Jared Leto IS The Joker

So which visual incarnation of the Joker will we see?

the 70s hat and trench coat Laughing Fish Joker?
the Arkham Asylum Joker?
the Bermejo Joker?
the Dark Knight Returns Joker?
or the Animated Series Mark Hammill Joker?

My votes for the 70s version or maybe even the Dark Knight Returns white suit Joker.

Doubting Leto's ability to pull a convincing Joker is completely senseless, I find.

He may not be one's personal choice or doesn't fit into the version a person had in mind, but this casting is as safe as it can get.
Yeah I think it is pretty safe and it's in the same Heath Ledger ballpark. Pretty boy who is quirky and method type of actor.

I'm starting to realize the term overrated means the guy you wanted didn't make the cut so this is the only way to vent. It's like the most common thing in sports ever.
I can't deny that that is what most mean when they use that word.

I've noticed that some people have a difficult time divorcing his film performances from his every-day self.

Having listened to his music and some of his interviews, I doubt we'd be friends if we knew each other. He comes across as pretentious and, for lack of a better term, kind of like a *****e at times.

I, however, don't let that perception bleed over into my viewing of his heart-breaking performance in Dallas Buyers Club. His final scene in that movie gutted me.
I think Sean Penn is an epic *****e and yet he was sensational in Milk. People really should stop letting an actor's *****eness get in the way of a fair assessment of their acting prowess.

Bermejo's Joker is basically Ledger's, in terms of design at the very least. Only his is even more grotesque with the scarring.

So I move that Leto and Ayer steer clear of that one. They're already going to get compared to the Nolan/Ledger combo. It'd be foolish to invite the visual similarity.

Here, some are unhappy because The Joker is being played by a *****ebag.

For what it's worth, Christian Bale, Tom Hardy, and lots of other actors have had episodes of less-than-pleasant behavior.

Also, why should that even be a strike against his playing a villainous character anyway? It's not like we're being asked to find him sympathetic.

Something that concerns me is, he doesn't seem to have the Joker's gleeful insanity down. I might YouTube him just to be sure, but I've seen some of his acting work (and heard some of his music), and I'm not seeing much of a funny side.

Heath Ledger never showed any gleeful insanity before he played The Joker either.

What?

He actually did, a little bit. That was part of the criticism, I think; people thought the doofy guy from A Knight's Tale and 10 Things I Hate About You was too lightweight to play the Joker.

Look up a deleted scene from his film Mr. Nobody on YT. It's called "Jared Leto's Laugh."

Some people just seemed to like to pick on Ledger.

He did romantic comedies, so he was too lightweight.

Then he did a super-serious dramatic performance in Brokeback Mountain, and then people said ridiculous stuff like "The Joker's not a gay cowboy".

I FORGOT TO SAY THIS BEFORE BUT... Nice casting, can't wait to see him in character.

I know everyone is entitled to his opinion but from all the posts I've seen from you in this thread and regarding this casting and the way you appoach to this, I'm really curious and I have to ask...

Davin Faracy is that you? :o

How dare you! :woot:

No, I'm not Devin Faraci. I'm not being that negative, am I? :yay:

I guess you have your opinion. and I have to respect it :)

Are people really doubting Jared Leto? He'll crush it.

And so what if he's a *****e. As far as I'm concerned being a *****e never stopped Charlie Sheen for getting roles so neither should Leto.

I just hope they give it a rest with the permanent smile idea.

This is weird hearing all the time now. I've never really come across this shared opinion of him before.

Am I missing some significantly bad quotes or incidents?

It's rumored he treats his female music fans rather badly.

After doing some searching over the past few years, it seems his reputation has been earned. Wow. :funny:

Well, I suppose it's fortunate Joker isn't the type of guy you really want to root for. Regardless my excitement for him in this part has not changed at all. All I care about is getting a entertainingly scary and vicious Joker. I think he'll deliver.

I think this is brilliant casting!

Jared has the classic Joker look, and he can play the psychotic, androgynous, theatrical, scene stealing clown that we've always wanted.

Ledger was awesome, don't get me wrong. But I think Jared has the acting chops and charisma that could potentially make him the best Joker we've seen on screen.

Bermejo's Joker came before Ledgers.

But yea they shouldn't go that route again. I want a Joker who is suave and dapper who looks after his appearance. Who is almost sexy and seductive... in a weird way.

Whichever came first, Bermejo's Joker looks almost just like Ledger's, so Leto should steer clear. I really hope they don't copy that design.
