Joker Costume for Halloween

This is a little off topic, but this was my "goon" costume from thursday. Its pretty simply to put together, but I think it turned out well.

"Im bettin' the boss told you to kill me as soon as we loaded the cash..."

sithcamaro: yeah, the gelatine might be the way to go. also, is that red on your lips a clown greasepaint red or a lipstick? it looks so creamy! And it's a lovely shade of nice and bloody red.

Greatwun: yes, it's SUPER ADDICTIVE. The first day I put it on I went to the gym and ran my four miles in it. I felt all bond villain. And people's reactions? Priceless!

...also, after moisturizing intensely overnight and skipping my three step skin care regime once, my red post-scar marks went away. Hooray!

AND i just noticed deathfromabove has different awesome/weird print button downs to wear with his joker costume! DAMN YOU MEN AND YOUR SUPERIOR WEIRD SHIRT PATTERNS.
(Unless death made his shirt himself in which case I shall have to mutter, "damn," and go back to glumly staring at my broken sewing machine.)

hey everybody, just got back from the IMAX version of the film, so to answer the question about the suspenders - there are little triangles on the sides, with diamonds made out of four diamonds going down the center.

the color is all the same - sort of a deep shiny emerald green. the reason some looked black and some looked green is because of the shiny material that the triangles and diamonds are made out of, and the way it catches the light.

hope this helps!

Just a smidgen off topic.

Have we considered a master list of available, online, non-auction resources for this costume effort? I figure if we had one, it would cut down on any redundant questions and time wasted.

Products, resources, makeup/costume commentary, tutorials, etc. -- that sort of thing. Treasure hunting is great, but a group effort to pen a map would be spiffy.

I thought it may be a good suggestion. I'm loving what we've collected here over time.

Coming from the GM of a 16 plex, I can say that this kind of crap makes me sick to my stomach when I hear about it. But sadly, having been a projectionist/manager for eleven years, things like this are becoming the norm instead of the exception when it comes to exhibition. And theatre owners are asking themselves why people aren't going out to the movies anymore. Blaming piracy. Blaming home entertainment systems. Horse****. It's because of lackluster management and 16 year old kids running around in the projection booth more concerned with talking on the phone, texting and what MP3's are loaded onto their ipods than they are in the presentations that they are in charge of.

The sad reality is that movie theatres offer the lowest pay of almost any job in the country. That guy upstairs running those projectors? Yeah, he's most likely making between $6.50 and $8.00 and hour. Just fifteen years ago, that same projection booth was being run by properly trained union projectionists with salaries that sometimes dwarfed those of even the General Mangers of the theatres they were rolling films in. About the only folks making a somewhat decent wage these days in theatres are the General Managers and in some cases the assistants. And of course those in corporate positions within the larger chains. It really is quite pathetic.

Also, your comment in one of your posts where you say that the GM wasn't on duty that night? Uh... their GM wasn't on duty during the midnight showings of the most anticipated film of the year?? That right there should tell you what kind of operation you are dealing with. I worked nearly 60 hours this week (and I am salaried as most GM's are, so 20 of that was my own time) in order to make DAMN sure that everything would go off without a hitch. All prints were screened in advance, we were staffed correctly and ready for any problem that cropped up. I had three PROPERLY trained projectionists that night just in case anything did happen. Honestly, sometimes things go wrong with projectors out of nowhere even when you have the best maintenance, cleaning and staff taking care of them. But anyone who truly cares about what their audience is going to experience would do everything in their power to be prepared for problems. And not even having your GM around on a huge opening like this further solidifies my opinion of AMC as a company. Most of the larger chains for that matter. And the sad part of that is that they have the largest market share of any of the US chains. They can afford to pay more in order to get quality employees and presentation. But what AMC and Regal and chains like them have done is built themselves a reputation over the years (90's, early 2000's) of good customer service and great presentation that they have now found themselves in a position of being able to serve their patrons **** and know that most people, once set in their ways, will just continue to go where they are used to going to see movies. I watch it on a weekly basis here. My theatre (and I am not blowing my own horn... we have been judged in town as being the best) has the best projection, best customer service and best overall movie going experience in town. Yet we consistantly lose in the grosses to the AMC 24 in town. And they have the WORST of everything. But back when I was working there in the late 90's and we had a good management staff and employees who cared, we built their reputation for them. Once most of the good employees left to take better jobs elsewhere once AMC started cutting wages and firing off their marketing managers, things went to hell. But people continue to go there week in and week out because they are used to doing so and because it is in a good location.

So... good show for you, sir. Had anything like that happened in my theatre, the entire audience would have been given free passes just on the strength of the lighting cue not taking the lights down. You want to know what happened? Whoever built of that print you were watching forgot to put the proper cues on it that control the light levels, turn the projector off, etc. And it actually sounds like they just forgot the first cue that takes the lights down fully after the final trailer runs. So when someone finally brought the lights down, they punched too many cues in manually. When the cue hit as the credit starts, instead of it simply bringing the lights up to preview level so that patrons could find their way out of the auditorium, it shut the projector down and brough the pre-show ads back up. Honestly, ALL they would have had to do was restart the projector and shut the ads off. That's it. Problem solved. And the fact that the "manager" that you were dealing with didn't even know this is further proof of my above points. She most likely wasn't even projection booth trained, which used to be a part of manager certification at AMC.

It boils down to this... most theatres don't care about you. They don't care about the movies they are playing. All they care about is packing as many people into their concession stands as they can. They don't make any real money off of ticket sales. So they really, honestly do not care about you unless you are at their concession stand, which is where they do make their money. So the only way things are ever going to get better is if theatre goers start to become more discerning about where they view their films. Take a chance on other theatres until you find one that gives a ****. 3D digital is helping. IMAX is helping. But at the end of the day, if you have managers and a staff who care about what they are presenting, even a simple old 35mm presentation can be a glorious experience. Which is what film makers like Nolan and stars like Bale and Ledger deserve after having spent the time and care in making films like The Dark Knight.

So, on behalf of the jackholes you were dealing with the other night, I apologize. We all deserve better.

my hero. thank you. send me a pm so i know what chain to switch to (assuming they have one in my area).

the situation we have here is a symtom of a larger problem. apathy. no one seems to care anymore.

kudos to you for holding yourself to a higher standard than most. a few on here could learn a thing or two (even if they already hold doctorates.)

I'm going to steal you from your family and force you to wear make up on a permanent basis.

ha ha ha. just ask.:oldrazz:

and yeah i have marks on my face from the collodian. but it works so well that its worth the pain i suffer for my art. if i can find the time before halloween i might sculpt and try casting in silicone. then just stick em right to my face like they did for heath.

this was all for you heath.

with out you none of us would be here. thank you for what you have given the world and for the mutual respect we shared for the icon of the joker. i only wish i could meet you one day and shake your hand and thank you in person for what you have given me (and all us). i will continue to be inspired by your fearlessness for the rest of my days.

godspeed mate.

and i would also like to thank everyone who has helped me or anyone these past few months.

I still got Comic Con left to be the Joker. Ima go as Nurse Joker and Full Costume Joker.

Me personally you defianlly in the tops of jokers on this site. :hoboj:

you gotta be kidding me, i mentioned the suspenders a very long time ago.

sithcamaro: yeah, the gelatine might be the way to go. also, is that red on your lips a clown greasepaint red or a lipstick? it looks so creamy! And it's a lovely shade of nice and bloody red.

It's just a plain red greasepaint.

Well everyone. On a similar note. I have seen Dark Knight twice this past weekend. Spent almost all of Thursday night as the Joker and loved every sec of it. I have been down tough roads, but through out the past few months I have learned a lot more about the process of costuming. It's hard to believe this all started 4 months ago in March when I first saw the costume and knew I just had to do this costume. Then came my make up test video http://youtube.com/watch?v=W-dCwxX1-L4 and the rest is history. Thanks to everyone who helped even though, you didnt realize you were helping. I lurked in here many a time to get ideas/tips/inspiration. The past 4 months of searching on and off for the perfect costume pieces, the anticipation for the movie and all the ups and downs were well worth it. I now have one more awesome costume to bring with me to Dragoncon. If any of you happen to be @ the convention we will have to have a beer and compare notes. Toby i'm sure I will run into you at some point.
I will be lurking in here on and off for the next few weeks, but not nearly as much as I was before. Heath, may you RIP and thank you for your inspiration. Who would have thought that guy from Knights Tale could be so insane.
Thanks again to everyone for your help.

when people use red makeup to make the smudges on their paint, it looks awful!

lol some people try way too hard!

and some dont try hard enough. try taking that lip ring out next time.

oh btw how you find out about the collodian?

oh wait...

Suck up some more newbie lol, Oh and I found out about Collodion from my friend Jen that does Zombie makeup months ago, so I dont know why you mentioned that.

what is your problem?

and next time try taking that lip ring out when you wear the makeup. joker's not emo kid:hehe:.

LOL and your acting like I generalize against people, dude I am not EMO first off I dont know when there was some kind of official statement that when you have a lip ring it makes you emo, plus Ive had it since I was 14, so ya thats about 11 years pal. Im glad your trying to take a stab at me for calling out the truth in how I see it.

I just stated my opinion that the red makeup to bring out the smears looks really bad especially close up. Your makeup and outfit look great DFA but that gives you no merit to act like your the best compared to others or in your mind that you own the Joker costume threads.

I for one would rather spend my money on badass collectibles than spend $200 on a Joker coat, I did exactly what it looks like Heath's Joker would do, I went to a thrift store and picked up my stuff, Im not spending $500 or more on an outfit Ill only wear a few times a year(thought a batsuit would be different for me), I just dont have the cash.
I find it much more rewarding to come up with your own stuff close to the source material and spend ALOT less money on it.

It dosent make you a better or bigger fan because your outfit is a little more close to the source material than others, it just means you personally have the cash to blow on it. Believe me if I didnt have tons of bills and I had lots of money to spend I would do the same as you but some cant, and they get what they can with what they have, I feel thats just as much effort.

Oh and ya by the way I dont see how you can pick on a lip ring and you have stretched ears, its a form of body modification, Im not into trends, have you ever even seen any of my tattoo artwork on my body, I guess not.

Is there any difference between Collodion used on fake scars and Collodion used as medicine on warts? Is it same stuff?
