We have Henry Cavill as Superman. Let's get some photos of him:

You know what would be nice right now?

Yeah, some people just look younger. Eisenberg could still easily pass for late teens, early 20s in a movie. Cavill could not. Not a slight against Eisenberg, it just is what it is. There are plenty of other actors in the same category as him.

I don't see how that is a hyperbole. Some people just think he looks way younger than his age.

There are men that are manly and men that are boyish. He looks his age. Lex doesn't need to be a manly man to work.

I think this is the most controversial casting choice since Ledger.
I think you're quite right. Sad thing is, this guys is actually a good actor and even has the facial features of Lex, but sadly only looks about 23-24 years old. That is really just a huge sharp thorn in my side. Doesn't mean he wont be brilliant in the film, just that that he looks so damn young. I'm very conflicted on this one.

I don't even have that big issues with his looks. But he sounds just way too young, and not charming or intimidating enough. And that's my biggest issue with this decision.

I'd have doubted that guy would've cast Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor too.

Sure, good point. Then again, we don't know what they're up to with this Lex. I'm a fan of outside-the-box thinking, and I'm much happier with Eisenberg than I would have been with, say, mega-safe choice Mark Strong. Eisenberg goes in line with what I've wanted from Lex all along, at least in the broad strokes. This might just be fan conformity talking, but at least I'm intrigued.

What if the script has him as some young super-genius, hence casting Eisenberg 'cause he looks young?

He looks and he sounds younger than his age. And is quite short which doesn't help and makes him more kid-like.

He and they can correct for some of these things but it's just as well it's exactly why he was hired to be Mr. Facebook.

I'm with you there.

I hope the people who are worried about age and body type weren't fancasting 50-60 year old actors to play Lex because how is an old guy going to be intimidating going up against a 30 year old Cavill?

Lex will be the mastermind no doubt, but he will still have to have a heavy for Superman to go up against. That's where rumours of guys like Momoa and Rock make sense. They'll be the brawn for Lex's brain. I actually thing Eisenberg's small stature will provide a nice contrast to Cavill's Superman.

I did always imagine Lex with a deeper voice, but I think Jesse will surprise many.

I've thought about this being a possibility, and it just makes me wonder why the hell Snyder would go for such a direction. What are the advantages of having a young looking Lex that a regular aged version couldn't achieve?

Bear in mind, in no way am I criticizing Eisenberg, he auditioned and got the job, Snyder is the one to focus on in this case. What kind of version of Lex is this, that's what's puzzling me.

Who looks like a 30 year old man? This?

Or this?

Lex, Superman. Superman, Lex.

Superman: This is my arch enemy?

yeah, lex should be ripped cause then he would be able to kick the **** out of supes

It's an interesting choice. I think he's great and he's shown a cold, snake like mentality before in The Social Network. And I think he can also show some duplicitous charisma.

I'm open to this, he obviously showed them something worthwhile in a screen test/audition. And he's not going to be going toe to toe with Supes so his physical stature isn't an important point really.

No point in being close minded. Who would have ever in a million years thought Heath Ledger could be an amazing Joker?

Yea it's not like old people aren't intimidating. I mean look at Christopher Lee in Star Wars Episode 2 against Obi-Wan, Anakin, and Yoda.

Lex should be the King of Metropolis. He should be around Affleck's age. Cranston is the oldest I would go but Denzel could have worked. Phoenix could have worked. Hell the Rock could have worked.

This is another thing. I keep imagining a face to face between Lex and Supes and I just can't see it, because it's gonna look like a David and Goliath scenario where he looks like he's lecturing some kid. Doesn't work.
The height and voice are also a major concern.

We've yet to find out. I'm wondering, too. I mean, how can someone who looks as young as Eisenberg be intimidating to he most powerful man on Earth, unless he shows superiority through his intellectual skills aside from his physicality, right?

But, I'm not sure yet. None of us are. But I'm really excited for the film though.

That's the thing with me. I keep picturing them going up against one another and I laugh and I see Cavill's Superman laughing at Jesse Lex like you're serious?

I hope Superman breaks his neck. God snap his neck Superman.

Maybe this is a Mandarin thing. Jesse is the fake Lex and they haven't cast the real Lex yet.

Yeah, I think some people are failing to see the juxtaposition that we're being given here. And as I've said before, Lex's mind is his weapon.

I don't see how that is a hyperbole. Some people just think he looks way younger than his age.

It isn't. The internet learned the word "hyperbole" a couple of years ago, and its meaning is incrementally expanding to include "inaccurate assessment" and "exaggeration" generally.

All the same, I think that Lesse Luthor will look fine in a suit and with a haircut.

Here's the thing about Lex's physicality that many are overlooking. In a scenario where Superman looses his powers, you should to be able to think that Lex could challenge him in a fight, and he probably would, and that's something I really had my heart set on, just for Luthor to prove to Superman that he can take him. That being Luthors arrogance that initiated such macho thinking of course.

I'm trying to make sense of you guys ridiculous rules on Lex Luthor's casting. I've seen it said that Lex should look like he could beat up Superman and I'm asking does Cranston look like he could beat up Henry Cavill?

And ends up with Kal breaking Luthor's neck.

Wait, that could actually happen, seeing what happened at the end of MoS. Or, it could go TDKR and have Eisenbeurg mind-control Kal and beat up Bruce. Lex is a genius, anyway.

And isn't this film based on TDKR?

Not everyone wanted Cranston. I don't even think Lex should look like he can beat up Superman since that's absurd regardless. I just like the idea of him being an evil Bruce Wayne of sorts, a flesh and blood guy who's pushed himself to the peak of human potential in more ways than one. I don't think that's what we're getting, so I'll just have to wait and see how it turns out.
