James Cameron's Sequel to "AVATAR"

3 movies? I have no idea how Cameron is going to fill ONE sequel.

Me neither. But hopefully, he won't be consumed with writing all three scripts. It'd be better for him to focus on the structure and have people he trust write the scripts for him (or at least do some dialogue polishes).

The cinematic world would be a boring place without Cameron. He does collaborate, but he is also a singular director...he kind of reminds me of Terrance Malick. Jim's Avatar was not just a movie, it was an experience. I loved every bit of it...he hasn't ever made a movie that has ever disappointed me completely.

I know he has buried the Terminator franchise, but it would be great to see him "3D" the Terminator films.

Couldnt agree more with this, I looks forward to any movie Cameron is doing and the only one of his I dont own is Titanic (and Piranha 2 if you count that). I loved Avatar despite its simplistic story and I am sure he will deliver again with the 2nd.

Cameron talking about the avatar sequels is soooooo 2010.

I had a blast with Avatar (unlike most people on this board) but I do think he got caught up with the technology, now the technology has been perferted you'd hope this time he will concentrate on the the script and deliver something that feels engaging and fresh as well as visually stunning to look at.

I guess these sequels mean Battle Angel is dead in the water :csad:

Probably, to tell the truth i never saw Battle Angel, but i think Evangelion should be adapted by a good filmmaker with the proper technology

3 movies? I have no idea how Cameron is going to fill ONE sequel. To be fair, if there is anyone who knows how to make a good sequel, it's Cameron.

thats his thing...how many other people would have come up with a liquid metal terminator for T2?

It's Cameron. A real life wizard. He always has tricks that do nothing short of wow.

But that was an unused idea for the original film.

Wait, Sgourney's character didn't die after all?

If not, that would awesome, I loved her in it.

I believe she did due but her consciousness was downloaded into Ewa...so she can come back in future films as a Obi-wan-esque ghost

I really hope she gets a new body all-together. I want to see her play a roll in the action.

3 more movies being shot together at once? Even before Avatar premiered i knew it was going to be pocahontas in space, that's why i was more interested even by then in knowing what the sequel would be like since i knew how good Cameron was with them.

Now shooting all of the next films at once? Does Cameron want to make the next films a Trilogy and epic like The Lord of the Rings? I hope he can have Avatar 2 done by 2015.

Brief update by JC himself:

'Avatar 2' Won't Arrive Until 2015 Or Possibly Even Later, 'Avatar 4' Reports Are Premature But Not Entirely Ruled Out

Well, I am fine with that. He can take his time and develop the techniques even further. On the other hand, even if there would not be a sequel, that would be fine by me. I can live quite good without more Avatar. It is probably the biggest cash grab since Star Wars and only supposed to make James Cameron and FOX richer. °sigh°

It would be a shame if there wasn't, i watched it with the idea in mind that there would be a sequel of the quality of Terminator 2 and Aliens to it. Either way i don't really know how he'll able to do a sequel, let alone 3, so i can't say much :D

I hope the film doesn't take too much, i like that he's taking time, but if this keeps going on like this by the time Avatar 2 is released it'll already have been 10 years since the original was released. Wish him good luck, i sincerelly want to see more James Cameron movies.

About as long as The Avengers 2 is away, and that doesnet seem to be a problem for anyone on these boards.

Does the character of Jake Sully really need to return to Pandora or could it leave off with another set of humans on this moon entirely? What about those trying to get the first human settlements there set up?

is Cameron in denial or what? he doesnt want to direct movies for a long time. its very obvious. just take a 10 year break .

Cameron has earned the "break" after Titanic and Avatar. I'd just wish we get something new instead of more sequels. What else are they gonna do with that little fictional moon? A massive underwater setting? He already has a sea epic under the belt with Titanic. The Abyss was another underwater adventure that proved to be one of the most technically and physically challenging films ever. It just seems to be a bit of a rehash.

We know Cameron is a film maker for the masses and I have no problems with that. But part of that lure is that he gives us things people haven't seen before. I really don't see where else he is going to go with this. I personally want him to dabble in a space epic/adventure or something to that regard, just not in the Avatar universe. I don't think returning to Pandora is the answer, unless he had a plan to scope this out over multiple films and really broaden the spectrum of this world from the getgo. Doubt that was the case.

Hasn't cameron commented that he is actually done with other films and is only wprking on avatar sequels? Pretty disappointing tbh.

Also 2015 is just another date thrown to appease fans during the wait. Remember when it was 2013, then 2014? now it's 2015.

Knowing cameron 2018 maybe 2017 the earliest is more likely.

Actually it was, before Avatar even came out and became the huge success it was Camron said he had planned to make a trilogy and would wait and see how it performed at BO before he went on. He also mentioned how they spent to much time working on the technology to only spend it on one film.

I think its fine to make an Avatar sequel but to commit the REST of your career on Avatar films only? Its like Cameron is slowly turning into George Lucas. I would've loved to see his Battle Angel, oh well.

Looking back at Avatar again, the plot just seemed ridiculous. Jake didn't so his job by simply asking the Navi for the right to dig on their land and it was an incredibly one-sided story. How can that be changed in the future? All the humans would have to do is knock out the tribe, start digging, and forcefully relocate them onto some sort of reserved space somewhere like real Indians on Earth. The Navi would have to escape the reservations, regather, and then reclaim their old lands once again by force from the evil mining men who get pushed back into space after the natives now carry heavier arms.

At least James Cameron can still be considered a real "filmmaker". George Lucas...well, not so much. If you look on the Making-Of Videos and the B-Roll of the Star Wars prequels...the way Lucas is doing his directional job is just beyond awful. Its like he is always bored with it, it always feels like he wants to do something else in that moment. He is never enthusiastic or something, he always sits in a chair or sits behind the camera (yes, thats right, this man SITS behind the camera) and having a Coffee to go in one hand. Personally I think George Lucas doesent even like directing. He was always a bussinessman first. A smart Businessman, I ll give him that. Just not a good director.

However, James Cameron doesent have to prove a thing anymore. He proved that he is a visionary and crafted and talented filmmaker back in the 80s and 90s. George Lucas has never done anything except for Star Wars. Cameron founded his legacy with at least 4 undenieable masterpieces, all of them vastly different from each other. If he now only goes for the big moneyz, well, I really cant get angry at him for that. He brought us great films, and he still is a pioneer in developing filmmaking techniques.

He still is one of the good ones, and Avatar was a spectacel appealing to the wide masses. It was a movie which wasent just a movie, it was a social event. It was a movie which millions of people over the world were willing to pay 12 Dollars to see it. Every filmmaker dreams of this. Mission accomplished Mr. Cameron.

I would rather want him to take his time, develop the technique even further, and then eventually writing a script for an Avatar sequel with an deeper and more original story, expanding the scope even more, and then make the movie happen with the absolute best and most awesome technique and CGI possible. A technique that will most likely be invented by Cameron himself. Yes, I am not angry at him. He deserves his money. He deserves his time off. At least he deserves it both more than George Lucas.

Agreed.
