I think its spectacularly ******ed that they make these books for an adult audience and then want to do something this childish. I also don't understand why people are so easy going about this. I thought banning things was supposed to be kind of bad? Yes, smoking is harmful and if children see images of people smoking they will be likely to try it themselves and turn to casual sex for answers, but isn't putting an outright ban on something like smoking a little extreme and a little old school?
I'm not promoting smoking as a lifestyle choice, I look down on addicts of any kind (they're dumb and usually listen to metal) but this ban is degrading to me. Of course no one turns the page wet with excitement hoping The Thing will have a cigar in his mouth on the next panal, but that is an established trait of Ben Grimm that relates to his origins as a tough East Side thug and its stupid to take it away now just because telling readers what to think about smoking currently gives Quesada a rager.
I'd rather the old ban on mentioning homosexuality be put back in place instead of this trivial crap, because at least that would be a reflection of trying to get back on track to real superhero stories and not the hand drawn celebrity tabloids that Marvel are trying to pass as "mature" comics today.
The mainstream titles do seem to be aimed more at adult audiences these days. If they weren't, Marvel Adventures and Power Pack and all that other kid-friendly stuff probably wouldn't exist. Still, the official word on all of Marvel's publishing line other than MAX stuff is that it's all-ages.
Don't front like you don't love Dazzler.
Close thread.They're not bad.
