Joe Fridays Now on Myspace

Seriously? 'Cause I don't get much of a courteous spirit from Joe Q's own trash talk against DC. It seems notably harsher than the harmless ribbing of Stan Lee's day to me.

What are you talking about? He goes on, and on about how much he likes Morrison, and how great he thinks his Crisis is going to be.

Yeah, I'm not seeing anything that stands out as "harsh" to me. Not here, and not in previous interviews.

Joe Q struck me as overly caustic in past bragging sessions about Marvel over DC. But I guess Joe Q strikes me as overly caustic almost all the time.

Just because I don't follow this stuff, who is he referring to?

Haha, wow, Fraction sure got pissy about it. Welcome to the kind of stuff other entertainment industries have been dealing with for years, I guess.

That's what I was thinking. He actually dropped a few cool points in my book, and I love me some Fraction.

Marvel_B0y, a guy who works for Marvel and loves to leak stuff on his blog, but whom no one can actually catch. They shut down his LiveJournal blog recently, but he got another one up and put backups of his posts up:

Be warned that he posts spoilers all over and doesn't really warn you of them, so you may not want to read too much.

Yeah, it's established. Fraction is a mother****in' G!

Well, if you want to get really technical, it wasn't Morrison's idea to call it "Final Crisis." But, yeah. Pots and kettles.

He's definitely right. There's a Crisis every time I turn around and on top of that, each one always features the death of several major characters or the discontinuation and/r recontinuation of their respective titles. This time "Batman is going to die." I don't even read any non-vertigo DC titles other than Batman, because everyone else is so hard to keep up with.

Same here.

Things at DC really aren't any harder to keep up with than things at Marvel. I'm betting Xof is just more invested in Marvel already and doesn't want to bother getting to that level of familiarity with DC. Not that I blame him, given how a lot of DC's comics are right now...

Yes, they are. Or, they can be. It depends on how much you want to invest yourself, like you said. If you wanna stick with the done in ones that Dini does on Detective, that's fine. But if you want to jump into the bigger picture, forget about it.

All right, I'm not gonna attempt to quantify or compare the two to death or anything. But if you want to jump into the event-driven major comics at Marvel, you've gotta do a lot of reading too. Pick up an issue of Avengers: The Initiative cold and you'd have no idea what the Initiative is, how it came about, what purpose it serves, where all the politics surrounding it in the book come from, why the New Warriors hate it, what the New Warriors have to do with it in the first place, etc. There's a learning curve to everything. I personally don't think the ones for Marvel and DC's central comics are really that far apart. Granted, I'd be more willing to try it in Marvel's case because of the aforementioned state of many of DC's books right this minute. :o

Yeah. Until then, there's no question that Marvel's books are much easier to jump into than DC's.

Well, before this new countdown, before that "1 Year Later" (because I read the old countdown from start to assumed finish) stuff, I was reading:

Batman
Blood of the Demon
Green Arrow
Trying to get into (Superman and the Flash)
I got into the Seven Soldiers for a while
I even tried following Dr. Fate
Sometimes I picked up JLA
I've been really interested in Black Adam since the original countdown maxi-series and was excited with what they were proposing that they were about to do with Jimmy Olsen and Mary Marvel.
And "Wonder Woman"...well, I don't know what the hell was going on there!

But see, Etrigan was killed in his own title (from what I gathered) and last time I heard, he was spotted in Outsiders or something like that.

Then they killed Green Arrow or something, before/after switching the title to Green Arrow/Black Canary.

They killed one Flash, then I thought there were two or something like that, but now Barry Allen is back? Or is it Wally West? Or have both of them returned. I lost track after that "All Flash" thing.

Plus I keep forgetting to pick up the title with the new Dr. Fate and the new countdown couldn't hold me long enough.

With Vertigo?

"Fables" is still there and now there's "Jack of Fables", plus "Loveless" is lovable too. I thought "Hellblazer" had been canceled, but I guess it's still running. However, I do miss "Lucifer" and was really loving the work being done on "Books of Magick: Life During Wartime" (which helped "The Sandman" peak my interest in Constantine and also made Zatanna seem a lot cooler.)

So yeah, DC handled my attention pretty roughly outside of Vertigo.
