wow thanks for lining it up like that. It put it into perspective, even for me!
Those are the old version scars and using really crappy white creme facepaint from the tube for instant gratification. As a result it doesnt sit on the facial lines as well. I've notice that the best bet is to get a LEGITIMATE clown white from a company like mehron, or ben nye. Both are fantastic and are light enough to just hit the tops of facial wrinkles and give the right effect.

I use mehron for face paint and it works great. it does work well for the worn look. the red turns a little pink but i think if you just put a little black in it, it might work better.

Long time lurker here on the forum. A lot of you ladies and gentlemen have some amazing Joker costumes, and I finally figured out how to add a post to this site (I am, occasionally, quite slow). I had a blast doing a Joker costume this year, and I got tons of tips and inspiration from this site (thanks to everyone for that, by the way). It's been years since I went all-out on a costume, and I didn't realize how much I missed doing it. I'm trying to convince the guys in my sketch troupe to go as the Ghostbusters next year...

I wasn't gonna do the Joker this year (figured there'd be too many) but my delightful girlfriend Alice found a purple ladies trench coat while we were at a Value Village (a Canadian store, kind of "Salvation Army meets Wal-Mart"). We found the pants to go with it, and kind of managed to scam the store into giving us the whole combo for $10. I assumed it was a sign from God, and everything else kind of fell into place after that (though I never found a great vest - I dyed the one I'm wearing in the pictures, but it's still mostly grey. And it shrank. Grr.) My favourite part are the gloves, which I got for $8 from a street vendor in Chinatown.

The make-up was my first venture into doing anything this detailed. I got the instructions from a video on Youtube - used collodion and fake skin. My hair wasn't quite long enough (and it's usually super straight) so it took a long time to get it even halfway right (and even longer to wash out. Which was not fun at the end of the night, when I was exhausted and drunk). But it was all quite worth it.

I know I'm rambling, but I figure if anyone's gonna understand, it's the folks on this forum. So here's some of my (belated) Halloween pictures:

3094429569_0eb26c464e.jpg

- Here I am up close. I think this is the end of the night on Tuesday, after my girlfriend and I attended a Halloween comedy show where no one else was dressed up. Grumble...

3095271470_2406b396d8_o.jpg

- Here's one of the better pictures of my costume, actually from Halloween night. The jacket was a really dark purple, so most pictures I have make it look almost black. Oh, and contrary to the look on my face, I'm having a blast.

3095271208_f45a56dbd2.jpg

- Here I am next to some guy, who was delighted that I correctly identified him as Elijah Snow from "Planetary".

3094430855_7df351675a.jpg

- The pencil alone was enough to impress most of my friends.

3094431443_a1250d0949.jpg

- This is a random girl I encountered at my local comic shop's Halloween party, who had (I thought) a pretty sweet Harley Quinn costume. Apparently after my girlfriend and I left for another party, I actually won a prize for best Joker costume (there wasn't much competition). I assume my gift certificate was donated to an orphanage, or something.

Alot of details on the costume aren't exact, and those details gnaw at my soul (the shoes are black, and my pants aren't pinstripe, and the shirt is a basic purple one, and uh, I really only spent about $50 on the whole enterprise). But I was pretty happy with how it all shook out. And I got compliments all night - the general consensus was that I was the best new Joker people had seen (though that might have been the booze talking...)

Feel free to let me know what you think! Can't wait for the DVD this week!

way to blow things outta proportion jodo:oldrazz:

Its what safty pins were originaly meant for!:woot:

Oh! And also, evryone check the screencaps thread, The Joker's nurse name tag officialy has NURSE HEMMING on it at least at one point in time. We finaly have screencaps to verify it, so that meens I'll be ordering mine soon! :woot:

EDIT - Also, got up at like 7:00, and went to Wal*Mart to get me SE DVD. They had sold about 10 of the coin and comic sets, and about 10 other DVD's overall. I thought about dressing up, but I didn't want to spend two hours getting ready to go out and get thrown out of the place. I called there this morning before I left to see if the manager was there, after I got the manager on the line, I had thought about talking to him like a certain *crazy person*, but it turns out Wal-Mart dosen't answer the frakkin' phone. :whatever: I know you can't trust them at all, but I figured they'd at least answer. :oldrazz:

Sweet, Jodo! Hehe I'd have loved to have heard it if you had got hold of that manager while in character!

I was thinking of dressing up to get my copy but there has been like.. NO hype or ceremony about the DVD release over here. I haven't seen it on the shelves at all except when I bought it. Lucky the seamstress still has my vest and coat or I'd have probably done it anyway and been thrown out.

I brought those lining pictures over to her this evening and now that she's seen how the real coat looks she says she wants to see if she can put the right number of vents in the back and everything! She's almost as excited about this project as I am and that gives me a real good feeling about the whole thing.

My original pair of pants is sitting in a new mix of blue and violet dye right now, though my protective gloves leaked and now I have bluey-purple hands! *waggles fingers*
Might not need to wear those purple gloves anymore!

Oh and I bumped into some of the guys I hung out with over Halloween and they didn't recognise me AT ALL without the gear on. XD

Wall-eyed much? Your eyes are seriously pointing in two different directions in both the pictures you posted.

how observant of you
i actually have a condition called lazy eye, where one eye is weaker than the other, which explaines why one eye is pointing in another direction

can be annoying at times when the eye turns out as it is really noticable
but it gives my joker more of a crazy look i guess

The first thought I had was to say in a regular voice "Hello, this is a call from Arkham Asylum, you will not be charged for this call, please hold for one moment."

And then move the phone around a bit for some noise and say "Good morning Manager." in the Joker voice. ("Good evening Commisioner.", get it?) "My name is-ah, its Joe.....Kerr.":hoboj:

Dang, I wish I knew a seamstress that would line my blazer, and be excited about it at the same time, LOL. Mine's currently got a black lining, but I bought enough of the orange to either line the entire blazer, or what shows of my Hot Topic coat. I'll buy a new coat thats already lined, so I've preety much got to get the blazer lined now, LOL.

Thats preety awsome about mabey having all the vents as well. Will you be doing 4 then? or 3?

EDIT - Also, as far as lazy eyes go, I also have a weaker eye, which in some pictures can be preety evident. But its actualy a fairly common occurence for many people. Frak, even Heath Ledger had one going.

For me, I'm hoping by mabey getting glasses here soon it will correct itself. I tired getting glasses here about 3 years ago, and the doctor told me it was using the computer to much. I do honestly use the computer quite a bit, mabey 2to3 hours a day, but he wouldn't be convinced that I needed them otherwise. Well, when the computer was out for about 2 months here a while back, I was only on it for mabey 30 mins or so a day. And it never got any better. I ended up trying my mum's glasses on, and taa-daa, I could see evrything better than I ever could, and the stigmatism was preety much gone. So when I go this next time, I'm going to tell him to give me glasses, or I'll show him a magic trick. :cmad: It preety much makes me mad that I could of had great vision for the past 3 years if he would of just gave me the frakkin' glasses then. :whatever:

She thinks that it looks like 3, and that'll be easier for her to do and more likely not hamper the project too much, there's less than a month to go now. (let the gibbering panic commence)
My blazer has a sort of blueish-green lining to it, but if I'm going to be hob-nobbing it in boiling hot clubs and bars all evening at the party, I may have to sacrifice style and accuracy for a bit of light comfort and leave the it at home altogether. Or maybe rip the sleeves off of it.
I admire your commitment to accuracy Jodo.

Blimey! You're right! I had seen pictures where his eyes look a little odd but it makes sense now. Thats interesting.
I'll have to work on my creepy staring.

p.s. Purple dye still not coming off hands. XD
I accidentally got some dye in a shaky first attempt at self-done scarification I made the other day on my thumb, and I'm curious to see if it'll heal with the colour still in it. Prison tattoos ftw?

It'll deffinly be easier to do the 3 vents, I still like to think its 3 vents anyway. LOL. Untill I see two people holding a vent in each one of their hands, ya know? :p ;)

Ya, my mum brought it up, when I was trying her glasses on...I told her I preety much knew, and didn't deny at all the fact that my eyes hurt sometimes, and I know the one does tend to be weaker. She said something about getting glasses then, which was right around Halloween. I told her I had to wait a little while, because I wanted to be as screen accurate as possible. LOL. :p ;) I'm realy hoping it will correct itself though.....

I think I may order my nurses stuff tomorro....If I can remember, LOL. (Hope I don't look to fat in it either...)

dang it. i just got home from nyc. i totally forgot the dvd came out today.

guess i know what im doing tomorow. :)

hey Keli... the new pic looks awesome.

wow kelikala! fantastic picture!!

Awsome Keli! :D

hey Keli... the new pic looks awesome.

Thanks for the comments on my picture guys! I would have responded sooner, but I've been a bit under the weather for the past few days. Gotta love the colds that come with Ohio's crappy winter.

Anywho, I found out that a Best Buy in my area was doing a midnight release, but I didn't get to go... but... a friend of mine who works for Best Buy managed to acquire one of the miniature Joker statues that came with the DVD purchase, so for that I am really happy. I got my copy of the DVD yesterday, along with the Movie Masters Bat-Pod ( which is awesome as all get go ) and even though I would have loved to go out in make-up yesterday, I only put on my coat to save from scaring the whits out of the Holiday shoppers.

Oh, and while I'm on the subjust of Holidays... I took some 'special' Joker photos that ended up being turned into my Christmas cards. I thought some of you guys might get a kick out of them. Pics under the spoiler for those who are curious...

The second one is on the card itself. It says Happy Holidays, but the Holi is scratched out and it says Slaughter instead :cwink:

I guess alot of Best Buys were preety bad at handling the midnight release, so mabey it was better than chaos wasen't spread any further. :oldrazz::cwink:

Christmas cards...LMAO....Here yesterday I thought about family christmas cards, and relised the only pic. we have this year, all four of us, is the one where I'm in Joker make-up, and they're in henchmen attire and masks, LOL!

Hey RSL44,

I'm sorry for not replying to you a while back. I haven't posted a more in-depth cross-section of my makeup application because i'm so busy at the moment. Perhaps you could study what i wrote earlier on and try and make a little sense of it for yourself. If there is anything you do struggle with, PM me and i'll get back to you as fast as possible.

Cheers

:hoboj:

Keli, it seems your creativity never ceases. :)

but I would have made it say "Happy HA-HA-Holidays"

I love your Christmas Joker, Keli! XD
Did you get any looks for wearing the coat? Surely people would recognise it if they're getting the film.

Jodo, maybe you should try contact lenses if you're not too hot on the thought of glasses ruining your costume. I got them for mine and they're really not bad once you get over the "there is something in my EYE" freakout.

Hell I'm looking forward to seeing what your nurse costume is like, too.

I got a few looks. Apparently I was recognizable as 'The Joker' from the back because a few people who were walking behind me made comments to the fact, but I didn't look the part from the front at all... well, unless Joker wears Aeropostale sweaters and jeans along with big hoop earrings... LOL

It was nice just donning the coat for another day though. Good feeling. However, you can be certain that I'll be dressing in costume a ton come the end of January!
