Skyfall tonight, loved it. An easy 9/10.

Question, can a guy enjoy this without seeing CR or QOS?

I think it's exceptionally odd that Craig is giving his best performance in the role and a great amount of the discussion centers around his replacement.

Never stop looking forward and all that. I love Craig in the role and will be sad to see him replaced, but it will happen so it is fun to speculate who might replace him.

While its fun.... but depending on the person discussing, it also can come off as dismissive and unappreciative of Craig.

I'm going against the grain here but I have to say I really didn't care for Skyfall.

I thought it too predictable, Mendes just can't direct action and Craig's Bond is a complete 360 from the Bond in Casino Royale - I'm all for character growth, but come on, would the CR Bond
have an ejector seat and guns fitted to the DB5?

Bardem was very good though, elevated the film from being a throwaway film.

I thought Mendes handled the action well. I would like to know how many years have passed since CR, anyway I gave the film 6/10.

I must say Craig is not aging well at all, shame as he is a good bond.

Question for those who saw it:

How much of a focus on Bond's parents were there? Was there a discussion about how they died and how if effected him while growing up? How much of it focuses on his parents?

There's not a huge focus on it, but it's discussed a bit, particularly by a character from Bond's past played by Albert Finney in the third act of the movie.

I would not say there were discussions on the topic, it was brought up in a few places. Not a whole lot was 'said' about his parents that we did not already know IMO

This has been getting ecstatic reviews with nearly every critic and everyone on the internet who's seen it... that is except Nolan Fans. At NF most of the people have called it disappointing.

This is getting an odd reaction. I keep seeing lots of high praise, and then I see a few people giving it 6/10. Nothing else. Just 6/10 or mindblowing.

One thing I'm curious about is that I've read that this film goes with the From Russia With Love formula instead of the Goldfinger formula which has become the staple formula. Is this why some are finding it disappointing?

Skyfall doesn't follow the formula of either of those movies, IMO. I'd be curious to read why some people thought it did. It's got a couple of Goldfinger homages in it.

I noticed some Goldfinger homages in the trailers and tv spots. From what I've read some said it followed From Russia With Loves pacing and layout in that it wasn't your traditional Bond formula and was different from the typical Goldfinger formula.

I disagree, I think the action missed the urgency of Casino Royale, for example. The opening chase scene, in particular, felt particularly weak.

Does EON even have the rights to Blofeld?

In the game "From Russia with love", "OCTOPUS" replaced the SPECTRE. But Goldeneye 2010 et 007 Legend featured both the man with a white cat, and goldeneye 2010 featured event Largo. So I assume that EON has now acquired the right of Blofeld and the SPECTRE between QOS and Skyfall

Not very much, we only saw their graves but, during all the movie, it is implied that the trauma of their death is what made Bond the lone man with few respect of the hierarchy he is now. What is interesting is the way M is described as a surrogate mother for Bond, and Silva as some kind of evil brother

Funny how you've never mentioned QoS though in your argument. I'm assuming Skyfall was better than how that particular film handled the action.

It's hard until us Yanks or Canadians can dissect the film for ourselves. Obviously we can't gauge the film yet, though its hard to be objective sometimes because we are just judging on blurbs of opinions on a forum. I don't know the tastes or expectations of some people here who are loved it or thought it was a 6.

It's like how someone here was saying the action was subpar in Skyfall compared to CS. Maybe he has a good argument but never did he mention QoS and its awful action scenes either so his criticism doesn't seem well rounded.

Or it's like how a few people here got to see The Dark Knight Rises before the release date in special screenings, and claimed it was better than The Dark Knight and was Oscar worthy which was not the case when i saw i (I'm a fair guy too). Bias played a role in their enthusiasm obviously.
