Yeah, that would be a huge mistake. I think the presence of Harley makes it less likely, anyway, as the audience will probably need to have some appreciation of why she is so smitten with a murderous lunatic. That is much harder if he looks like a zombie.

It's interesting that someone brought up Hurt in The Elephant Man. It of course is a legendary performance... Of a real life person that did have difficulty speaking because of his deformity, so... The difficulty Hurt had worked. I think for a part that's all about the verbal skill of the character (The Joker is a "talky" part after all) that I just see prosthetics as being a hindrance.

I don't have any particular hatred for the New 52 in general, but that Joker redesign is just ugly as sin. There's not a thing about it that makes me want to see it in live-action.

That's how I feel as well. I like a lot of the New 52 (Azzarello's Wonder Woman and Lemire's Green Arrow to be specific), but the faceless Joker isn't one of those things.
