He was gay in the Dark Knight Returns. He called Batman "darling".

No. He was in Arkham all chilled out, and he heard about Batman's return on the news and something snapped in his mind because of hearing that name aafter 10 years.
He calls him darling from then on, because he's become even more insane.

Sorry. I thought this was true, but a lot of people were saying he is gay in this interpretation. He certainly looked it.

I cant say there is direct evidence of a 'gay joker' in DKR, but there definitely was an effeminate element to the character, in clothes, facial expressions, dialogue and poses.

Would people object to the prospect of Joker's chemicle accident only bleaching his skin, and he then colors his hair and wears red lipstick? This could possibly bring a little more "realism" to the character, however I'm not sure if people would like it if he didn't emerge from the ooze looking like the Joker we all know, and instead evolved into his comicbook self over a few scenes.

...He's tall, skinny, lanky, pointed chin, big nose...

he's...

...CHRISTOPHER ECCLESTON

...and i vote him for Joker:p

I like that idea, i heard of it a while ago when i read my Mythology book, by alex ross. And it was Ross, who wrote that he beleives that only jokers skin was bleached by the chemicals, and that his hair lost colour ..........and the dye/lipstick was added on later by the joker himself to complete his character. I do like this better, it makes sense and is very realistic.

Lachy Hulme

Why is Jim Carrey's name on the list? since he played The Riddler in Batman Forever
wouldn't be confusing to people?

Hulme or Depp would be pretty safe choices. But it greatly depends on how big the actor's grin is. Also, whoever plays him, I think that they should have him wear prosthetic teeth so that he'll have the huge toothy smile that we all know from the comics and cartoons.

I just took names from The Joker thread. I wouldn't want Jim playing Joker either. He'd camp it up and make the audience confused.

There are 2 people that I'd be scared $#!+less if I were locked in a room with them and that's Steve Buscemi and Tim Roth...

...I think Tim Roth would make a magnificant Joker.

Since you left my three top choices off the poll and neglected to put an "Other" option I shall declare this poll inadaquate.
Willem Dafoe:

and the fact that he was in Spiderman is not a good reason for him to be excluded, especially since he looks exactly like the Joker, is one of the best actors in the world and has said he wants to play other comic book villains.

I actually prefer the story of the Joker being changed by the acid completely, because I really wouldn't like to see such a cool villain like the Joker apply lip stick.

oh yes,i totally forgot about Willem Dafoe...
well he was Green Goblin, but I'll be happy to see him playing Joker.

Yeah. Who gives a **** wether he was in another comic book movie? People still want Jude Law for the Riddler, even though he was in Road to Perdition. And I've seen a lot of support for Michael Keaton as Jigsaw, despite the Burton Batman movies.
