Oh yeah I forgot about that. Well, if its alright with everyone else I'm just gonna stick with Emma and she is called M for short. I figure they wanted to give her a name [BLACKOUT]before they killed her. And Mallory, well, we know his name.[/BLACKOUT]

doubtful, since Kinkaid never met M, hadn't seen James in years and Kinkaid called her "Emma" in their very first meeting...

I'm pretty sure it was the thing of hearing Bond call her "M" and he mistook it to be short for "Emma"...

Could be. At the end Bond calls [BLACKOUT] Mallory M and it could be in short of Mallory so it is possible M got her name as a nickname from Emma.[/BLACKOUT] She may have also been called M because it is short for Ma'am. I 've never thought M was an actual title. Just short for a name. Something those who know her call her by.

Well in CR Bond mentions he thought it was simply a randomly assigned letter, but that it was actually short for something. Emma makes sense. [BLACKOUT]Makes sense with Mallory[/BLACKOUT].

how could it be a term of endearment with Kinkaid being sweet on M when he calls her "Emma" at their first meeting?...

he probably just thought when Bond called her "M", he was calling her "Em"... short for "Emma"...

Which he very well could be. They make a hint at this in CR.

That is exactly what I meant. But you are right it wouldn't be out of endearment. He would have thought Bond called her Em because Bond knows her. Kincaid being a gentlement he would call her by her full name out of respect. I liked ol kincaid. So glad [BLACKOUT]nothing happened to him. When he stepped into the chapel when Silva was in there I clenched up. [/BLACKOUT]

yeah, I liked the old sod, myself... and old Albert Finney... THAT really threw me... haven't seen that actor in YEARS...

but as to M's real name, guess we'll never really know... and actually, I prefer it that way... we never DID know Bernard Lee's M's name, nor the real name of the M that replaced him during the Moore/Dalton films...

just as we'll never really know if Silva was really M's son...
 
Yes we did know the original M's name.It was Miles.It's still unknown If Robert Brown who
played M In Octopussy through Licence to Kill was same M or new M.I am always on side of him being the same M.
 
Saw it today, It's not as intense as Casino Royale but it does bring in a big story for Bond. I'm not huge into James Bond (just know the essentials) but I like all the call backs in this film.

Also... [BLACKOUT]throwing knife for the win. [/BLACKOUT] lol

Something that struck me as bit off perhaps was that Silvia was so obviously [BLACKOUT]not british[/BLACKOUT] and was very obviously spanish i mean with his thick accent and name[BLACKOUT](s)[/BLACKOUT].

How would he have been hired and [BLACKOUT]risen up the ranks of MI6?[/BLACKOUT] I though you had to be a British national?

Bond introduces M as "M" and then Kincaid just starts calling her "Emma."

Also Bond never blamed M for a betrayal:

At the end when they were talking about it, Bond said no when she asked if she ****ed this up. Bond didn't blame her or try to make her feel bad. He just said no, you were doing your job. Even after what happened to him he didn't blame M for what happened.

Bond's childhood:

I'm not sure what else was needed. I think we got enough. I didn't need a bunch of longwinded explanations. Bond was a maladjusted orphan to some elite or upper-crust class parents. His parents died when he was young probably I'd say pre-teens or early into his teen years and that had a traumatizing affect on him. He doesn't like getting close to people (I mean there are other reasons for that as well) and M is like his surrogate mother.

Deep down he knew M did care for him and tried to look out for him. He also knew what happened is because of the ambiguous nature of what they do, it wasn't personal. Why did Bond come back? I think it's more than some sense of duty to England and what happened to MI6 and leaving things unfinished. I think he just wanted to protect M after everything they had been through. When push came to shove, M went to bat for him. He wasn't manipulated by Silva.

and therein lies the possibility of Silva (Rodriguez) possibly being somehow related to M who may have put in a good word for him at the start of his career with MI-6 to further him along?...
 
Guys, we can have soldiers here who have accents and were probably raised or spent parts of their life in another part of the world.

He could've been a British citizen who was born or spent early parts of his youth in Latin America and he still had an accent through most of his life.

There was a lot of history between M and Silva. I would like to know more, but as it stands he is her frankenstein monster.

This. In the US military not everyone was born in the states. And the CIA has people from all over the world working for them. MI6 is probably the same.
 
Exactly. Besides, we've only seen 006 and 007. Never the others. Who's to say 003 isn't german?
 
I imagine that the physical and mental requirements for the job are so high, they wouldn't be so picky as to only include natural borm citizens as opposed to legal immigrants who can pass the tests.
 
What a fantastic film...I have to say this film felt refreshing and expanded the Bond lore into a more realistic capacity. I enjoyed it and hope for my Bond films with Craig.
 
Call me crazy, but I didn't love Skyfall as much as I thought I would. Casino Royal is still my favorite Bond film of all time, but Skyfall remains leagues ahead of Quantum of Solace.

The anatgonist to Skyfall was perhaps the biggest issue, in my honest opinion. Silva fell flat and too comedic for my tastes, but Bardem was outstanding. I don't know, I suppose I expected a different villain than the one I got in the end.

The third act on this bad boy was all sorts of not that good for the audience(me included).

can someone quickly inform me why
Assuming Silva wanted to be captured, he did all of that just to escape, put on a cop suit and try and kill M. Couldn't he have just done that last part on his own?(cop suit included)
