JL Casting Call Update

Again, that tidbit could be based on the old reports of him being cast.

It could be.... or it could be based that if this movie does get made.... Hes Batsy...

Yea thats what alot of people think what reports about jla come out saying gale, hammer, brody, common, etc..... because technically jla doesnt have a cast since the delay back in jan. Yes gale and common are hoping the film still happens and are asked back to the film and same with brody too but the rest we have no clue if wb/dc wants the others back at all. Hopefully we hear some solid official news soon.

Well, it appears that Santiago Cabrera is indeed playing Aquaman, at least according to an article in a Chilean newspaper. Unfortunately, I don't speak spanish so I don't know what it reads exactly, but a screenshot of the article can be found at the link below. If anyone can translate that for us, that would be great.

Edit: Article is in the online edition of the paper linked below. Click "Secciones", then "Espectaculos". Page over once to see the entire article. I'm unable to extract it. Hopefully someone with better skills can do so.

My Spanish isn't half as good as my English, so I did my best.
The first part:
It's the big cinematographic project that will bring to the big screen the adventures of the Justice League, the DC comic-book that gathers the best of its superheroes gallery and will have an estimated budget of 200 million $.
Santiago Cabrera, the actor who portrayed Isaac, the painter who could see the future, in the first season of the Heroes series, that was aired here on Mega, was cast for the movie.
Cabrera will take on the role of Aquaman, the ecological superhero who can breathe underwater and speak with the aquatic creatures.
The news of his casting came to him directly from the mouth of the director of the movie George Miller (Happy feet and the Mad Max trilogy). The filmmaker called him personally on the phone, after seeing his test screen for the movie.
“Listening to him talk of his vision, of the reasons why he wants to do this movie, of the world he wants to create around this characters won me over immediately” comments from Los Angeles the actor regarding his first impression. And adds that “being part of a project of such a scale could be a big step in the career of any actor”.
After being cast, Cabrera flew to Sidney in December, to take part of a pre-production meeting with cast and crew “a cargo de la cinta en pleno” (in charge of the movie?).
“The experience was incredible. Being surrounded by greats of the cinema, as are the makers of the movie, was very impressive. Besides seeing live the work behind a megaproduction like this one.
A movie with a budget of more than 200 milion $ is really something at another level from anything I've done before” he declares about the experience.
In the movie the actor will share credits with the star of the OC series, Adam Brody (Flash), The rapper Common (Green Lantern) and other superheroes (see the box).

Thanks Antonello. Here's both halves of the article.

Nice article. And thanks for the translation, Antonello. :yay:

Would love to know more about Millers vision for this movie.

Yea it does look like he was indeed aquaman but that was all before the delay back in jan. So who knows who in the pre delay cast will indeed be back for the film or if certain roles will get recast. I could live with him as Aquaman really counts on what version of the character they were/are to use in the film. As for the other actors i just want to see batman and superman roles recast with better suited people.

So it's possible that his contract has expired like everyone elses?

Everyones contract expired back in jan when the film was officially delayed. So in reality if wb and or miller want they can hire everyone back or they can recast every role.

I'm hoping for the latter....

We all know that the actors technically aren't under contract at the moment. But it should be clear to everyone that they're most likely all gonna return, if Miller dosn't leave. And since there are no articles that say it's likely that Miller walks off, i don't think it's neccecary to remind everyone who comments on the cast, that it's still possible that it'll change. Btw, if Miller would drop JLA, it would IMO be save to say that it would be the movie's death...

Cause the reason JL is (still) supposed to happen is that WB needs it as their 2009 tentpole. And if Miller would leave, it should be impossible to get it out next Summer. Of course, this wouldn't neccessarly be the permanent death of the movie, but as for the next few years for sure...

Unfortunately you could be right. On the other hand I have lost faith in Miller and that worries me.

Personally, i really think the reasons why people worry about what Miller will make out of this movie, are nothing that indicates in any way how this movie is going to turn out. (good or bad) But if one chooses to judge on that, that's of course his or her choice...

Yes they all could be asked to return but hopefully wb is looking at all the fan not liking the cast and recast some(more so superman and batman roles) the rest i and others probably could live with the rest staying. We just need better supes and bats.

Yeah, i know that you and others don't like the cast and i also know that you hope they do some recasting, but does every comment on the cast Miller choose have to be used to state that again?

Well i am fine with brody, common and gale. I have no feelings on the guy who was to be MM. And heroes guy could work as aquaman just really counts on what version/look they want to go with him. Really the crapper on the cast is the then casting of cotrona and hammer as batman and superman neither have the look or presence to pull of the characters. Yes they could have done great in casting and all that but and maybe in costume they would look good. But from what we know of each they dont seem like the batman and superman types.

Well, i guess a big reasons why people keep talking about how crappy the choices for Batman and Superman are is that we don't get any other news to talk about. If we would've pics of the costumes or stuff like that by now, there we wouldn't have to debate about nothing else than Hammer and Cotrona all day...

True to bad we havent got any other news official or not. Would have been nice to see pics of the costumes getting worked on, pics of set pieces, etc. But with hammer and cotrona really i dont see the general public taking hammer and cotrona serious. If us comics fans dont like them i dont think the general public will either. I have nothing against them as actors never seen any of their works but like i have said and other they are just not the right people for superman and batman. We all know they want a cheap cast to help keep the budget down and use money on other things but come on there is tons of better suited known and unknown actors who could look and give off the presence of the characters better then these two.

I don't think you can tell what the general public will think when they see the movie, based on what we fanboys think at the moment. Hell, you can't even tell what fanboys will think when the see the movie based on that...

Yeah yeah, and people also said Daniel Craig just wouldn't be right for Bond based on his look and crap like that. And then the guy was in one of the best Bond movies ever, gave an awesome performence and now the same people are saying he's the best Bond since Connery.

We all know they want a cheap cast to help keep the budget down and use money on other things but come on there is tons of better suited known and unknown actors who could look and give off the presence of the characters better then these two.
Like i said many times before, height or age aren't the most important factors that make an actor suited for a role, acting performence is. If they give a great performence and the movie is great, nobody will ask about that stuff anymore. And do you really think Miller choose those guys randomly? He saw all the actors, they could've gotten. And there surely where actors who looked more like Supes or Bats. So, why do you think Cotrona and Hammer got the parts? Cause Miller is stupid and wants the movie to suck? Sure...
