Joker Costume for Halloween

The long coat, Im curious whether to get the turnbull or dreamcosplay or anywhere else i dnt kno bout ... or buying the willy wonka sewing pattern and making it myself.
If you count man hours, they will prob cost bout the same for me once you change it into NZ dollars.
I was just hoping for some reviews of each so i can choose.

Also Im still struggling to find any temp green hair dye.

.. im assuming you mean the redballs joker coat not the turnbull one? lol
and, for the most screen accuracy id go for the redballs one, for the price go for the dreamcosplay one. but there are some other like here:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BatMan-The-Da...263745572QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item140263745572

also there is this coat here which looks rather nice:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/The-Dark-Knig...hash=item300256169283&_trksid=p3286.m63.l1177

now they come with everything, but im sure if u asked them nicely they would sell you just the coat...
but i would definatly go for the redballs one, cos its more like a real coat too, so u can wear it again... infact im going to sell my other dreamcosplay coat and buy a redballs one.
As for the green hair dye... i would ditch that idea, and go for the rubies wig, cos its a nice wig, and with a few adjustments it can be awesome... also if you get the wig, atleast you can keep it for another time lol.

hey Kelikala, good job on the make up, you do look like the joker nurse!

Thanks!

You're asking for a wig... so Dracomancer sent me a link a while ago which she posted here as well. You might find something decent, as some of the wigs look actually real to me. See these as a sample...

I found the perfect wig there, but they don't have it in the right color. Just my luck. I may just resort to cutting my own hair to suit my needs.

Thanks for the links though Quique! I really appreciated them!

Wow Kelikala love your make up!! Also love the fact you used all your own stuff. Going to raid my girlfriends now. I prefer the "cleaner" make up test to be honest. Some people i've seen, esspecially on youtube, tend to go over the top. It also suits your eyes, that if I may say, are quite striking. Well done!!

I really didn't want to drive 40 miles to go to a costume shop just to practice with my make-up for Hallween, hence the reason why I just turned to what I already had in my make-up box here at home. The white cream face paint was leftover from last Halloween so I didn't have to worry about buying that either. The only thing I really need to get my hands on now is some of that Rigid Collegen for the scars and I'll be set!

And thank you for the comment about my make-up! I agree with you about some people going a bit overboard with the make-up. If you can do it good with little effort ( took ten minutes to do mine ) then there is no reason to spend hours on it only to have it look overdone! A few friends actually talked me into making my own video showing how to put the make-up on with just regular cosmetics, so once I'm done editing it, I'll have it up on youtube!

You also made me blush with your comment about my eyes *^-^*
Guess it's not that often you see a green eyed Joker running amuck!

^^ Your more than welcome. Look forward to the video.

Looks like I won't be dying my trousers today. STILL can't any answers from Dylon customer services!! Lazy swines!! But I did receive my Violet paint this morning. It works better than I had dared to hope. Two coats and my once black leather gloves are now a vivid purple. Very happy with how they turned out. Had a bit of trouble painting with my left hand though.

P.S. I still have half a pot left which should cover another pair of gloves. Any of you UK jokers need any give me you address and i'll post it to ya.

Also, I have a question... I'm going as 'nurse' Joker, so does anyone have any suggestions as to where I could find the perfect red wig like he wears in the movie? If I can't find anything sutible, I may just cut about seven inches of hair off my head and just dye it green. Besides, I'm long overdue for a haircut and if I cut it, I'd donate it to Locks of Love so it wouldn't be a total loss.

Here is a fairly decent wig in my opinion, hope this helps

Back of Vest: I didn't notice till much later into the costume of him I was working on, that the back of his vest has a lined pattern. [aside from the suspenders]. the image to the right is my actual Joker vest and I took a white fabric pen and dotted line the whole thing. However I do believe the lines on the back of his vest are of a shiney slate blue? possibly....

It's shiney because the back is made from satin/silk with the pattern woven into it. The whole thing is probably the same color, but the weave makes it look different depending on the light.

Off-topic/Silliness:

Death, don't thank me. I'm just stating my opinion. As an aside, the pictures you posted several pages back, as a response to Alex Delarge? Is that... is that Alex's eyeball on your sleeve? Heathus Christ. Tell me that hasn't been there all along.

Dracomancer, you have my respect. I've never met you, but I think we used to be a lot alike when I was younger. I'm very impressed with the way you reacted in your last post. To accept opinions without agreeing with them is the sign of a fully formed person.

Lemony, you have a valid opinion. Regardless of the ethics of the situation, it just isn't relevant to the purpose of this thread.

On-topic: What has everyone found in the way of lapeled vests? Here's mine. The color is gray, even though the lighting in the second picture gives it a satisfying green tint. The front is a thick wool/cashmere texture and the back is satin.

My plan is to go hunting for a tailor this weekend and have him separate the material for me so I can re-color the fabric appropriately. Popping into Goodwill tomorrow to find some nice guinea pig pants for my experimentation.

I welcome all suggestion.
What brand does the tag say?

I really like the color of the velvet (middle), but the weight is really light...

Rob,
You may already know this, but if not, you can fix the thickness of the velvet putting interfacing between layers of the fabric. Lapels, pocket's flaps, collars and some clothing have interfacing all the way through the garment to make it thicker. Interfacing also comes in different thick/weight, you just iron it on the back of the fabric and it gives a different weight to it, so you may want to try that if you like the velvet, :)

Damn that's expensive, 40 bucks for suspenders? Time to search more.

I managed to order my new purple jacket and vest from two different cosplay sites (one from ebayUK), and I will be taking the hex pattern to a shirtmaker within the next week or two. This weekend I'll be ordering my new tie, gloves and the violet neopaque. I have quite a few options for the blue blazer, yet the best/closest matches are two button, so I may buy one and add a button myself to make it accurate. All that will remain is to hit up some shoe stores and get the chain.

If anyone wants the link to the vest:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Green-Vest-Cost...16119QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1713.m153.l1262

There are 2 left, and its as close as I could find (with TSSY removing theirs) without making it myself.
one vest left i just ordered mmine so if u need a vest u have to jump on this.............................

anybody order the suspenders i posted??!?

Also, for folks who don't think outside the box often (:cwink:), don't forget to check your local mall stores, such as JC penneys, Kohl's, Sears, etc, for curtain and drape materials...you can find nice satin and decorative patterns on those, and some will work excellent for vest backs and/or linings...and a lot are on sale this time of year!:yay:

Thanks for the tip, but yeah, I've had to do that on my other costumes in the past to stiffen them up...the problem with this particular swatch/brand of velvet, even though I really like the color, is that the knap is long, and you can actually see the back/base binding fabric under the "hairs"...it's not like a wool blend, where the weave is thick....if that makes any sense!
Rob

Great makeup!

Oh, I also found some GREAT Joker shoes http://catalog.skechers.com/s-1234567/displayProductList/M/2/9/false/popular/31571.shtml which I don't think I've seen a link to in this thead previously. They're almost dead on to the ones Heath wore in the movie, and they're not priced all that bad.

I've got these shoes, and I only paid 45 bucks for them, with free shipping. Do a Google search for discount internet store coupons, and you might luck up on a discount code, like I did for shoebuy.com...:cwink:
Rob

Come on guys i need some good pics of the back of the coat. Please post up pics of the real coat if you got them.

Sorry, Spidey...best I can do is the side shot...

It looks like it's a twin-split tail...

I'm not sure if the back of the coat has a line going down the middle, but the coat is split into three sections. One on the back, and the side panels of the coat going down on the sides. That's the best way I can describe it.

Best I can do for now :3 I have limited time cuz I have to go to work in a bit here lol.

Hey all...

Found this old Joker-inspired makeup test I did for a makeup class, thought I'd share.

Tell me what you think; I may be doing this for a Halloween party if I don't do my typical Harley Quinn. :) (Also, remember....it's Joker INSPIRED, not supposed to be dead on to Heath...)

These are the one I have, and its kinda hard to tell how the tail go.

So, I decided on getting the dream-cosplay jacket after all since it's about 100 dollars cheaper to order that than the redballs one and lord knows I shouldn't be throwing money around right now (and yet, I'm sitting online bored at work ordering expensive clothing to look like the damn Joker from Dark Knight, go figure).

I guess I'll take some photos if and when this thing arrives at my front door steps (which judging by these damn storms, wont be for quite some time now).

Also I noticed when lightening up the pic you can see the chain goes into his front pocket, eliminating the possibility that it is a wallet chain.

Because he only had "knives and lint" in his pockets, it's either a knife, or his watch (but, it is not mentioned, as we all know)...
Rob

On the coat tails: the center panel looks to be even, not a tapered shape, as you can see in the "dangling" pic above...also, the center panel looks like it lies behind the two side panels...

Alright guys I had a pretty good thrift store find. I found this 100% wool overcoat in a darker shade of grey. I need some expert advice from people who have personally dyed wool or a wool overcoat for that matter.

I am wondering if my best bet would be to use one of those color removers first or maybe even a couple times to lighten the color of the jacket first? And then do a couple dye baths of the dylon purple color?
I really don't want to ruin this jacket since it was so hard to find a jacket to fit me since I am taller.
Any advice?????

well i did mineyesterday, i got myself a large flexible tub from homebase (£14.99) and then used 2 packs of Dylon hand dye and a couple of tins of Dylon cold dye (ran out of hand dye)...

the Hand dye packs use 250g of salt each, the tins 125g each, so a 750g tub of salt will do fine (your putting the whole thing together anyhoo!)

now my coat was a wool mix (80% to 20% nylon) so i just used salt and hot water for mine and it worked... 100% wool may be different, as in the instructions it tells you to use vinegar(!!!).

wool DOES come out at least a shade lighter than on the packet so just be prepared.

also find somewhere suitable to hang it to drip dry (NOT IN A BATH IT WILL STAIN!) do not dry it on a radiator or near one as it will impair the colour.

it took 30 pints of hottest tap water to dye my coat and 750g of salt... i like the result of mine but you may want darker.

oh yeah... it helps if you weigh your coat before hand, and then wash it in cold water before you dye.
