Joker Costume for Halloween

Jokerthug, i would suggest just printing out the sheets of regular paper with the cards on them then just gluing them to the faces and backs of playing cards, its the cheapest way to go, plus you cant hardly tell the difference if you cut them exact and glue them on good, plus who is going to nitpick something like that for a costume ;) The previous page i posted my scanned cards already sized up and ready to print and cut. But more power to ya if you can get a hold of what you were wanting. Also I am working on the grenade set up in the coat, ill post some pics tomorrow along with instructions/materials.

ok... as far as finding the right stuff for it ... you not going to at a store... sorry guys and gals... (exept for the boots socks and the jacket) the rest are special order matirials.

the jacket is a modified old army trench coat and all the rest is custom made by the costume department there IS no such clothing of its type and the matirials ARE a lighter color... it gets much darker post production... so your best bet is... knowing where youll be with it... indoors needs to be darker... but outdoors at night lighter... or else you will look like your wearing a black suit almost...

go to a nearby college for makeup assistance... im sure their are a fiew movie majiors who would love to help (for good practice)

... the dyeing for the jacket was easier than you might think already being green... remove the pockets ect easily modified... get the longest one you can find at an army surplus store then cut and sew... as for the dye... i gotta retain a fiew secrets... fray out the sleeves a little since you have the extr matirial

... the gloves are hand sewn... get the matirial and get a girlfriend to help guys..lol

the pant matirial is right on earlier posts...

... the vest isnt unbuttoned there its not there at all... well i think their were a fiew ones that werent missing the button but to be accurate its gone...

make the suit and ect. then take a towel and lightly dab it with a lightly bleached towel !!! caution!!! very lightly covered towel... put it in the wash and roll it in a trash can with sand small rocks and a little dirt wash it again then do the same with only a small ammount of fine dirt and a fiew rocks...
remember the joker has been wearing this suit w/o washing it for years...
keep it a little smelly for effect... if you want the full effect ...

... ooh and btw ... i can make the suit ... for other people but i charge...
i make costumes/scores for a director... "nameless" ... but if you got money i can make it and ship it out before haloween i will only charge $300... $175 for matirial and $100 labor and about 25 shipping... but... being able to do it to spec IS worth every penny
... as i have a full load for work... i can only feasibly do about 4 before haloween so if you would like one contact me ... [email protected] ... unless you would like to try yourself.. it is alsways a good expirience to try ... since i gave alot of secrets away...

ooh i frogot to add please shave the wool ... it looks horrible when its fuzzy and a super hot iron makes the seams better after sewing just dont "shine" it

he hasn't been wearing it for years...he bought the suit at the beginning of the movie with the stolen mob money :/ with his lines of work, it would only take days for the suit to get as messed up as it is if he's not washing it.

other then that, great post. it didnt even occur to me that the button was altogether missing, i thought it was just unbuttoned O_o

So quick update on my costume.

Here's what I've pulled together.

The corset- http://www.amazon.com/Victorian-Vintage-Shaper-Corset-Cincher/dp/B000XRO6W8

The green is very dark yes, but personally I like it. And if the costume nazis have a problem well they can just suck on my multiracial booty.

The shoes ordering today - http://www.spiegel.com/shop/product...&cm_ite=DATAFEED&ci_src=17588969&ci_sku=30698

The gloves- http://shop.vendio.com/theprimroselane/item/989476191/index.html

The pants that will be a skirt - http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...7.m32&_trkparms=tab=Watching#ebayphotohosting

What's left? Shirt :( Stockings, makeup (scars and clown makeup), and green for hair.

Looking good so far! I think rather than go for the hexagonal shirt right now, I'm going to go the cheaper route and get a shirt in the Joker "style." Once I get a new job that actually pulls in some money, I'll go for screen accuracy. It's looking like I'll be spending my entire college career trying to piece together this costume (although I already have the overcoat and vest). But I can't wait to see how your femme Joker comes out, it looks good so far.

Yeah, I noticed that too. this is the closest I could get. Its more of a hole in a strap that fits over a metal peg. For all I know thats what the real ones do, but I hav'nt seen any close ups.

whoa those are pretty nice joker gloves. one of the best Ive seen on here so far. probably because of the color and the straps they have.

I really like the parts of your costume so far!! :)

I saw a gorgeous purple pencil skirt in River Island today, you can see it by searching through the womens section here and selecting the skirts bit -

Has anyone else noticed the huge amount of purple stuff that's in all the shops just now?!! Coincidence??

Didn't "read" through every post and page of this thread, but I did look at all the pics in the entire thread and I must say firstly, my GOD for Jokers hahahah. I haven't seen people jump on a costume/cosplay franchise since Naruto and Bleach. At least in the anime world. And now I'm going to throw my 2 cents in here cuz of all the posts not many female's doing the joker and so I'd like to take some time and show the joker costume I'M doing. I'll do my best to explain each piece of the costume and the materials I used to help you fellow Jokers.

Joker Vest and Coat:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Purple-Coat-cos...ameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem#ebayphotohosting
This is ebay seller that I bought a custom made Joker vest and coat from matched specifically to my measurements. On the coat, its hard to tell but they DID get the uplifting flaps on the front of the jacket. Just hard to see.
http://cgi.ebay.com/Vest-Waistcoat-...4627681QQihZ004QQcategoryZ15691QQcmdZViewItem
Here's the vest. Despite the crazy pattern ideas of Joker's outfit, his coat and vest are rather easily designed. And since its easy to duplicate, I think they did a damn good job of duplicated Joker's vest and coat. I haven't received them in the mail yet, but from 4 years of cosplay, I usually have an eye of which ebay sellers to buy from when I can't make it myself. The colors are also nicely chosen and they even have the right colored lining.

Joker Tie:
http://www.zazzle.com/joker_tie-151736642003114176?gl=Dracomancer From what I saw throughout the thread of the Joker tie's on Zazzle, I came up with my own. I took a high resolution shot of Joker's tie from my silky wall scroll thingy and managed to put it together on Zazzle. Its a bit too jumbled together compared to his more "separated" pattern, but it'll do.

Joker Pants and Chain:

http://www.cosplay.com/photo/1664832/
I'm actually not happy with these because my first attempt at trying to stripe them didn't turn out so well and that's for like 20% of the pants (notice the right side of the pants). When I finally found some acrylic fabric pens with a fine tip I was able to finish them nicely. The pants were hand dyed to a darker purple, by me, with a Dylon fabric dye specifically for rayon and or polyester fabrics. The white stripes were done using a "Painters" fabric acrylic paint pen.

Joker Socks:
http://www.cosplay.com/photo/1674306/
It looks shabby because I had the flash on, trust me it doesn't look that bad. But I finished of the sides of the socks using fabric pens. I refuse to pay 65 bucks for a pair of joker socks on ebay when I can just do it myself. Also keeping in mind its not like you see his socks that often anyway.

Joker Hexagonal Shirt:

http://www.cosplay.com/photo/1674307/
Since there's no way in hell I'm paying bullcrap prices on ebay for the joker's hexagonal shirt, I found it a lot cheaper and EASIER (mainly since I can draw) to buy a light greyish blue shirt and a darker blue fabric pen and just draw on the patterns. It may "look" incomplete but with the vest covering it and the bottom of it tucked into the pants, without his jacket all you're really going to see is the arms, part of the neck, and part of the upper and under shoulder parts and that's about it. Took over 10 hours total to do this thing @_@

Joker Makeup:

http://www.cosplay.com/photo/1656550/
The makeup itself doesn't have to be a great quality because of the way he wears it in the movie, it looks worn and sweated out. It isn't put on nicely like most people do. His scars more often than not are done way too thick and or smeared out. Progress pics of Heath's scar pictures were posted earlier and as you could see from the picture his scars are as noticeable and big as many like to believe. I'll be using a product called Skin Tite for make his scars (not what I did in the pic at the time) and Thi-Vex that was recommended to thicken the Skin Tite solution. Once the stuff comes in the mail I'll give the makeup and scars a REAL try.

Joker Hair:
I can understand if people don't want to fiddle with a wig, but more often than not people have the hair either too short or too long. Wig came into and I'll be working on it tonight. Heath's joker hair is short and slightly curly and definitely weighed down by sweat and oil. And unlike some Joker posters, his entire head of hair isn't entirely green. Like his hair, its matted out and there, but at the same time not there. His hair is a brownish color with a bleach like type of green color. I'll post more pics when the costume becomes more complete.

Sorry if this was long and drawn out, but I figured it'd help give people ideas and this is my progress on the costume.

Since "screen accuracy" isn't my deal, I've decided to add some things to the costume for extra flair. For starters, I'm thinking a purple fedora (or similar hat) - serving to somewhat mask my appearance so I can make a big reveal. The general idea from now on is that if I see something that I think I can use...I'm going to.

And I did a lot of thinking about my makeup, and I have high hopes for the next test.

ok folks... this is my first trial run of my joker make up. i took some better quality photos, but unfortunately until i locate my mini usb cable, i'll have to stick to a webcam. so anyway, check out the photos and give me some feedback. this is the make up minus my prosthetics... and i didn't do my ears because i was lazy... and please be nice since this was my first attempt, but! i do want some feedback either way.

yea but can you wash them?

The fabric pen says its permanent after 24 hrs of drying time. Just check your local Joann fabrics store or something similar and read about the fabric pen products. Sharpies bleed, don't think I've ever had a problem with fabric pens bleeding. To be quite honest I haven't done any washing to see if they bleed, but definitely give it ample drying time.

Ohhhh btw I bought a big chunky purple purse to go with my outfit so I don't have to wear a backpack to the con. Will post pics.

The shirt. Argh, I'm just going to get a blue shirt for the con. If I ever get a way to do it screen accurate...I will. But I'm in college too...no time for this.

The more I see of it, the more I have faith in the wig. Of course, I won't really know until the Halloween stores open and I have one of my very own, but the wig looks like a great alternative to growing out your hair - which I would never do even if I could (which I can't because of school). One thing is that it looks too dry for my taste, so I'll probably lather my wig generously with grease. Again, that's my opinion without seeing it in person. Maybe once I've bought the wig, I'll think it's fine.

yeah ive seen that... i know that if i had the money i would have totally bought that...but im just gonna settle with a blue shirt with a pattern.....maybe even light lavender??

Here is my grenade setup for inside the jacket, and yes i know there are more than 6 grenades, im just not loading my jacket down. Anyway whoever thought of the lemon/lime bottles was genius. I used lime cause they were already green then spray painted them a darker green. I used the keychain hook and rings for the pins which i think works really well. Now to attatch the pins to the bottles i put a small enough hole in the cap on the bottles then inserterted the smaller side of the keychain fastner(not the ring)through and pulled it up so the bigger side held it snug in place and couldnt be pulled out, then i simply snapped the cap back on and daisy chained the yarn to my single bigger ring for my thumb.

sorry here are the grenades, i tried just inserting the html code for the pics instead

Well, autumn is coming. In autumn shops are full of purple clothes (plus purple and dark red are "fashioncolors" now), but now you maybe recognize it better? Dunno :woot:
