Joker Costume for Halloween

Not open for further replies.
I personally think weather and spanking new both look good. Just adds another dynamic to the costumes were all making. We don't all wanna look the same do we? Will try and weather mine abit, not sure how though (will probably wreck it lol).

Anyway, deathfromabove i'd go with the black vintage bowling shoe. Think it suits the look you've built up. Btw what make-up are you using?

thanks for the feedback and welcome...

like i said im still on the fence regarding the shoes. while the cap toes resemble the jokers shoe a bit more (and have the elongated toe as well) they are still just a classic dress shoe.

on the other hand while the bowling shoes arent quite as physically similar they are unique and different (like the jokers) and match the vibe im going for a bit better. in real life they have this great early twentieth century charlie chaplin/depression era clown mojo that doesnt really come across in pictures. the lack of a real heel and elongated toe does work against them a bit however.

hrrrrmmm...decisions decisions.

oh, and the makeup is just some crappy face paint sticks for the white that work great. the makeup stays put yet gets this perfect sheen after about an hour of wear. and when im done it comes right off and has skin moisturizes in it so it leaves my skin ultra sliky and smooth the next day:oldrazz:

any hobby or craft store should have something similar.

um im rather aware of when this thread was posted and how long most people have been working on their costumes. dates of posts and threads are shown. and as i said in my post, i originally came on here to give help to OTHERS. the reason doesn't have to be seeking for advice. i also wanted to see what other joker fans existed. and yeah...im well aware that critiques are going to be given. that's why i apologized for the reaction..but seriously drop it? and move on?

so ill just quote again on the things i did want advice on....

ah hahahahahaha a hoo haha aho aheh ah hee...

your condescending attitude renders your apology kinda meaningless especially after completely derailing this thread but whatev. clearly you have problems with criticism. im over it.

now. moving on...

^^ Thanks for the info dude.

Going to try and paint my black leather gloves today. Should be interesting.....

not sure what kind of paint you are trying but fyi they make paint for painting leather that works great. if you use acrylic or paint not suitable it might crack off and ruin your gloves. good luck and let us know how it goes.

O_o take it however you want. all im really curious about now is the idea of sand papering the shoes to wear them down, and the Manic Panic gothic makeup mentioned before. if you have advice on such, feel free to comment away on it. at this point im curious to see what others say.

OK, change of plan. Couldn't find the paint needed to do gloves. Could only find purple acrylic paint and was unsure. Will probably have to order some from America.

Now though i'm in the process of attempting to dye some brown 100% cotton pinstripe trousers. Going to wash first, then use Dylon Pre-dye, then Dylon Intense Voilet. Will post result later today. Fingers crossed!!

wo dude go back....100% cotton with Dylon dye? Dylon is only for Polyester and or Rayon materials. The Rit Dye is for cotton fabrics. might want to rethink that choice on the fabric dye. have no idea how a polyester dye will take to a cotton fabric.

as for the glove painting i found a how-to online for using acrylic paints on leather. http://www.ehow.com/how_15424_paint-leather.html have no idea how successful that is but i thought id toss it to you to see if it helps.

Jeez Dracomancer don't scare me!! LOL!! Thanks for the heads up dude but just checked the box and I quote:-

"Suitable: Cotton, linen & viscose. Polyester/cotton & polyester/viscose mixes will dye to a lighter shade.
Not Suitable: Wool, silk Synthetic fibres (e.g polyester, acrylic, nylon) & special finshes (e.g. waterproof)"

God knows how it's going to turn out!! As for the paint i've found a UK website that sells the paint that the dude used back on page 218. Have ordered some. Here's the link for all you UK jokers

http://www.artscraftsonline.co.uk/view_product.asp?id=1461&catid=4

Better than paying £40 on E-bay (if it works, lol).

Thanks for the help Dracomancer.

IS ANYONE WORRIED...

that we might not recieve our Hexagon shirts from the ebayer and utopiabase.com?

i ordered mine on saturday, and given that it is supposed to be shipped in two days..... i havent recieved anything about a tracking number yet... i emailed them on monday, and they said i would have the tracking number on tuesday.... that day came... no tracking number... then i emailed them yesterday asking if i would be recieving the number any time soon... and no reply as of yet....

I sure HOPE that this isnt a scam :(

^^ Dude it looks like the same people I got mine off. I bought mine on E-bay though. Took a while but came the other day. Was really impressed with it. Not screen perfect but 100 times better than I could produce!!

hey, blonde_santa: any idea when you will be able to do a walkthrough for how to make your scar prosthetics? cos that first scar you posted looks awesome!

Im anxious to learn lol

:)

Ok well I suppose i could make the walkthrough before my other one is done. I'm going away this weekend but on monday afterschool I'll take some photos n shud have it up before tuesday... its pretty simple really

OrlandoSpidey said they are going for $250 now. I could deal with $150 but for a hundred dollars more, I'll pass for the time being. Still dont see why the company charged $150 to the film production and we're stuck with the $250 price tag. I guess the film company got a group discount.

Well, no offense to OrlandoSpidey, but I don't believe him.
A bunch of people on another board I visit purchased the remaining ties from the original run for $150.
I heard nothing about a price when I got on the list at T&A, so until I do, and I hear different, I'm going to assume that it's $150 since that's what the last twenty or so people paid, including the film production.

A question about Liquid latex for the scars...
Does it matter what kind of liquid latex you get? because like the 'skin colored' liquid latex, would be creat to kick off the 'merging' into the face thing, but will it work as good as regular liquid latex? also some just say theyr good for moulding, and others say theyr good for moulding and prosthetics etc....

I've used the skin color latex for both moulding prosthetics, blending, and building a makeshift scar straight to the face. All of which went without a hitch. I honestly have never encountered any problem with it, and it is very handy having it skin tone making it that bit easier to blend. Although with the red and white makeup prob wouldnt matter if its skin tone or not when it comes to joker scars.
Dunno if it was intended for moulding into prosthetics because when you cast it, it comes out more matte finish than normal... which I personally think is better, looks more like real skin.
But if you are only intending on doing joker scars then it really wont matter, whatever is cheapest. Turns out skin color at my makeup store is cheapest, so thats what I use mostly.
Um hope that answers your question.
Now if only someone would answer mine :(

For those asking about the Manic Panic Goth White make up, i think it works great like i said cause you can put it on like a cream based but it wont smear or rub off as easily throughout the day/night.

Also as for Weathering the overcoat, how bout sprinkle some baby powder on it here and there then wiping it to give the effect of where some of the white make up as been rubbed off onto. Also Baby powder is great if you are using regular cream make up, apply your white base then have a friend put a SMALL amount of baby powder in their hand and then blow it onto your face, this helps the make up not look as greasy and will prevent it from going anywhere or running etc etc. Im definately going to weather my overcoat so ill post my techniques for you guys, shame to dirty and mess up a new jacket but its not like im going to where a purple coat the other days of the year besides halloween so no biggie.

Also those looking for some of the overseas sellers selling the all in one outfits(jacket, blazer, shirt, vest, pants, tie) the one im expecting anyday now, then do an ebay keyword search for "joker cosplay" and not joker costume, joker jacket, joker pants etc

DFA it is great to see you back and posting more, and I kinda like the bowling style shoes you have. I will be putting up a tutorial for my shoes if your interested. Heres what they look like if anyone has forgotten, but how could you.

attention clowns! just so no one takes this little nugget and runs with it. dylon is not suitable for polyester. in fact 9 times out of ten 100% polyester (as well as most pure synthetics) will not take a dye at all. synthetic blends may dye but it might take more than one go to get any kind of desired result. my pants are a poly/cotton blend and they had to go into a dye bath four times. and as has been mentioned dylon will work on cotton. in fact i would reccomend it over rit as its just a better product and does not require boiling. just a heads up. dont want any misinformation out there ruining any coats or wasting anyone's time:o:whatever:

p.s. how about we get our facts straight before helping our fellow clowns people?:csad:

sincerely

Thanks man... and earlier you stated about getting a jacket from somewhere... do you mean the blazer or the long coat?

Cheers again :)

Pretty disturbing that this thread has regressed from all of us helping each other better our costumes to an argument breaking out when someone suggests something as innocent as ****ing weathering of all things. You're clearly here for advice, so check the ego at the door, accept the criticism or gtfo.

Thank You!!!!

iv also just recieved an email from utopiabase.com (where i bought the hexagon shirt from, who are the same people as the ebay sellers) about the delivery of my item, and they said:

'hi i am sorry to inform you that your package was held up at the exchange station in hongkong during the recent tropical storm, i was inform that the earliest the service could resume to normal will be around the 10th sept (there are massive back-logs), that means that you will be getting this item within 8-16 days from the 10th sept 2008.
let me know if this is acceptable to you , else i can get you a refund and you can purchase the items again at a later date ( when normal service resumes)

simon'

Bit of a bummer :csad:

Here are some GREAT gloves for those wanting to try and dye them, but I mean most of you are going to be indoors or at night so dark purple and black will be hard to tell the difference, this is just for those not going 100% SA and who isnt a millionaire

Here's a site I found for leather dyes and paints, I ordered 2 (1 purple 1 blue) colors of the tarrago leather paint and they worked well.....
