The Dark Knight Joker Scars: Accidental; self inflicted?

my two cents on the scarring...

To me it looks like a small caliber bullet wound. As if he was shot through his right cheek and the bullet blew out the left cheek. Leaving a small entrance wound on his right and a nearly blown out exit wound on the left. Here comes my stretch of the imagination...

I can see this Joker looking in the mirror at the wound, seeing that it resembles a painted on clown's smile a bit on the left cheek... and finishing the illusion by carving or slicing the right side of his face up to the entry wound, then slicing a bit out of the corner of the left side of his mouth to complete the look.

That's the impression I got when I saw the first official Joker pic anyway. And to me it fits because it's a very slight homage to the Burton Joker origin, but adds a pretty big dash of the anarchy that is the new Joker.

I don't know either how they would fit it into the flow but it woudl be cool if they managed and showed just that little bit of super creepy backstory. Kind of makes me think of the Nazi from Pans Labyrinth who sewed up his sliced open cheek... you remember that? *shiver* Man that was sick and a completely amazing bad guy moment at the same time.

Haven't seen Pan's Labyrinth, but my sister has, and she says that scene is quite disturbing.

Anyone else really wish the Joker's scars had been more like that? An actual slice, rather than the bubbly, welt-looking smile we have? I mean, the oral herpes looks good and all, but I think that would have looked much better.

I thought this was settled, someone that worked on the film said he would be sliced by a razor blade, and he would just wake up from this..he's even wearing his green and purple when he does.

Could there be any chance that Joker's scars will be enhanced by CG in post?

It almost looks like somebody dropped acid on his cheeks. The flesh is bubbly.

I think it could be bubbly because it was infected and healed badly.

His scars aren't to unrealistic

Actor Tommy Flanagan from Smokin Aces, Sin City, AVP, Face/Off, Gladiator, ect

has Joker style scars. Two facial scars, one on each side of his face, known as a 'Glasgow Grin' or a 'Glaswegian Smile'. Result of being attacked by thugs in Scotland.

From IMDB
He was born July 3, 1965 in Glasgow Scotland, One night, as he left a pub he was working at, people told him to give them his coat and records and when he refused, a guy jumped on his back, stabbed him, and scarred his face. He nearly died. When he saw his face after his intensive recovery, he cried thinking that he could not return to his old life again. His close friends Robert Carlyle and his wife Caroline suggested acting for him. He said it wasn't for him but then on a second thought, he decided to give it a go. He worked in the Rain Dog theatre for 3 years before Mel Gibson gave him his first big break in Braveheart (1995). Gibson, seeing what a wonderful actor he was, gave him a even bigger role.

this is probably going to freak out some of the 'perma-white' enthusiasts, but seeing one of the latest pics - anyone get the feeling that at one point in time (even if only for a brief moment), they considered having a joker without make-up? instead, relying entirely on the facial scars to portray the deformation that makes him 'the joker'?

i guess it comes down to the fact that heath really pulled it off, but the picture of him as a cop (sans makeup) is the most chilling pic i've seen of the joker so far...

Judging from one of the recently leaked lot of pics...(This pic shows the scar on one side VERY clearly)

And I would imagine that such a scar could be a result of Mr.J taking a bullet through the cheeks.

explains the gap between the lip part and the scar itself.

my two cents.

just saw the new leaked photos, and i can tell that the scaring is not self inflicted for sure

definitely looks like it

i think the left side wasnt done by him,but the other side is too curved and perfect to be accidental. i think maybe he had an accident, and then when he finally lost his mind, he evened out the others side

The pic of joker as the cop doesn't look like his real skin. I'm thinking he is putting on flesh makeup

Well i only say that b/c a scar like that would probably not look so blended in with the skin, and also i just wouldn't see nolan showing joker int he movie with NO makeup on at all. I know he is making him a guy who paints his face but i think he also understands the mystery of it by keeping it on even in different layers
