BvS Jesse Eisenberg IS Lex Luthor - - Part 11

Exactly.Saying just because he said something in the movie, means he is not Superman is faulty because you need to see the context in which he said what he said.He has given us a Superman who is human, who has doubts like a human, who loves like a human, who has moments of weakness like a human, who takes the ferry like a human.and many don't want that. They want a perfect Superman.and that's fine I guess. But don't knock this Superman because he is just a human who wants to do the right things.

No, I'm sorry, but that's just not right. Superman has ALWAYS had emotions in the comics/previous movies... He gets angry, he gets sad etc. This includes the Maggin Superman, O'Neal's, Moore's, Byrne and Jurgens, and Chris Reeve. But he was an overall positive guy who didn't let the negativity rule him, and who doesn't ****ing mope for practically two full movies. Snyder didn't bring humanity to Superman, Superman's always had humanity... Snyder has maybe brought, I dunno... outright depression to him?

I'm not annoyed that Snyder's Superman feels negative feelings... I'm annoyed that it's what he almost exclusively feels.

Clark feels sadness and despair when it calls for it. He's happy when it calls for it. That's not what depression looks like.

Exactly

Jesse's Lex Luthor is the worst villain I have ever seen, it was first badly written, and second, annoying.

I wish Lex Luthor gets killed in the first minute of the next DCEU movie so we get rid of that clown.

Lex Luthor will evolve as the DCEU expands further as has been told by Geoff Johns himself. He will become more like the comic book accurate Lex that we know.

I love the fact Snyder used different takes on both Batman and Lex (which I loved) and wil give us the classic interpretation of them in subsequent movies.
For Lex to become accurate to his comic self, he would have to be at least 15 years older. And I don't see Snyder or WB moving the DCEU 15 years into the future, not when Batman is in his forties.

And even if they did, that ship sailed the moment it became public knowledge how rotten Luthor is.

I've got no problem with Lex. They said they wanted a mark Zuckerberg type Lex in this before the film came out and that's what they gave us. He manipulated lots of people in bvs like he does in the comics. He is someone who you want to punch in the face which makes Jessie great for this. Its not a perfect Lex but he will hopefully evolve in future films.

No, he played him cheesy. If he played him just like the Zuckerberg style that essentially would have been a good young corporate Lex. Instead we got Riddler Lex. :(

Lex Luthor traditionally has both charisma and composure. This version had neither. Depending on your experience with the charactewr, that may or may not be an important factor.

Mark Zuckerberg is not obviously psychotic in public. Eisenberg, right from the beginning, veers past "eccentric" into mental illness pretty quickly. One of the things I love about Lex as a villain is that in many ways his villainy is hidden. His costume is that of an upstanding industrialist and politician, while his real self is an evil megalomaniac. But there is no distinction with this Luthor. No one in their right mind would want to work with someone so obviously unstable.

Eisenberg is easily the worst part of this movie for me. There was absolutely no need to play the role in such an exaggerated fashion unless he was intended for comic relief or additional color.
I don't know why CBMs fall prey to this so much. The villain is the worst role for this kind of cheesy portrayal. How can a character be viewed as a real threat when they act like a cartoon character?
Lex's lines were good too! This very easily could have been played straight.

Exactly my thoughts. The script was great for the most part. It's just..some of the choices Jesse and probably Zack made were just wrong for this universe. It's similar to Jaime Foxx as Electro for me.

If anything, I would have liked them to switch their approach. Tone down Lex and allow more personality for Superman.

Agreed.

Haha yeah. Imagine if Mark Zuckerberg or somebody acted like that in real life. People would not be like "I wanna get into a billion dollar partnership with this guy!"

Idk, I wasn't a fan at first, especially of the casting, I just had a COMPLETELY different image of Luthor in my mind. Would have loved to see Daniel Day Lewis as a guy who keeps his composure in public, but is prone to scary outbursts of rage, behind the scenes, making him unpredictable and frightening. Kinda like Marlo Stanfield in The Wire, really quiet and composed, with this rage beneath the surface, with this cold, calculating gaze that can send chills down your spine with just a look and a sentence.

But I've come to appreciate what they're going for with this incarnation of Lex, and I'm willing to roll with it.

Speaking of scary villains, I hope they don't think it would be too soon, and we get a good incarnation of Bane. Would love to see what they could do with the character in this more comic book accurate (visually speaking) universe

Worse than Electro interpretation actually to me.

I keep hoping he will stay in prison and his father will show up portrayed by Billy Zane

Geez, I'm outnumbered here. I really enjoyed the take that we got. I mentioned this in another thread, but it wasn't what I had originally wanted.

To me, the animated series got it right. Even Bryan Singer got the casting right... the land scheme is another topic, haha. This is new, but Terrio and Eisenberg knocked it out of the park to me. It's a completely new character named Lex, but I grew to like that. He doesn't mirror Bruce Wayne, he has his own unique personality and flaws.

The "God is tribal" line especially shows that there's a deeper root to his hatred of Superman that just being less popular in the public eye.

I like the writing, just not some of the acting decisions. He left like he was in a different movie sometimes.

Yeah, it's all with taste. The UC helped me a lot too in seeing the more fleshed out plan, but that's back to the writing.

I liked him much better in the UE.

I do think a better actor takes it to another level.

Joaquin Phoenix would have been incredible as this version of Lex.

I remember reading somewhere that JE knew next to nothing about Lex and didnt even research him. He wanted to approach the role without being influenced by the comics.
He should have let himself be influenced.
That said, that may just be a rumor, no idea.

http://www.ew.com/article/2016/03/25/batman-v-superman-jimmy-olsen:

"Eisenberg has no idea how he fits into the pantheon of other Lex Luthors. “I’m so unfamiliar with anything surrounding it because I didn’t grow up reading the comics or watching these movies,” he said. “I read a little bit out of interest, but it was meaningless.”

This was the exact kind of cold indifference Snyder says he wanted. “He can’t fake it,” he says."

Joaquin Phoenix would have been incredible as this version of Lex.

It would be a waste of talent in this script and writing.

also, bare in mind that Joaquin is somehow arrogant regarding this type of movies, lately he only stars in "serious" and "deep" movies such as the ones by Paul Thomas Anderson. The only superhero movies he could have been in, are TDK trilogy with nolan, and that's a very little chance also.
