Joker Costume for Halloween

ya 300$ for a shirt from sithcamaro is wicked expensive Id LOVE to have one but thats a little nuts... sixx how did udo urs!

The above shirt was done with inkjet printing, onto iron on transfers. While it gets the job done, it also turns your fabric into vinyl, because you are melting/fusing the transfer plastic into the fibers of the shirt.
If you are going with only the full jacket/overcoat look, you can probably get away with doing it this way. Otherwise, if you can to do the vest only look, your arms are going to be covered in vinyl like material. It will basically look like a plastic shower curtain.

I used as many detailed pictures as I could find, and tried to re-create each and every one of the various hexagonal designs. What you see is not my final shirt design. Or, I should say, it is the final design, but I have not yet determined which color base fabric to print over. That is why I am still waiting on the screen printers.

Alot of people have started to get just a little bit snippy around these parts.
It's funny considering a lot of you just sit on your arse and expect others to just hand it to ya on a friggin plate!

yeah, i literally had to stop responding to pms. it was getting out of hand. im all for advice and help but dont act like you are owed anything.

Hello everyone!

A friend is on these boards, and they thought I should stop in, and say hello. :yay:

Please allow me to explain the reasoning for prices, especially the vest.

As with anything I make, I do not use cheap materials. A single vest requires around 1.5 yards of wool, and around a yard of the lining material.
Now I could just go out and get a cheap cotton or poly fabric, but I like to stay true to what is worn on screen. With that in mind, the cheap route is not the way I am going. I use a gabardine wool. Heck, if they carried it in the correct colors, I'd use a super 120 or so, suiting material. But for this application, I feel gabardine wool works perfectly.

Now my costs. A single yard of gabardine wool costs me $40. $40! So for one vest, I'm already at about $60, for the wool facing alone. Then comes the lining/backing. While it is still difficult to see exactly what it looks like, I felt I found something that is very similar, for what we can actually see, so far. That is a special order material, that I pay $31 a yard for.
So for one vest, we're at about $91 in materials. That does not include interfacings, thread or buttons.

Of course, then you've got to think of the time I must spend cutting, custom sizing, and hand sewing hems. It all adds up. Plus, making costumes is what I do for a living, so I cannot afford to do it without expecting some sort of profit, to pay the bills.

99% of the vests you see out there are merely shelf bought vests, that are then just thrown in a dyebath. Of course, being that they're made in 3rd world countries, they don't cost very much, coming from a shelf of someplace like a KMart or Walmart, ect.

My clothing is on par to going to a tailor, and having them create a custom Italian suit.

About shirts, I still have no exact price that they will run. I still have fabrics sitting with the screen printers, and have not gotten any yardage back from them yet. But I shall soon.
If you were to ask me now, I can only estimate from past pieces that I have sold. I used to sell Willy Wonka shirts, that had a near exact design, and they sold from anywhere between $250-350. What can I say? That is the nature of ebay & supply & demand.
Now I have still not decided on a final fabric, to have printed. I can use a simple Kona Cotton, at $5 a yard, or I can stick with the high quality shirting fabrics, and use a Bora Bora cotton at $20 a yard.

So please understand when you see the price tag on something I sell. I'd estimate that I must've spent already $700-800 on fabrics alone, for my costume. And I still must dish out $300 for a seamless wig, with the proper receding hairline. I don't go halfway with something, or cut corners, I go and take it all the way. That is what distinguishes my costumes from the rest. I feel the proof in that is seen in any of the many costume pictures, on my website.

respect.

but sixx has said that he silkscreened his shirt. he did not use iron ons. fyi.

Exactamundo!

I'm sorry I'm not a business, if I was don't you think this BOLLOCKS would have been all over Ebay weeks ago!?

I put this costume together the best I could for the same reason you all are(well I thought you all were). I love this interpretation and I have some heartfelt respect for the guy who played him.

Oh, OK, I got ya. Then it's the other type of printer paper. :)
My mistake. I thought it was the same as what many others were doing.

Quick Questions guys? If i want to get those nasty scars should i go with Liguid latex or rigid collodion? and which one would make like wrikles and stuff?

All I know if that Deathfromabove said that the collodion kinda peels away and isn't very flexible. It warns you about re-applying it to the same spot it peeled away from, because it's kinda iffy with sensitive skin.

It still looks DAMN good, though!

I wouldn't go with either, latex is not very flexible. I used latex for my old prosthetics and they didn't move very well, they also looked like crap but thats my bad. I've only fiddled around with collodion but I think it's more suited for scars in places where a lot of movement isn't required as well. Foam latex, silicone etc seem to be more appropriate.

I see I'll probally use that next. Man I swear collodion looks really good though. i'll post some pic later

sith please dont take what i said as a bad statement...it is a little steep yes but all looks amazing..and id buy it all if i could lol. trust me if i come into extra money like that then im def going to look towards ur site for things that i can not or just dont have much paitence to make lol. the only reason why i commented was because it seems like alot to spend on ONE piece for a costume for maybe only a few days in october...but then again it can be used for years because of the quality also. great work.

Sith, do you silk screen the fabric and then make the shirts or do you silk screen the pattern onto an already made shirt? If these shirt are spot on movie quality then it looks like Im gonna have to start putting some money aside from my next few paychecks.

Well, not paper paper, just meant it in the sense that it is being fed through a printer, as a piece of paper would.

Greatwun, I am having the fabric screened first, then sewing them together. I considered the possibility of offering yards of fabric as well as finished shirts. But all that is determined by how much of it I can get.
On the other hand, I also have to worry about minimum order type deals. Once place had a minimum of 500 yards. Without having all of that accounted & paid for, ahead of time, I can't go that large.

And CT, no offense taken. I just wanted to chime in and explain just why the prices were what they were. I can understand that people forget values of different sorts of things. My auctions even state that these are meant with high end collectors in mind. It's like an exotic sports car. Lots of people would love one, but only a few can afford one. And they too have their reasons for being so costly.

As for scars, I once tried the collodion, for my Edward. It peels away too easily, in areas that require flexibility. I'm going the gelatin route, for this one.

I didn't catch it initially.
Then, on his response, the quote field got screwed up. So I thought he said that he inkjet printed it, but with a different type of inkjet transfer.
But looking back at it now, I see where the quote, from my initial post, didn't come up correct. It all looked like what he was saying.
:)

Sith, this is WesGoble from ebay. I just wanted to chime in as well and say that if you went with the $5/yard cotton, you probably have a LOT of buyers on this board. I know you probably realize that Batman (and by extension, the joker's) fans are different than that of Jack Sparrow, Sweeney Todd, or Willy Wonka. Similar to Star Wars, they are die hard. I believe that we here would do a lot to get our hands on your work. We would love to put that money to YOU... rather than fabrics. I also know you want to do YOUR best, but if that means cutting purchases back... that may not be worth it. Now, I'm really not trying to tell you how to run your business, please don't take it that way. You are obviously extremely talented, successful and experienced. BUT... by posting on this board... you are talking to your target consumers who ALL so far would do anything to get their hands on the products, but financially are not comfortable putting that cash on a shirt or vest. Just something to think on.

sixx are u going to share the image u used to silkscreen the shirts? cuz really were all clowns here...and we should all look good shouldnt we?
