Jay Hernandez IS El Diablo

I loved him up until his final transformation, which just ruined the moment for me. Hopefully they can find a way to bring him back, because he deserves better.
Well in the comics he's died a few times and then was brought back to life so I could easily see that happening again should DCEU want to use him again.

Why didn't you like the transformation? I thought it was cool! I loved the Aztec (or was it Mayan) look it had. He's easliy the most powerful member of the squad then again only him and Enchantress were meta humans.

So why did they called him Ese?

That's kind of a Latino/Mexican gangster aka cholo thing. They call each other ese a lot. Deadshot called him ese because he looked like. Mexican cholo lol

Ended up enjoying this character a lot more than I expected & I thought he was pretty cool. Didn't mind the back story they cooked up for him either. Felt it worked well, all things considered.

Maybe Hernandez has a multi picture deal in his contract. Because a script for a sequel has been written yet.

It almost seemed like they’d all make it out. The Suicide Squad, finally working together as a real team, confront the monstrous Incubus and Enchantress, ready to stop the demon and witch and save the world. Incubus is proving too much for them, however, until El Diablo decides enough is enough and transforms into a veritable fire god, probably calling on the Aztec god Xiuhtecuhtli. He goes out in a literal blaze of glory, taking down Incubus in the process. As it turns out, that may have been part of the much ballyhooed reshoots for the film.

“It was interesting, because there were some changes that happened later on,” actor Jay Hernandez revealed to Comicbook.com, “I didn’t know that’s how the end was going to happen, early on. For me, it was important to make it good, make it impressive, and go out in a blaze of glory. Ultimately, I think it worked to give it some meaning, some emotional weight to the end of the story.”

Of course, this is a comic book movie, and Hernandez remains hopeful that he could return should a sequel to Suicide Squad get made.

“Of course there is [a chance he could return]! I’m not saying anything, just that it’s a possibility,” he said with a smile.

Interestingly, though, the climactic battle wasn’t his hardest shoot. Hernandez said that the bar scene, in which Diablo’s tragic backstory gets laid out on the table and the Squad truly comes together for the first time, was the most difficult.

“It was the scene I was most focused on. I wanted to make sure, because a lot of the story hinges on that moment,” he said. “It’s the moment the Squad is sort of galvanized. Before that, it’s a bunch of just random people and everybody has their own goal and direction, they hate each other, some are plotting to kill each other. After that, they sit down and they realize this is it, this is their shot or not, and they decide to do the honorable thing. I think part of why that happens is the opening up of Diablo, who has been closed off for the whole movie up to that point. It was a pivotal moment, and a really important scene for me.”

if they want to bring him back, they can always go by the excuse that as a fire-demon he can't be truly destroyed by fire aka an explosion.

Yup I agree. It would be incredibly easily to bring Diablo back considering his powers and backstory. I liked the character so I would love it if he came back!

Aztec Fire God Xiuhtecuhtli!!!

I thought he was quite a well done in the film
. Liked him a lot more than I thought I would

He was pretty good :) Though, the way they left his disappearance open towards the end...maybe we haven't seen the last of him.

Who is El Diablo? I tried to Google him but there are different versions (this is why I don't read comic books) This one is an X gang member but is he a villain from another series like Harley and Boomerang?

El Diablo is a name that has been used by several heroes in the DC Universe.

................

The third Diablo is Chato Santana, an ex-criminal with the ability to control fire. Santana becomes more prominent in the New 52 reboot, where he is a member of the Suicide Squad. El Diablo was created by Robert Kanigher and Tony DeZuniga, first appearing in All-Star Western (Volume 2) #2. (1970)

Or they can say the demon saved him last second
El Diablo is a legacy character that usually transfers to different people but I want Chato to return in the sequel.

:doh:made the mistake and watched it my god can they get any more pc and said luis from antman was how you do a latino character right without stereotyping lol

dc just adapted a character faithfully to the screen and they scream pc stereotypes and totally push aside that he was very interesting deep character with a redemptive character arc

Did someone really claim Luis from Antman was how you do a Latino? What? That character was a waste of Michael Peña talent! At least Chato didn't make a cliche immigration joke every five seconds. El Diablo was a great character that was one of the best things about the movie!

Really really like those guys...but man are they getting difficult to watch. I thought this movie would even be "fun" enough for them. I get being upset this is the first representation. However, none of them read the comic before and they acted like he was a 1990s stereotype. Ayer probably gave his character the most depth in the movie.

Yea I just don't get it...

Here's the real irony. Michael Pena worked with David Ayer on several films. Chances are if he wasn't in Ant-Man/Marvel he would have been the one to play El Diablo.

Yeah man, I loved those guys when they started but...Hector has been pissing me off lately. Adam is the only level headed one.

Most of the people that are calling the movie racist probably never read the comics. I've seen some people say that it's racist to have a Australian character named Captain Boomerang who also drinks and is rude.

Yeah he worked with Ayer in one of my favorite movies, End of Watch. That's how I first came across Michael, such a talented actor! I'd love it if he were cast as a DC superhero or villain only problem is he's too old to play Jaime Reyes or Cisco and he doesn't fit Kyle Rayner or Bane either. Those are the most famous Latino (male) characters DC has and the ones that have the highest chances of making it to the big screen.

The again Diablo made it and I never in a million years would have guessed that happening. And he's now a fan favorite in this film!

I'd get their complaining if say they turned Jaime, Cisco or Kyle into cholos but Chato? Really? That's his whole gimmick in the comics and it works well with his story. Some people just love finding faults where there aren't any.

As an Australian, his character was not racist. That's exactly how majority of us are.

While I liked the character a lot, I actually hope they don't bring him back, his death meant something in the movie, and I would rather they kept it that way rather than coming up with some hokey way to bring him back.
