Hi all,
I was hoping I could get a bit of help.
After much consideration and thought, I have decided against my previous plans to "retire" my Joker costume after this year. I wish to do it just one more time...but I really want to go out with a memorable costume. I'm sure that my previous posts in this thread have been lost amongst all of the new replies, but I've been steadily working on my Joker costume for roughly four years running. It started out like this:
I assembled this particular costume on a total whim one year, did the makeup myself, and for some reason people really responded to it. I even won $100 at some lame costume contest.
Years went by, and I eventually met my wondrous girlfriend, who actually knows how to apply makeup evenly and properly, got a new suit, and ended up with this year's look:
I was really happy with the way everything came together in '08...but I really want to make '09 memorable. I don't have the hair, or really the desire, to do the Ledger look. I think that the costume has pretty much been perfected (to an almost creepy degree) by many on this forum.
So I've decided to take my costume in the opposite direction, cash in on my passing resemblance to Nicholson, and go full on Jack Joker this year.
This is where my desire for help comes in. I can manage to track down the plaid pants that Jack wore on eBay with no problem, and I've got a few purple blazers lying around. However, I've reached a few forks in the road:
For one...I have no idea what type of hat Nicholson wore. I know that it's not a fedora, as I own one of those, and Nicholson's had a much wider brim. I very much would like to get a hat like Nicholson's...preferably in black. I'm going to put a dark purple band on it, and then take a black trenchcoat and have someone put matching purple lining in it for me. I feel like I SHOULD know what kind of hat Nicholson wore, but for the life of me, I can't think of what it's called.
Also, I'm very interested in doing the "permasmile" that Nicholson had. I've seen some type of prostetic kit pop up on eBay in the past, however it was very cheap, and I wasn't sure of the quality of the product, much less the effort involved in applying it. Does anyone have any ideas whatsoever?
The permasmile thing isn't a must for me. I mean, if it's impossible to do, then I'll accept it. However, I very much want to be as close to screen accurate as possible this year. I never intentionally set out to do the Nicholson Joker in the past, but everyone has told me that I look like him...so I figured I'd just go all out this year. Plus, I'm a sucker for a black hat and trenchcoat on pretty much any version of The Joker. I know Nicholson switched to purple in the movie....but to be honest, I've no idea how much a purple trenchcoat would cost, and I've already got a pretty good black one for some strange reason.
Anyway, any help at all would be totally appreciated.
Also, I remember once someone mentioned that you could "seal" the green hairspray with normal hairspray. I'm very curious as to how this works. I'm not really worried about the white makeup smudging, as it was amazingly durable this past Halloween, and I've got a few more tubes of the brand that I used, so I think I can handle putting a hat on over it. However, I really don't want to take my hat off, and end up looking like a fool with totally messed up hair due to the hat. I doubt that I'd be taking the hat off very much, but I at least want to have the option to do so.
Thanks.
