BvS Jesse Eisenberg IS Lex Luthor - Part 9

He comes across as incredibly condescending even in normal conversation. But here he just seems contemptuous of the entire "comics" culture that he is currently partaking in and getting a very healthy paycheck for.

Like he's doing a comic book film but seems absolutely repelled by comic book fans in every way. Why do it then?

I have a feeling that if Affleck and Terio and Adams were not aboard, he would never even have considered doing this movie. You get the sense that he thinks he's above this sort of material. He would rather do an indie that no one will ever see.

We have some seriously talented actors/actresses doing these comic book movies nowadays. Why the heck would he think he was above it?

Being a fan of comic books isn't exactly high on the priority list when it comes to playing these characters. Ledger didn't pick up a comic book until he was cast as The Joker, and even when all was said and done his interpretation of the character was not a straightforward derivative of the source material. His biggest influences were Sid Vicious and A Clockwork Orange's Alex, two people/characters whose origins are not rooted in comic books. In short, he made this Joker his own thing. He didn't burden himself with seventy years of baggage.

Jesse Eisenberg is playing Lex Luthor as interpreted by Terrio and Snyder. He really doesn't owe allegiance to any other version of the character besides the one laid out to him in this script. Signing onto the film because he found the character and the script interesting is just as reassuring as if he had signed on because "OMIGOD I've always wanted to play Lex Luthor because he's my favorite comic book character!"

It's great when some actors are fans. It's great that Ben Affleck is a huge Batman fan, and that Amy Adams has wanted to play Lois Lane since she was a girl. But this is just an added bonus. It's not a prerequisite.

He's always been kind of socially awkward. He really is them male equivalent of Kristin Stewart. If I were sitting between those two goddesses, I'd be grinning ear to ear the whole time.

I think you meant the female equivalent...:cwink:

Fair enough. But he doesn't have come off so condescending about the culture.

At the same time, I guess you could say he's perfect as Lex. Haha.

He clarified his remarks regarding the genocide comment.

“I of course was using hyperbole to describe the sensory overload I experienced. I sometimes do employ that,” Eisenberg explained to AP later on Tuesday. “I’m a normal person who has normal sensory experiences, so Comic-Con was very overwhelming for me. That said, it was really an honor to be on that end of such jubilation.”

Ah, damage control, was wondering how long it would take. :woot: I'm pretty sure I experienced an even worse ''sensory overload'' at a Motörhead gig a few years back, but if I told my foreign friend who lost half of his family in an actual genocide, that the experience was like genocide I'm pretty sure we wouldn't be friends anymore. :oldrazz:

But *****ey Lex is *****ey. :woot: Still in character. Such a hardcore method actor this Jesse. :cwink:

I love how everyone is complaining about how he is acting but I'm loving every second. It's just...Lex

For those who are complaining about Eisenberg as Lex, I think he would have reacted like this if he was an extrovert. :oldrazz:

Though I will say, I find the cast to be amazingly like their characters ;)

Amy Adams is plucky and honest, Ben Affleck is intellegent, affable, and serious, Henry Cavill is smiley and has that kind of "aww shucks" quality, and Gal is very regal and friendly.

Indeed, and a fresh approach is often a very welcome thing.

Well I sure hope that Lex is also in BvS because I didn't see him in the trailers so far. :o

I'm happy with Eisenberg as Lex and Leto as Joker, would love to see them in the same movie.

I want them in some scene together. Just realized this has never happened in a live action movie till now, since we are in a shared universe now, we can get to see Lex and Joker in one scene !

I have no problem with what he said or how he acts. He doesn't have to love comic book movies or enjoy thousands of people screaming at him. He's an actor, not a rock star. He wants to act, not be mobbed by fans. Be happy he was really excited for this character especially since he wasn't a huge fan coming in, but rather one who respects the writing in front of him rather than just fulfilling a childhood dream.

I was also thinking about that. It's great, because the little cameo we get of each character in their respective trailers hints that they both have enormous egos, and they would hate each other.

Luthor has always hated Joker, but when they get together he tries to condescendingly appease him since he knows how he gets when he's slighted.

Yeah, but I somehow sense that the dynamic between these two would be particularly spiky. Lexenburg seems like an arrogant little prick, while its hard to imagine LeJo forbearing from murdering anyone in the room with him!

Clown prince of Crime meets the greatest criminal mastermind ? :sly:

I think this version of Lex is manipulative and likes to pull strings behind the scenes, which is why he can use Joker for some of his clandestine operations while Joker double crosses him in the end.

Something about what we have seen of LeJo (love that reg) and Lexenberg makes me feel they would have the same appraisal of each other: "I like this guy. I think I'll kill him last." ;)

So, um, the hair? Are we really getting yet another wig wearing Luthor? Really?

Hopefully, within the narrative of the film, it won't be a wig, and he will loose his hair, as opposed to just hiding his baldness.

Not that I care about seeing him loose his hair, or knowing how/why, I just don't want more ****ing wigs.

I'd prefer, if anything, the hair loss was to his work/research to destroy Superman. Prolonged exposure to, or in the "creation" of (if the rumours are true) Kryptonite, would be the was to go, if anything.

It's just a weird choice, as it's not something that I think needs to be made into something. He doesn't need extra reason's to hate Superman, and loosing his hair due to his efforts to destroy him, while slightly poetic, is a pretty pathetic comeuppance, if you will.

It's a weak thing to turn into a plot point, basically, buy I'd much rather see that than wigs yet again.

In other words....I am just like the dork I often portray...People were noisy, and being the sensitive soul that I am, hearing thousands of people clapping and shouting their love for me made me think about widespread death and destruction....because I am as I said.....sensitive.
