the more I'm seeing glover, the more i hope it's not him. His name and picture is plastered all over the net... his agent must have been very busy. I'm not going to pass judgement on his acting; I've only seen him in BTTF. I do think there are a few names that are being bandied about, that could do a good job; Ecclestone(my personal favourite), i'm coming round to the idea of tim roth, bettany, elijah wood would be good, andy serkis, nick stahl after his stint as that yellow bastard , richard e grant... the list goes on and on.

One argument i don't get is the, "...he don't sound like the joker..." Right, so what does the joker sound like???

no jim carrey or jude law. Bishop33 is right. If you have ever seen willard you know that Crispin Glover has no problem portraying a Very dark and sick character. He was also the thin man in Charlie's Angels. I've heard rumors of Sean Penn .... i was thinkin about it and i remember in his movie I Am Sam he lost alot of weight and was pretty thin. I don't doubt his acting i bet he could pull off a joker.

Not like Crispin Glover. I don't think he has any one definitive voice, but the way Glover talks is totally contradictory to The Joker's character. He's shaky and nervous and meek sounding. The Joker should be loud and bombastic. Normally I'd say laying a blanket statement like that over an actor is foolish, since the point of acting is to interpret different characters, but every role I've seen Glover in seems nearly identical to the last. He's an example of a thespian who's better at playing himself than his characters, which is a big reason why I doubt his ability.

personally i'm sick of seeing glover, and would hate if he got the role; i remember him whining, pissing and whinging, in every scene in bttf, your summary that he has no acting range puts the icing on the cake.

my point is i've heard a lot of people say that, "penn can't do it because of his voice, or law can't do it beause of his voice...etc. etc." the joker is a 2d comic character, romero gave his interpretation of the voice, nicholson his and so too hamill; who truly knows the voice of the joker, other than his creator, the deceased bob Kane.

I agree with the mentality of nailing the character, as Bale did with Batman. To me, Crispin Glover has been waiting for the role of Joker his entire life, and no performance before or after will suit him better than this.

Out of the choices that I have seen listed here, my favorites would have to be Bettany, Del Toro, Buscemi, Penn, and Roth. Until I see more of Lachy Hulme's work, I can't really form an opinion on him. I think there are a lot of good choices out there that have been mentioned either very little, or not at all. I only bring this up because the part will not likely be cast for at least 18 months, which means that the odds are good that none of the people currently "in the running" will be chosen.

A few other names I feel are worth considering are:

Dominic West- those of you who watch the HBO series "The Wire" have seen his acting chops, which are pretty good. He also has an intriguing look that would work well for the Joker.

Vince Vaughn- I know, I know, he sucked as Norman Bates, but he still has psycho potential. In terms of having Joker's charm, he is only beaten out by Depp. I'm not saying he's the best candidate, but the potential is there.

Adam Grenier- In addition to West (above), I would love to see a manip of this guy as the Harlequinn of Hate. He's got the look: tall, lanky, long face, large grin, even big lips to put that red lipstick on. He's is also a good actor, as he does a great job in the lead role of Vince on "Entourage." He can also play crazy characters, which is what he did as an acid-tripping chracter in "Harvard Man."

Why? Because he has a long face and he played a creepy guy in Willard? You have yet to give a convincing argument as to why Glover is the be all end all for the Joker.

So I was seriously contemplating on who I think should be the next Joker, when my wonderful boyfriend said hey, what about that guy from Blade. I said Stephen Dorff? Yes, omg seriously. If any of you have ever seen Cecil B. Demented, you would see how wonderfully mad this man can be. I think he would be wonderful in the role.

In most of his roles, Tim Roth has always played a very sullen character. I don't see much of the Joker in him.

Tim Roth and Jude Law would be ok. I guess.
But i'd rather an unknown.

One thing that is a MUST tho:

If there is a scene where Joker leaves Batman incapacitated/unable to follow
and the Joker leaves/escapes
wouldn't it be great if he said:

"Now... if you'll excuse me, I've got to return some videotapes."
