I better leave too until after I see it. Good luck guys.

Ciao Skyfall thread, see you on Nov. 9th.

This is going to suck waiting two weeks while all the hypsters across the pond rave about this film.

Love him or hate him, I loved Devin Fararci's mildly spoilery review of 'Skyfall' (Besides his passive aggressive remake about 'The Dark Knight'.

What I love the most is his description of Roger Deakin's digital cinematography and how he feels about today's problems with digital filmmaking in general:

...I have to take time to single out Roger Deakins, whose cinematography is nothing short of groundbreaking. Shooting on digital, Deakins has managed to create a lush, colorful, rich look for the movie. Halfway through I realized this was shot on an Alexa and I couldn’t believe what I had been seeing - images with texture and life, and night scenes that were expertly lit to avoid the pitfalls of the medium. Too many old school DPs get tripped up by digital cameras, but Deakins not only triumphs, he utterly wrestles the digital image into a presentation as good as film. Skyfall is a movie that will assuage some of your fears about our digital future.

Craig still has 4 movies to go if he wants a fair comparison with Connery (I'm including NSNA only because it made up for DAF).

So what you guys been getting upto Skyfall? Watched any or played 007 movies and games?

Going to re-watch Dr. No, From Russia With Love, Goldfinger, Thunderball, You Only Live Twice, For Your Eyes Only, License To Kill, All of Brosnan's films, Casino Royale, and Quantum of Solace to get ready.

So I saw 'Diamonds are Forever'. I don't hate the film, but within the official EON films, (ignoring 'Never say Never Again') it's totally the 'Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls' of the Connery's Bond.

You should add 'The Living Daylights'. I always ignored it until I actually saw it and I was blown away. Not perfect (poor villains, Dalton can be awkward with some of the sillier moments) but it's totally underrated.

At least Ford was trying in Indy 4, unlike Connery in DAF.

Connery came off as oddly casual in 'DAF'. While he seems 'more' into the role again, he didn't feel like Bond at all.

He seemed more into the role than YOLT? I can't agree. I thought he was more into it in NSNA and that says a lot.

Well, I like YOLT for it's Iconography in Bond-lore (Best Blofeld) and at least he didn't look like awful like the way he looked in DAF. YOLT gets a pass for that, while DAF was such an odd but fascinating disaster in Bond history.

I must confess I have a completely irrational soft spot for DAF because it was the first Bond movie I ever saw. I was about 7 years old at the time and I loved it, it is what made me a fan of James Bond. Age and reading the novels as a teenager completely changed my taste in Bond movies, but when it comes down to it, DAF is the one Bond film from the silly spectrum that I can actually watch. I guess that is the power of nostalgia for you.

I think all Bond movies are enjoyable even if they're pure schlock. Moonraker and DAF are great if you can accept them strictly 'B-Movies'. Also, I kinda enjoy them as time capsules of the 70's since I love that decade.. Seriously, the 70's is either super cheesy (disco) or super dark/political (punk, Taxi Driver, etc). Very bipolar.

I wonder how much of that enjoyment is childhood nostalgia though. When my friend and I were 9 during Goldeneye 64 mania, we each got Bond VHS collector's sets for Christmas. I got the one with GF, TB, LALD, FYEO, LTK, and GE. My friend got a Moore heavy set with MR, TMWTGG and I believe TSWLM. I never really saw the crazy Moore movies until I was older. To this day, my friend finds it far easier to enjoy the crazier Moore movies for what they are.

I'm trying to remember the 1st Bond movie I watched. I do know it was Connery... It has to be From Russia With Love.

I kinda want to see this, te last bond movie I saw was die another day.

There's a reason why me of all people (biggest King Connery fan there is) is conceding that he may now be the 2nd best Bond ever. I'm just being real and believe it or not, ruthlessly objective here. Not only us SF an incredible movie but Craig gives the best performance of any Bond actor ever. I'm not being hyperbolic and I'm not running on hype talk either. When the reviews were coming in, sure, it was great to read the positivity of it all but when over 95% of them are hailing it SS best Bond movie, Craig bring the best Bond and blah blah blah. One takes notice, especially if your a die hard Bond fan abd you think it's the critics now being hyperbolic. They are not! I remember when CR first came out and some critics hailed Craig as the best Bond but you know what? Craig has nothing left to prove IMO. YeH he's doing 2 more but if SF was his last, he would have easily and comfortably cemented himself as the best Bond. You guys need to watch the film to know what I'm talking about.

I'm still at the hotel, typing all this on my phone. When I get to a cimputed I'll try to write up a review of yesterday's event.

Awesome! Ajendo, would you mind answering a spoiler question for me:

I have the Bond on Set book, so I know about a certain office at the end of the film with a certain man whose name starts with M sitting behind that desk. The book also has a script excerpt that mentions Mallory's "military training". Does the film go into any detail about Mallory's military past? Is the crusty old Admiral back at the head of MI6, except with a new name? Or is his background different from Bernard Lee's M?

Craig is just a such a badass. Add in the quips and you can't help, but like the guy. As much as I can't stand Roger Moore, I'll admit even he had charm and his moments. The fact that Dalton and Craig are so close to the book version gives them an advantage to high ranking as I'm all about the faithfulness of a character's transition from book to movie.

On the suave part when it comes to cinematic Bond, Connery will be the king of that. And the best part is he could kick ass just as much as Craig if not moreso.

You should add 'The Living Daylights'. I always ignored it until I actually saw it and I was blown away. Not perfect (poor villains, Dalton can be awkward with some of the sillier moments) but it's totally underrated.

It was okay from what I remember. I think I'm not too fond with it for the same reason as my disdain for Rambo III is the setting. Afghanistan is just a such a boring ass location.

Although I'll admit it features my favorite Dalton moment where he smacks that goon with his gun, lol! Pure awesomeness.

When I was a kid, I liked it. Watched it recently and it was terrible. Might as well re-title it Diamonds Are Failure. Wish I could go back in time and smack Guy Hamilton and the writers for that farce that was made.

Same here. It took me forever to watch Dr. No growing up because strangely, it was one of the few titles missing from my dad's collection.

Yes, Mallory is the new M an his background is touched on when Bond shows off his background knowledge of Mallory to Eve. I can't remember the exact details but I think Mallory has a slightly different background to Bernard Lee's Miles. At the end of the movie, it's all
down to business Bernard Lee style. He gives Bond a mission and pretty much tells him to get
on with it.

Ajendo, thanks, a bit of a follow-up if you don't mind:

Awesome. Does the re-created M's office have the red light over the door that does on when M is not to be disturbed?

Fiianlly! someone else who has seen it! what did you think of
Mallory being M and whats her name being Moneypenny?
Ajendo?

Also how did you get premiere tickets?

not that I recall but it is indeed a Bernard Lee era office, including padded door :-)

I thought Mallory was great! At first one would think he's some government a-hole coming to mess things up for the double o division but through out the movie he proves to be a solid guy, out to look after M and the division. When Bond recited his research to Eve about Mallory's past, that was a nice touch where you knew he was on the side of solution as opposed to being a problem. As for him being M, excellent casting! He was straight down to business Bernard Lee style, when he handed Bond his latest assignment. As for Eve as Moneypenny , I like that too. I love how Bond and Eve's relationship was that of flirtatious comradery so when she is revealed as MP it's not jarring at all. All the characters were great and appear to be more than suitable for their respective roles.
