James Cameron's "Avatar" Thread v.4

Man, the hunt festival and the Earth scene would´ve been awesome to see on the big screen, did anybody notice how in those 2 scenes everybody goes "Jake! Jake! Jake!" :awesome:

Also, the animation looked PERFECT on Tsu´Tey death, the sun on Jake´s face to Neytiri crying, just, perfect.
Yeah I loved the Festival scene, especially Jake acting out the Leonopteryx chase. I love the way he says "TORUUUK" :woot:

I wish I could screencap the part where they Chant Jakes name. One of the dudes yelling it looks absolutely hilarious, lol

just picked up the 3 disc 'extended' blu ray at a out of town wal mart for 25 bucks! neat thing is my android phone helped me out. this movie is 35 at my wal mart in town. i was at a best buy and they had it on sale for 29 i scanned the bar code with my phone and it told me the local wal mart (50 miles away from my local one) had it for 25. went there, showed it the same price as my wal mart (35) scanned it at the price check, rang up 25!

I started watching the movie on HBO over the weekend and was really pretty disappointed with the effects without 3D. I thought everything that I just went along with in the theater just looked really fake outside of the theater. Really shows that the movie really was made for 3D and not 2D.

Not for me. The movie was just as great on my tv this past weekend.

I must say i loved many of the deleted scenes, but one of my favorites has to be Tsu'tey's death.

the CGI was made for the 3D?

ok :whatever:

I watched the extended edition a few nights back and it looked fantastic, just about better than the theatre because it wasn't in 3D. The glasses darken everything and without them there is more detail and colors of course.

I don't get how it would look worse in 2D at all.

Just got the 3 disc DVD and was bummed to discover that they've split each edition up into two parts over two discs, as opposed to having each full version on its own disc and putting the special features on a fourth (what's a dvd take to print - a few pence or cents?).

Really pisses me off each time I get to a point in the movie where I've got to take the disc out, load the other disc, wait for the menu to load up and then press play for the movie to resume from the point it was stopped etc. Kinda takes you out of the movie experience.

its the same with the other long Jim Cameron movie on DVD, Titanic (unless you had the single disc version). I am hoping when they release Titanic on blu ray it will be on one disc (movie).

The movie looks beyond amazing on Blu-Ray, the detail and clarity is second to none.

Ive heard that the movie on HBO looks like **** in comparison to the Blu-Ray too.

So how long is the extended extended version? is it 178min?

You know whats crazy?

Look at this:

And then consider that Avatar 2 will look even better. Knowing Cameron, he will push for something pretty amazing to top what he and his team did here

interesting. i thought that that it was the best facial movement from the whole movie. :yay:

and in the crowd shot if you look very good you can see where the live action ends and where the CGI crowd starts. its not 100% finished hehe.

It was the scene where she said, "They were so eager to learn... they picked it up faster than I could teach it." What made it odd was how she stopped at the end of the shot and blank stared straight ahead. Tthe way she put the book on the shelf and dropped her arm leading up to the stare. There was a lack of performance in that. After Norm asked her why the Navi didn't come back, her facial expressions went from one expression and stopped and then she made another one and stopped. There's is no natural fluidity in the transition from one expression to another. I wonder if they ran out of time at the end and this was the last sequence they were working. Which is to me why I think it looks less polished.

A lot of those extended scenes would have been great for the film. I especially loved the other Avatar drivers banding together to overtake the headquarters.

Also, we get a VERY good reason for Norm's "attitude improvement". :cwink:

And just seeing all the pre-production work they had to do on the film was amazing. I definitely agree with Cameron on it being a shame that the film didn't get recognized for costume design during awards season, 'cause everything you see the Na'Vi wear (granted, they don't wear much) had to be fabricated in real life. Everything you see them use, from tools to weapons had to be created as well.

Say what you will about the story not being groundbreaking enough, or anything like that, but there's no denying the work that went into making the film. And for someone like me who likes seeing that process from script to screen, this Blu-ray was a must-buy. I haven't even scratched the surface of the bonus features yet!

Indeed, that scene with Norm made me laugh.

It was so much work to get this going. I have a whole new respect for Cameron, because it certainly wasnt easy getting this movie done the way he did.

The stuff involving the new camera tech is the most mindblowing to me.

What I love about Cameron, is just how hands on he is with the Camera, as opposed to many other directrors.

Ok, so maybe this is another case of James Cameron proving he's totally effing crazy , or maybe its a case of Stephen Lang proving how badass he is. Or perhaps both.

But in the Capturing Avatar documentary, you can see that Stephen Lang really was on Fire during that scene in the final battle when his ship is exploding and he's getting in his AMP suit.

Thats really him on fire, and really him putting it out with his own hands.

Finally watched the extended edition as it finally arrived today, loved all the extra scene's, they all definately added to the movie, with Tsu-tey's death scene definately being the stand out, I thought the acting and dialogue in that scene were superb.

Havent got around to the deleted scene's yet, god knows when I will. I also thought the picture and special effects in this version were much better, blowing Fox's reason for the vanilla BD earlier in the year out of the water IMO.

If you guys have the collectors edition go and check disc 2 and find Crew film: The Volume under Production Materials. It might be the funniest and greatest extra ive ever seen on a bluray/dvd :funny:

bought the collectors dvd set the other day
got it for the cheapest place i found... $21.99 marked down from 38....

other places... 38 was just the starting price

anyway... before i watch... for those that have watched it... is the stuff in the special edition of the movie in the longer extended version aswell...
if so it does seem rather pointless to have the special edition on the disc

I was wondering this as I watched the extended edition last night, and it seemed some stuff was missing, I havent seen the SE but remember the trailers, it may just be me but I am curious to see if this is the case.

would I be correct in thinking the 'bare bones' avatar theatrical release is a higher bit rate (less compression so fills the entire blu ray) than the extended blu ray release?
