Comics aren't jerks off stage, they are just sick of people coming up to them with their friends and telling them to do a bit. I've hung out with a lot of comedians, from unknown to very famous and almost all of them are good people. But they want to be treating like people when they're off stage, not like dancing monkeys. As far as stand up goes, it's a tough business and if you really think you're good and you want to go for it then do it but I'm telling you right now, you're gonna bomb a lot at first. That's only gonna give you better rythm and help you write better jokes. You'll start seeing a lot of stuff differently and you're gonna need to be flexible with your routine because what works in one city might not work in another. Also, don't do it for the money, it'll probly take 10 years of you building a name for yourself before you're even considered on the map. And that just means you'll be selling out auditoriums, not that you'll have a sitcom or be a big actor or something. If it's something you're interested in though I say do it, but it's a tough business so be prepared for it
