James Bond In Skyfall - - Part 11

I would argue that Moore looked damn good until he really hit the mortal brick wall with Octopussy. He looked at least 10 years younger than he was when he did LaLD. I had no idea he was 45 back then.

Even then he looked good for being in his mid 50's with his later films though the stunts made it obvious it wasn't Moore.

I definitely agree that Moore looked great for his age in LALD. He looked great until Octopussy, where his age started to finally show.

Still, despite his age I felt like from TSWLM onward, Moore's performances as Bond were much stronger than his first two outings, despite the silliness of the scripts.

I couldn't buy him as a former SAS when he was firing that AK-47 around and then at that staircase ornament.

Agreed. He seemed to have trouble getting into the role at first. He has some good scenes in TMWTGG, but he never really made the role his own until TSWLM.

I personally felt that it looked like Connery aged a lot between Goldfinger and Thunderball even though they were only a year apart.

He didn't age at all. He gained weight, he wore a different wig, and he plugged his eyebrows more than they needed to be. Especially in the pre-bahamas scenes. That's why he looked so different. But I think weight was the biggest issue for Connery. In each new installment, you can tell he gained weight. He practically had a beer belly in Diamonds Are Forever. But if you watch 1981's Outland which he got in-shape for, he looks great. If Connery had stayed in shape for all his Bond films, his aging wouldn't have been as noticable.

Roger Moore had a similar issue. You can tell he put on a few pounds in-between TMWTGG and TSWLM. And he put on even more weight in FYEO.

Pierce Brosnan, I believe, is the Bond that REALLY aged badly inbetween films. In GoldenEye, he was VERY youthful. Arguably the most youthful of all the Bonds. And by TWINE, he had loads of wrinkles and that soft, old guy skin. You can even spot a few grays on his hair.

Brosnan was probably older than he wanted to be when he first played bond, as he was originally set to take the role almost a decade earlier before his tv show contract (for a show that was cancelled a year later anyways) prevented him from taking the role and off course dalton taking over.

Although i've heard other opinions that brosnan would have looked too boyish at that time to play bond.

While I agree about Connery's hair piece and eyebrow plucking being the main causes of Connery looking so different between Goldfinger and Thunderball, I really don't think you can blame his weight for the change between those two films. Connery was in great shape for Thunderball because he had to do a lot of his own swimming and diving for the movie. (hence the change in hairpiece)

I'd say Connery looked to be in better shape for TB than he did for GF. Granted, he was leaner in DN and in FRWL but in TB he was in the best shape of his Bond career.

He was only 41 and still had his boyish charms. In TND, he still looked great, although you can tell he was losing his youthfulness. But in TWINE is when he suddenly starts looking old.

Although i've heard other opinions that brosnan would have looked too boyish at that time to play bond.

I really don't think you can blame his weight

I'm not blaming it. I'm just explaining the difference in appearence. His weight was only an issue in YOLT and DAF. If he had stayed in his TB shape, people wouldn't complain about his aging.

I think you misunderstood the discussion we were having then and my use of the word "blame" (I meant it as in to attribute cause). There was a complaint that Connery appeared to "age" considerably between Goldfinger and Thunderball to which you responded with the comment about Connery's weight gain causing him to appear older. While I agree his weight has much to do with change in appearance in regards to YOLT and DAF, the fact that you seemed to be attributing Connery's changed appearance between Goldfinger and Thunderball to weight was an odd comment. We were discussing why some people think Connery looked so much older only a year later in the specific instance of the gap between Goldfinger and Thunderball.

I kinda agree that Pierce probably looked his best in 'Goldeneye'. And by 'TWINE' and 'DAD', he aged rapidly. Still handsome but noticeably older and slightly heavier.

But if you think about it, he was 49 when 'DAD' came out. Within context, he still looked damn good for his age..all things considering. Same thing with Moore; looked damn good and seemingly ageless till Octopussy.

Connery used to be a bodybuilder and competed in Mr. Universe.

I think that Brosnan looking older in DAD worked since he was held in prison and tortured.

All this talk of Connery's weight reminds me of YOLT were they had to ice his nipples before certain scenes otherwise you could see his moobs through his shirt. :woot: Anyone who doesnt beleive me can see it on on the special features documentary of the old DVD.

Lol, really? But don't the nipples get harder when they're cold?

So what you guys been getting upto Skyfall? Watched any or played 007 movies and games?

How are you guys gonna go clothed? I have convinced my gang that the rule is suit up (or in desperate cases, white shirt) or no go!

In his screen test, he looked skinny. His shoulder's weren't broad enough

Brosnan was the pretty boy of the bunch of actors who played Bond.

The thing i'm sad about not happening is Brosnan as Bond in the 1980's walking into the classic "M" office for his briefing

From reruns of "Remington Steele" I can even hear Brosnan's young voice in M's office.

He was starting go gray around the temples during TND too
