You know who is an awesome candiate that I never even thought of. There are two actually. The first is Zach Braff, the lead character from scrubs. He may be a little short (the joker is suppossed to be six five) but if you have seen either scrubs or Garden State you know he is an amazing actor, and I am sure he would have the range to be be evil and manachial. The second is Andy Garcia. He is always capable of being evil. He may be a little old if they want to keep the Joker aroudnd, but he still looks in his thirities. He is one of the best actors to date. He could also play another crime boss (I forget the other major crime family in Gotham) or even Harvey Dent, but he may be a little old. Just a thought, give me your thoughts.

I think Zach Braff looks way too young for this role. He´s 30, but he looks younger then this, like in the early 20s. I don´t think they can change this with make up and stuff. But I do think he´s very talented though.
Garcia would be a nice choice for a part of one of the mafia families, like you said, one of the crime bosses, I couldn´t see him as the Joker though.

I don't know why I just don't feel Chrisitan is right. I don't think I could ever take him seriously enough as the Joker, he looks the part but the way he carries himself on screen, I have a bad feeling about what his Joker would be like.

In my opinion they need a weighty performance, as Bale is so very seriously in tuned to what Batman.

THey need someone who can be insane and yet at that same time increadibly convinceing and appealing. J depp could do it but agian I woryy about the weight of the performance.

Glover would just feel to comical at times to me to airy. Jack was more a cartoon then crazy man when you look back on it, evil for sure but there was no sense of dread with him on screen.

The thing I loved about Retruns was hey Penguin gave off dread Devito's performance was just comic book enough but there was a true vile sesne of dread with him on screen, not so much a what is he going to do next feel you got with Joker, as a feeling of disgust.

JOKER IS THE MOST VILE SOCIOPATH IN THE PAGES OF COMIC BOOKS. If Batman Begins is what I feel it will be this is the kind of Joker they will need.

i don't like Balk though....because it always seems like she is playing the same roles over and over again. She is ugly also....IMO....she looks dirty....ugh. I would rather see Brittany Murphy be Harley.

i love Depp as an actor....but the Joker role would be too close to his Wonka performance wouldn't it?? It would interesting to see what Penn, Depp and Law would bring to the film. These actors should be looked at first. If not them...then the second tier choices should be looke at......Rockwell, Cassell, Hulme, Glover.

I'm not sure exactly who I'd like to see in the role. There are a few very good choices. But one thing I'm sure of is that they are not going to top Jack Nicholson in terms of charismatic showboating, so they shouldn't even try.

I saw go for a copmletely different approach. A common misconception about The joker is that h'e funny. He's NOT funny. The guy should be really scary. So, rather than going with the crimelord route of the Tim Burton film, I say make him into a vile, psychotic killer - as extreme as you can get away with in a 12A movie.

Once you've got that interpretation straight, the casting choices could rise out of that.

Depp as Joker is really starting to grow on me now. When i write down the potential cast for the sequel and write Depp down compared to the others.....it just feels right ya know? Plus I'm sure most of us have always wanted him to be in a Batman feature film....and you know Nolan would be able to bring him onboard. Then get Liev Schrieber as Dent in a supporting role.....Brittany Murphy possibly as Depps lovey pooh Harley Quinn....and then Beckinsale as Talia in a mysterious background role and bam! Another awesome cast for the awesome sequel!

Hey, not trying to kill anyone's buzz on here, but I wanted to weigh in on the Joker. I really hope that they go with someone thats not in this poll. Most of the options are decent, but none of them strike me as "Wow, I could really see him doing the Joker extremely well." I trust that whoever they cast will do a great job, be it someone on this list or some unknown. That being said, I love coming in to casting threads and hearing peoples reasons behind casting a certain actor. Keep it up guys.

Tim Roth is too melancholy looking. And Lachy Hulme's face isn't built right for it. I go with Jude Law. Might I remind everyone of his character in Road to Perdition? Silent, but creepy nonetheless.

Also, I think it would be cool, but I doubt it would work, Benicio Del Toro, just cause he looks kind of joker like except the eyes.

Joker should NEVER be able to even stand a CHANCE against Batman when it comes to hand to hand combat (no weapons). Joker was never a physical fighter...he fights with his sadistic brain...not his muscles.

he doesn't even speak in the movie... i couldn't understand for years why he was in this movie.. i remeber seeing Superman 2 on tv and then i was like "wtf.... Jean Pierre Cassel??????? what the hell is he doing in this movie?????"
I now think he was hired by Richard Lester because he was the king in Lester's "three musketeers"

I saw "Sin City" this weekend (twice - what a great movie). Anyway, there is this scene where Dwight and Jackie Boy are in a car together. And all throughout this scene, I couldn't even focus on the conversation. All I could think was "Oh my God - Benecio Del Toro IS THe Joker!"

Now, because of his approach to blockbuster fare - much like Sean Penn - I'm not sure if Del Toro would be the best choice for The Joker. But I have to say that he has entered my top shortlist for potential candidates to be The Joker.
