JL Casting Call Update

:funny:

Jay Baruchel vs. the JUSTICE LEAGUE?!
UPDATE: I’m reliably informed that the film is still set for 2009, I’m guessing the 2010 date was an error on the part of the paper or actor.

The guy you see to the left, with “Hilary Swank version” resting on his shoulder, is Jay Baruchel. You might recognise him from films such as MILLION DOLLAR BABY and THE RULES OF ATTRACTION. He’s also a proud member of Club Apatow. Baruchel is usually good value in whatever he’s in. However we’ve yet to see him in a big-budget action film, something like JUSTICE LEAGUE/AMERICAN HEROES. Well, we might not have to wait too long.

A friend of mine in Canada was telling me about an interview with Baruchel in today’s Le Journal de Montreal, a French language newspaper that circulates in North America. Baruchel talked a bit about his next project, something he’s just flown to Australia for to start two weeks of rehearsals.

The whole article, which you can read here, is in French but loosely translated here’s the part that relates to the JUSTICE LEAGUE:-

“He’s been chosen by Warner to star in the next big fantasy action film, scheduled for 2010. The highest budgeted project produced by the Burbank studio, a secret for the moment.”

The JUSTICE LEAGUE had been scheduled for a 2009 release but could the WGA strike be having repercussions on the studio’s production plans? Maybe they will shoot everything they can early next year, wait for the writers to get things resolved, rewrite the script and then go back and finish it? Or perhaps the 2010 date is to leave more time for post-production?

In terms of the part he’s playing, my initial thought was that Baruchel would be one of the Flashes. It’s already been somewhat confirmed that Adam Brody is playing Barry Allen, but there still hasn’t been much talk about who will play Wally West.

However a little bit of extra research brings up this article from TriggerStreet which claims that Baruchel just left Dreamworks’ SHE’S OUT OF MY LEAGUE to play a villain in the JUSTICE LEAGUE.

Rumours have Maxwell Lord and Talia Al Ghul (to be played by Teresa Palmer) as the baddies the DC heroes must team up to defeat, along with whispers of the Man of Steel going all SUPERMAN III at one point.

So what role is the KNOCKED UP star playing? And if he’s in Australia for rehearsals then doesn’t that pretty much confirm all the cast is locked? Boy, this film certainly brings up an awful lot of questions!

If he is Lord , i pity him , Miller and Warner from the wrath of the fans :o :funny:

that is load of crap, miller already said that the writers guild strike isnt affecting JL, which totally devalidates the article. Not to mentioned its been said Adam Brody's playing Wally West

There has been a flurry of speculation in the past few weeks about possible casting choices for the Warner Brothers project currently in development, THE JUSTICE LEAGUE, the George Miller (MAD MAX, BABE) directed live-action feature film based on DC Comics' "Justice League of America." Names circulating around Hollywood and on the web include Adam Brody as the Flash, Common as the Green Lantern, Scott Porter as Superman/Clark Kent, and several others. We have

Adam Brody rumored to be the Flashword from several sources that another name may be missing from this list -- Jay Baruchel (UNDECLARED, KNOCKED UP, MILLION DOLLAR BABY and the upcoming FANBOYS and TROPIC THUNDER) who was previously reported to be attached to star in DreamWorks' "SHE'S OUT OF MY LEAGUE," has walked from that project, to be.... a villain?!?

Common as Green LanternSo which bad-guy would he bring to the screen? Lex Luthor? The Joker? Dr. Light or Mirror Master? If this rumor is true, it would be interesting to see how he plays a crook -- it would be an understatement to say that this is somewhat of a departure from the roles Baruchel has played in the past. Go rent KNOCKED UP or I'M REED FISH and then imagine Baruchel being an evil villain. It could be a great opportunity to flex some acting muscle and show audiences a side of him that we've never seen before.

Scott Porter as SupermanVariety recently said of the story, "[The] feature film is bound to include some combination of DC's most iconic superheroes, although the studio wouldn't confirm which ones they might be. Since its inception in 1960, JLA has featured almost every major hero in the DC Comics universe, although the core team has largely remained the same: Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Flash, Green Lantern and Martian Manhunter. The heroes typically band together to fight alien menaces or groups

My guess : some people misunderstood what the guy is up to

Jim Field Smith to direct 'League'
Jay Baruchel to star in DreamWorks comedy
By TATIANA SIEGEL
Smith

Jim Field Smith has been tapped to direct the romantic comedy "She's Out of My League" for DreamWorks, with Jay Baruchel attached to star.
Based on a spec by Sean Anders and John Morris, story centers on an average guy who starts dating an extraordinarily beautiful woman who is "way out of his league." He must overcome his insecurities and the suspicions of his friends and family before he sabotages the relationship and loses her forever. Tim Dowling ("Coxblocker") is penning a rewrite.

Eric Gold and Jimmy Miller are producing.

DreamWorks has scheduled an early 2008 start date.

Smith, a member of popular British sketch group the Dutch Elm Conservatoire, helmed the shorts "Where Have I Been All Your Life?," starring Imelda Staunton, for BBC Films and "Goodbye to the Normals." "League" marks his feature directorial debut.

Baruchel, whose credits include "Knocked Up," "Million Dollar Baby" and the TV series "Undeclared," is shooting the Ben Stiller-helmed comedy "Tropic Thunder."

Scribe Dowling has several projects in development at various studios including "Outsourced" at Columbia Pictures and "Born to Rock" at Paramount Pictures.

Smith and Dowling are repped by Endeavor. Baruchel is handled by CAA.

Yea that guy better not be Max Lord. Then the whole brody as barry not wally is probably a mistake too. Hopefully in a few weeks we might finally know who is who and all that.

Word on the street is that they’ve been mulling over a possible title change for the upcoming Justice League movie, and while I agree that the phrase “Justice League” may seem a bit dated and corny for modern audiences, it’s hard to imagine it being called anything else. Foolishly I had assumed that the motivation behind a new name had something to do with removing the patriotic connotations. Imagine my surprise when I heard that the new title may actually end up being American Heroes!
At the moment, this is still unconfirmed (along with just about everything else we supposedly know about the flick), but the scoop is said to have come from an interview with Christian Bale on Australian radio where he said he has “nothing to do with American Heroes, and their Batman will be different to our Batman''

Justice League To Be Called American Heroes?

It seem that Baruchel has indeed been cast in the league ,the interview is real ..:o

Jay Baruchel.

i know that but no sorry , you didn't read the whole article.

he talked about it in his interview it seem.

Maybe i misunderstood what you were saying and you were making fun on the probability that he is indeed cast.

if that's the case sorry.

dunno why but i am not exactly laughing right now :csad: :woot:

JL is supposed to be out in 2009, isn't it?

Either baruchel or the the site made a mistake.. imdb is a bible for a lot of people :whatever: maybe that's the place hey found their information..

If he is indeed Lord imo Miller and Warner has dropped the ball and the movie will be a comedy.

maybe i am overreacting but i can't see the logic in casting him in as the bad guy role for this movie.

theory people , nothing more...

lol Funny coincidence isn't it?:hoboj:

She's Out of My League hasn't actually started filming yet though.

Me neither but then again i haven't seen the casting sessions and maybe he did deliver a great screentest for whatever role he landed (which still hasn't been confirmed)?? Who knows...

Keep in mind that besides comedies like Knocked Up Baruchel has had turns in dramas like Almost Famous and Million Dollar Baby. Probably the most experienced of the current 'confirmed' JL cast members.

Yup retro ,i know that .

and he was touching in some moment of Million dollars baby.

but he was also (in a way) a comic relief.

Seriously nothing indicate in what he does that he could do a serious Maxwell Lord part neither physically or in his acting.

Keaton was heavily criticised as a choice when he was cast as Batman but he had already played troubled , dark , dangerous characters ( Clean and Sober , even in some ways Touch and go )

Not a bad idea :yay: but Too late Dotten :o :csad: :woot: lol

dunno i'm expecting really the worst now..

Hoping to be wrong ,we'll see..

I'm always too late :(

My cast:

Max Lord: David Duchovny
Batman: Richard Armitage
Superman: Have no idea. Go for Routh. No one will ever fill the cape after Reeve anyway. But I would prefer someone looking a bit older then Routh.
Wonder Woman: Find some hot woman (note; Not hot girl. Hot woman)
The Flash: Ryan Reynolds (too late there too :( )
Green Lantern: Common looks ok. Or maybe Richard T. Jones (Judging Amy)
Aquaman: Gerard Butler
Talia: Some hot looking woman here too.
Old The Flash: Mel Gibson :D (hehe, I have no idea. But I want Gibson in some manner in this movie)
Martian Manhunter: Clive Owen.

Bale, Routh, Welling, Keaton, Kilmer, Clooney and Cain all need to have cameos. Clooney can fall down an elevator and die. Or have MM shapeshift into each one of them.

True but like i said; it's not confirmed who he's playing.:cwink: And if he is Maxwell Lord it would be a big surprise and slightly disappointing since in my mind i really couldn't see anyone else but a big (older) name for that role.

Swapping Gibson and Duchovny could work.

Morena Baccarin for WW.
