James Cameron's "Avatar" Thread v.4

Disney might as well just re-release Endgame and Avatar on alternating years at this point, which, it's Disney, so I could easily see them doing that just to retain spots 1 and 2.

Meanwhile, Gone with the Wind is like 'I mean, it's still technically me, so...'
Gone with the Wind also had the advantage of having a good 40 or so years where the only way to see it was in a theater unlike later record holders like Star Wars and E.T. which were closer to the home video era.

I also think that there’ll be some sort of Endgame rerelease with even more bells and whistles like never before seen deleted footage to try to take the crown back. I just can’t believe that many people in China made the effort to see a movie in theaters that’s been available to watch at home for over a decade now. But I guess the same could be said for everyone who watched the Star Wars trilogy Special Editions or the Jurassic Park 20th Anniversary 3D rerelease.

To me at least, when people say "Nobody remembers Avatar" what they are really referencing is how Avatar no longer has the massive pop culture presence and relevance that it did, relative to its sheer box office success. People remember that it is a movie that happened and made bank, but people talk about other movies much, much more. Moreso than you would expect for what used to be the biggest grossing film ever.
